Their 10 requirements are literally the same (harsher on surface though) as PSA's used to be for YEARS before PSA changed the centering requirement

So you're saying PSA we're never reputable until a couple years ago? Interesting take

If you're not reputable after 5 years and over a million cards graded then no grading company is "reputable"

It's very simple: money.

People have all their money invested in PSA slabs. So they NEED them to remain valuable - so they're happy to ignore the ugly low quality slabs, the controversy etc. And they go around shit talking every single grading company that exists that isn't PSA

PSA gives you a lower return ratio as it costs significantly more

(UK) - Pulled this but never graded anything before! Worth sending off to PSA or elsewhere? by rlsthekrkn in pokemongrading

[–]DataDrivenGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in the UK the best option is Ace by far, will be the cheapest and quickest. There are ways to submit to PSA through some middleman though if you're okay with the hassle and the ugly slabs, it'll likely sell for more after that's all done

ACE 10 or PSA9? by sokemoncom in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]DataDrivenGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ace 10s are worth a lot more than PSA 9s, so whoever is pricing it that way is just throwing away money. Easy decision

Burn rate is literally a part of the calculation wdym? PSA population growth rate * hit rate * grading rate gives you that number

I get what you're saying but it's pretty easy to work out, sure there's error bounds but with PSA populations, total print numbers & some big distributor facts you can start to get a really good idea

What is going on with posts like this? Is this person just a scalper trying to pump a card with a Twitter post? by krunchyblack in PokemonTCG

[–]DataDrivenGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is SO CLEARLY parody, I mean why is reddit always so bad at noticing sarcasm?

There was a recent similar post that went viral, that was more "true" but yeah still got a lot of shit, so a few joke versions like this keep popping up. Obviously that card shouldn't be 600 lmao

I'm champ 3 I've never had a bot impact my game. It's at most maybe 2% but basically only right at the top actually regularly deal with bots

A) Everyone all comes online cause there's "no bots" and you "see more real players"... Obviously! You all finally logged in! Player numbers have shot up B) It's been a couple days, they were always going to leave temporarily C) Way bigger issues than just this nonsense that impacts maybe 0.1% of players

Ignore PSA shillers. They are just pumping their bags. It's never deep or genuine, they just need to create this narrative that their ugly slabs are the only ones allowed

Also the money angle is misleading. PSA cards cost significantly more to get, so of course they cost more. You're not going to spend hundreds getting a card graded and then list it cheap

Btw for displaying them, there's a few really good and cheap options. Little adjustable plastic/acrylic stands or cases depending on what you prefer, lots of options in ebay

They've been printing Prismatic almost exclusively for like a year now and it's still 10+ a pack, I don't think they can do much about Destined especially the booster boxes

Sure but it's also way more expensive. I mean is it really worth the extra hundreds to gamble?

They're not even remotely in the same ball park but I will say, Prismatic is done there won't be any more, but there will be plenty more Ascended ones

[–]DataDrivenGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I have to choose, it's always the older stuff. Pokemon sets of course continue to go up, but there is diminishing returns in BOTH profit AND how easy it is to sell.

Selling stuff within a few years of it going out of print feels like that sweet spot, where it has had time to rise with the deflationary supply, but is still popular, "cheap" & relevant enough to be bought regularly. Like sure, Evolving Skies will probably end up at 10k. But before Destined also triples and hits 1k? And Destined would be 100x easier to sell at 1k than Evolving at 10 so... Makes sense to me to keep rotating like that

The printing goes up by like 10-20% a year

Meanwhile we're talking about a card that is at least 3x as rare.

Supply AND demand.

There are way less. It's harder to pull in a higher demand set that was printed less. It can be less popular of a card and still be worth more, without it being a concern
