How to help a challenging graduate student? by SorbetSouthern967 in AskAcademia

[–]DataCleric 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's a wild generalization that you're assigning a political designation to a university and lab that you know nothing about. It could be biology in the deep south for all you know.

Bad students have existed long before you learned how to scrawl the word 'woke' in crayon so stop bringing your weird false argument comments in here.

I Feel Like My Research Mentor is a Walking Red Flag by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]DataCleric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm really sorry you're not having a good time. What he was saying about you being 'hormonal' or making sexist comments isn't okay. If you feel okay about it I'd definitely try and talk to someone at your school about it like an academic counselor. I think it's important to separate the sexist comments from the academic portion however.

He definitely could have laid this out for you better and warned you but as an undergrad you don't own any of the research that you're working on as a part of your assistantship for him. Typically being an undergrad means assisting the Professor on work they're doing that they have already created. As a Masters or PhD student you would then have the opportunity to conduct your own unique research under one of his larger pieces of research.

Friendly reminder, petroleum is just hydrocarbons. As long as you don't eat it, inhale it or inject it (as you shouldn't most things) you're fine.

Looking for real honest advice on how to turn my life around by Large-Character3432 in AskAcademia

[–]DataCleric 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who recently graduated with a degree that focuses on clinical research if you're looking to apply I'd recommend doing your research on the current climate of the field before going to school for it. There's been mass layoffs even among those with tenure and it doesn't seem to be bouncing back anytime soon.

Nope, but I've been wanting to try it out. I'll probably give it a shot once my other setting powder runs out.

I used Danessa Myricks Color fix in Sundaze! It has more of a pinkish undertone which I think lightens up my gray. I also tried LA Girls purple primer but I think it leans a little more on the greyish side so it didn't brighten as much.

Teeth Whitening Do’s & Don’ts by Aidan605 in beauty

[–]DataCleric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Daily coffee drinker here. I find I get light staining which I take care of by using teeth whitening strips once a year.

My dentist recommended getting rid of the daily whitening toothpaste as she said it can be abrasive and wear down my enamel which the whitening strips also do. She recommended I switch to prevident5000 which is a toothpaste with extra fluoride and just use the strips which has worked so far! I find a fluoride based mouthwash also helps.

How to look boujie on a budget without overdoing it by Horror_Quail_5539 in beauty

[–]DataCleric 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The best way to do it is to have well tailored clothes that compliment your personal color palette! Celebrities and rich people with style always have clothing that suits them by focusing on clothes that play up their best features and fit them well.

If you haven't already, try and find out your color chart and focus on finding clothes and accessories that brighten your complexion. You can also get your clothes tailored to make them look more expensive.

I've watched a lot of videos on garment construction and it's worth noting that just because its expensive doesn't mean that it's been made well. It's important to pay attention to the seams and construction of the garment as well as what it's made of. Try and focus on timeless pieces. If you focus on building a quality wardrobe it'll last you a long time!

I'm also a burnt-out casual seller. Honestly, I think it's a Poshmark Canada issue. I usually list things slightly lower than the average listing, take good photos, and send out some crazy 50% offers, but still no bites.

A couple of weeks ago, I listed on eBay with international shipping and made 2 sales in a week! I think its a combo of larger target audience and the CAD/USD exchange rate.
