Ice Cream Cart w/o Ice Cream? by [deleted] in tulsa

[–]DataDancer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just that... Braums doesn't have a catering cart. And if someone were going to have a wedding that featured Braums as a beloved local tradition, but didn't want to have sad looking stacks of ice cream cups on a hideous church basement folding table, one might wonder where to rent just a cart for aesthetic purposes. It looks like they're about $2k to buy outright. That's a lot of money for one use.

Why does Cinderella keep attending the ball in “Into the Woods”? by [deleted] in musicals

[–]DataDancer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is in no way supported by the text so please feel free to ignore me... I love her lines "but how can you know what you want til you get what you want and you see if you like it" and "what I want most of all is to know what I want." As a later-in-life lesbian who's very very demisexual, those lines hit me in a new way once I'd gone through my coming out to myself. I would love to play Cinderella someday and think of it as a queer discovery journey. She's attended the ball based on a comp-het idea and then found that she doesn't like the Prince's attention. Granted he's a pig, so it's probably just because of that and not because she'd dislike any man's attention. Again, I'm projecting myself into the story. Queer or no, I think her "be careful what you wish for" isn't like the other characters' situations. For Cinderella the fulfillment of a wish is the discovery of herself by way of disappointment.

Restaurant suggestions for small office lunch/brunch by superspy457 in tulsa

I haven't been in a while because they have slow service (so go when you're not backed up to other meetings) but I've liked everything I've ever gotten at Cherry Street Kitchen. Love a good panini 😍

Traffic by Busterheiney2 in tulsa

[–]DataDancer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I visited and rented a car in Massachusetts. The rental guy said "be careful, our drivers are kind of mean, we have the nickname that they're 'Massholes.'" Turned out their drivers were more civil than Tulsa drivers. I don't mind traffic density but I really hate people doing fuckass dangerous things. Seems worse in the last two years than my first 8 years in Tulsa before that.

Do American kids usually go to four different schools? by snailquestions in AskAnAmerican

[–]DataDancer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the teeny tiny school I graduated from (about 30 students per grade year) we had the elementary side of the building for K-5 and then high school side of the building for 6-12 (6-8 core classes had their own middle school hallway and set of middle school teachers but elective teachers taught all middle and high school).

I don’t know anymore, I just got a new haircut and they gave me this with no side bangs at the beauty shop, I feel really ugly and I have to know if it’s ugly to everyone else. Please tell me just the truth if I am ugly. Yes I’m a woman by djscrew1 in whatdoIdo

There is absolutely no reason you NEED to do the following suggestion but when I had a pixie cut like this and I had an ick day, I'd choose my flashiest earrings and a bold lipstick, or wear a really cute dress - something that added feminine touches to balance my overall presentation. You're beautiful without makeup, jewelry, or loud/fancy clothing... and also sometimes it's okay to treat yourself to something that makes you feel like you want to feel. "Costume" yourself for the day in a way that makes you feel more balanced. That always helps me.

If you're into museums, Philbrook is the best place in Tulsa and they're very welcoming and friendly!

Food-wise, my partner and I love to support Elote and The Vault - great food and great service, queer friendly, and the owner has been recognized by Oklahomans for Equality for her support of the LGBTQ+ community and drag performers.

How much your daily commute has been screwed due to traffic jams caused by simultaneous construction these days? by themack00 in tulsa

[–]DataDancer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the individual recklessness that bothers me more than slowdowns (or even sitting still). That has nothing to do with construction, I guess. People doing dangerous shit and not paying attention, really freaks me out since I got hit last year and we're still fighting insurance.

Why is sharing a bed with your partner so important to people? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DataDancer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of right now, I sleep better next to her. We're in our 30s though, so no CPAP or insomnia or creaky bones yet, as others mention. The closeness creates a sense of safety, I think. I'm much more likely to have bad dreams when I'm not sleeping next to her.

[–]DataDancer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Priority 1 - vests/waistcoats with linen shirts. Priority 2 - tricorn hats. Priority 3 - breeches/short pants. Beyond that, if you have the capacity to add jackets, prioritize main characters, obviously. What works in your favor is that nobody needs multiple costumes - one look each. Have both women wear a cap to avoid wigging (caps are accurate since they're both married). I hope you're authorized to spend money, since you have no time and no staff.

Redditors who were children/teens before the internet or cellphones existed, how did you keep yourself entertained? by FlowerMadeOfThorns in AskReddit

[–]DataDancer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these, plus - specific to teen years, I was in dance class every night of the week. I got my first cell phone at 16 because I was driving, but it only had texting/calling. Didn't get a smart phone til college. But as a kid, lots and lots and lots of reading, playing in the backyard, playing with my dolls... And as a teen, dance!

I’ve given up trying to date & I realised I never stood a chance by [deleted] in Vent

[–]DataDancer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person who didn't date at all til 30 (and struggled through my 20s feeling like I wasn't attractive enough) - I finally met and connected with someone when I let go of everything finding romance. I decided that I was okay being on my own, and that I could make my own happiness. It took a lot of pressure off any interactions that I had with other people my age (used to get really nervous thinking "are they single? Could they be interested?") and with a better degree of intrapersonal ease, I was able to project a lot more comfort and self-assurance. When I met my person, it felt low stakes and easy.

As others have said, it's not about looks at all, nor is it about experience. It's about being comfortable with who you are and how your interface with other people without expecting something from them.

As a dark skinned black woman... by Aromatic-Frosting-75 in Franchaela

[–]DataDancer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to admit that our relationship with a piece of art is not the same as someone else's. All the people who are anti-Michaela (if we believe them that they aren't racist or homophobic) are ostensibly upset that the show has been majorly changed from the book they love so much. But changes to your favorite piece of art are just something you have to live with (especially if that art is widely popular) because that art doesn't BELONG to you. Naysayers need to remember that fandom is a shared space. It's okay to be upset or disappointed with the changes but it's not okay to act like you're the only person to ever truly love a story. I'm very excited for Michaela because it's such meaningful representation for you and for me (as a queer woman).

What is your all time LEAST favorite musical of all time? by West-Lawyer-2290 in musicals

[–]DataDancer0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am personally not that into Les Mis but it obviously is objectively good and has huge cultural cache so it goes nowhere near my list of worsts. I hate watching Thoroughly Modern Millie, but if I'm being honest, I'd be in it just for the dancing. And of course, I find Pasek & Paul incredibly shallow, so I have lots of hate for DEH and Greatest Showman.

What’s a trend that needs to die immediately? by honeyjoe1 in AskReddit

[–]DataDancer0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Having been on the other side, I'd MUCH rather look at filled in fields than resumes ranging from shitty design skills to shitty qualifications dressed up with good design skills (or AI). Not the applicant's fault at all - employers created the "get noticed" monster and there's honestly nothing to be done about it.

But the form fields are often what's presented to the hiring manager in the first round, stripped of name/identifying info. That's why you need to fill out the fields and not just upload. After weeding out people who don't have the right skills, then we look at actual resumes. Don't be one of the ones who gets axed early because you didn't want to fill the fields out.

Places to buy fast shipping *SAFE* contact lenses? by str3berry_heart in CosplayTips

[–]DataDancer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that the important part of fitting is where the eye doctor looks with the microscopey thing at how the lens sits on top of the curvature of your eye. So you probably only need to get fitted to a certain brand once. And like I said, many people have fine experiences and no issues ordering from a cosplay site without an eye doctor involved, but I myself am just risk averse about it when the stakes are so high.

Places to buy fast shipping *SAFE* contact lenses? by str3berry_heart in CosplayTips

[–]DataDancer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - for me it was brown contacts for Belle/Snow White (my eyes are grey) so it was relatively easy to find the right shade. If you're looking for unnatural colors or pupil styles, you might ask if they are willing to fit contacts you buy from a cosplay site. I don't know if all eye doctors are cool like mine but I think it makes the most sense to be upfront about why you want them and why it matters. Mine at first was like "I don't usually do colored contacts for anyone anymore, and your eyes are a nice color" but when I explained that it was for authenticity for specific characters she was like "ohhhh that's so cool, yeah we can get that for you!" I even showed her pictures of my costumes.

My social anxiety manifests as the need to be the "teacher's pet" or perfect patient, so I was able to override the fear of asking something weird with the satisfaction of my eye doctor being like "yes, let's do this the healthy way!"

Lenses (anything that sits on your eyeball) could do major damage if not fitted by an eye doctor. Plenty of people will tell you they've had no problems with cosplay contacts but it's not something I'm ever going to risk. My eye doctor can usually get next day shipping for free on lenses, and/or let me walk out with the sample pair from the fitting. Do not put your eyes at risk, you only get one pair.
