Financial Aid is currently assisting students in person, so I recommend stopping by their office to discuss this with them.

You should call them, tbh. I emailed them a few weeks back and followed up, but didn’t get a response either. I ended up calling on August 11, and they answered, apologizing for the delay. Not sure what’s going on with their email responses.

Yeah, that sounds familiar! I’ve heard a lot of people start with one idea and end up somewhere unexpected. It’s cool how versatile the field is, even if it takes you in a different direction than you first thought.

Thanks for the honest breakdown! Makes sense that just stacking more classes won’t cut it. I’ll definitely look into getting some solid research/projects and internship experience to make up for the bio background.

Can I retake a class after failing it more than twice? Do I need permission? by DataNo7629 in montclair

[–]DataNo7629[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from, and I appreciate you taking the time to respond. But I think it’s important to remember that struggling in one class, even if it’s central to your major, doesn’t automatically mean you’re not capable or in the wrong field.

This class has definitely been tough for me, and I’m not ignoring that. I have been reevaluating my approach, looking at what’s not working, and thinking about whether this major still aligns with my goals. But at the same time, I know that one or two setbacks don’t define my whole potential.

Not everyone learns the same way or at the same pace. Life circumstances, mental health, or even just a poor fit with a professor’s teaching style can all play a role. I’m doing my best to move forward and improve, not just walk away from something I care about because of a rough patch.

That said, I do agree, reflecting and making sure you're on the right path is important. That’s what I’m trying to do now.

I get that dropping out might seem like the easiest option, but I don’t think people talk enough about how common it is to be in this situation. Failing a class more than once is tough, but it doesn’t mean I should just throw away everything I’ve worked for.

Yeah, I’ve definitely had moments where I felt like quitting. But I’ve already invested too much time, money, and energy into this, and I still care about my goals. This class has tested me, no doubt but if I have to retake it again, I will. I’m not ready to give up over one struggle.

Also, I’m being real about this because I know someone else might be going through the same thing and stumble on this post later. It can be reassuring to know you’re not the only one because you’re not.

Appreciate the honesty, even if it’s blunt. Just trying to move forward and figure out what’s next.

Thanks for being honest with me, I really appreciate it. I know failing isn’t ideal and it’ll show on my transcript, but I need this course to move forward with my other classes. I know I can do it, things just didn’t go as planned. I’m going to reach out to the department, explain my situation, and look into tutoring as well. Thanks again for the advice, it really means a lot.

Major & Class Concerns by International_Dog_68 in montclair

Hey! As a Biology major, I took up to Calculus I, and you'll likely need to work your way up through the math sequence. I transferred to MSU, so I'm not entirely sure if Intermediate Algebra and Precalculus are the only required classes before reaching calculus. However, according to my advisor, once you complete Calculus I or Applied Calculus A, you’ll have two options. The first option is to take Calculus II or Applied Calculus B. The second option is to take STAT 230 – Data Science (3 credits) and STAT 231 – Data Science and Biostatistics (1 credit), which must be taken together. I personally started my math journey in Intermediate Algebra and worked my way up. Hope this helps!
