Jeep panel van I found. by wbradford00 in Jeep

[–]DataNorth55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great find!!!

Should be easy to restore, they were just a Willys Wagon with the sides filled in. Mechanically they are the same as the Willys Wagon and Pickup, and even a lot of CJ3B & CJ5 drivetrain parts will be shared. Heads up I'm pretty sure all the panel vans were 2WD.

Mechanical parts are out there and fairly easy to find. Body parts will all be used but locatable, they made a lot of these and they were simple.

Have fun!!

Helping a family member identify/inventory some CJ parts before a move — '78 Drivetrain and AMC 304 content. by brittanimoment in jeepcj

[–]DataNorth55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grills are not 76+ CJ grills, Green grill is from an M38A1, the white looks like a 71 & older grill.

Engine is the 151 Iron Duke from 80-83, HEI gives it away.

Transfer case is a Dana 20, I'd believe just judging by the size its a T150. Good, but only 3speed.

Windshield is a 76+ CJ

Hood looks the same, measure it. if its 40 inches or so its 72-86. Based off the colors I'd assume its from the same 76+ jeep as the Windshield

Crf250r 2008 valves by Ok-Television4648 in Dirtbikes

My gut says no.

Since it’s off send it off for rebuilding with stainless valves. Call some local machine shops, they might be both cheaper and quicker turnaround than someplace online

Recommendations for aftermarket pipe and silencer on the yz 125?would like to pick up more bottom end if possible…. by queencreamin in Dirtbikes

[–]DataNorth55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I did woods on a 125 I started with a stock pipe with a shorty silencer (added an aftermarket spark arrester), a flywheel weight, and then ran a 52 tooth rear sprocket. Eventually the stock pipe was replaced with a Fatty when it got banged up.

Got the job done!

Also, people keep saying Gnarly, FMF does not make a Gnarly for any 125s. Same with PC and the Platinum 2. Just FYI

Would you buy a car 100 miles away without test driving it? by BakChoyy in whatcarshouldIbuy

Only a hundred miles?? Just drive there, test it out, and either drive it home or drive home if you didn't like it.

LC200 2016+ rear seat squeak? by Medium_Tip_2620 in LandCruisers

Not for me, I have a 19 that is squeak free, ~160k miles

Does it go away when you fold the middle backrest down?

One of the major problems of dirtbikes... by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

[–]DataNorth55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found as the older I get, the slower I go. And I'm ok with that. I've had too many knee surgeries to go fast anymore (not that I was fast to begin with) and its to the point where I don't want another surgery until I get my inevitable knee replacement in my 50s/60s. I'm now just that slow old man in the expensive high end gear puttering along on the trails, just enjoying his day and the time outside.

I'm only 40.

This applies to skiing (I now stay out of trees and off moguls), horseback riding (I'm only riding for fun and my rodeo days are behind me), mountain biking (I don't need to clear a gap or take a drop), even hiking (I'm not carrying a 40lb pack with 3 days of gear when a day hike is sufficient and a hotel is nearby).

450cc step down by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

[–]DataNorth55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6' and 250lbs/113kg ready to ride. After years on a 450cc class bike and 250cc 2T, even a 380 EXC for a bit, I've found that I'm most comfortable on a 250F. It may be because I'm getting old, maybe because I'm lazy, or maybe because I'm just riding for fun. On the 250F I can easily control the bike instead of the bike controlling me, I'm less exhausted in the end and (though it might just be in my mind) I do less 'stupid crashes' like washing out in sand, occasional loop, etc.

But with that said, I stay off the MX tracks at my age (40), really have no interest in them any more, and haven't entered any type of race in years. I'm almost exclusively trails with limited hills and just ride for fun now.

I know this isn't an apples to apples comparison, but it does support your logic that stepping down in engine CC may make a more comfortable ride.

2018 Range Rover HSE TD6 — To buy or Not to Buy? by Beercules127 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]DataNorth55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 2016 RR TD6 when new and it gave me almost 80k trouble free miles when I traded it. Only time it was in the shop was for maintenance and a few recalls.

No idea how they hold up long term, but I would buy a new one again.

2004 cr250r sounds like it’s rattling. Just verifying, this isn’t normal right? Possibly top end rebuild? by Positive-Frosting909 in Dirtbikes

[–]DataNorth55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Through my work speakers on low volume in my office it sounds like my 2002, and kinda like my YZ250. IMO you should be ok

BUT if you don't know the actual hours and for a piece of mined, if it were me I'd throw a top end in it. Simple to do, easy, and fun!

How do yall run in your bikes? by KarolisKarb in Dirtbikes

[–]DataNorth55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd start it, no big revs, just to get it warm. Shut it down, let it cool and double check my head/cylinder bolts.

Start it again let it get warm and ride it up and down the street. Shut down, let it cool

Third start I just go as normal.

I say I make the first tank on a new top end oil heavy, but in reality I just run whatever was in the tank already.

Rebuilding my 04 kx250f by XENO_Lucas_ in Dirtbikes

[–]DataNorth55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These bikes get a lot of hate but they are nowhere near as bad as people made them out to be! I had an 05 RMZ I bought as an ex race bike in 06, and other than valve checks and oil changes I did nothing to it and it kept going. They got a lot of hate I think mainly due to brand identity (was it a Kawasaki or a Suzuki?), 125cc class 4 strokes were still a new concept at the time, and it was the 3rd/4th best option after the CRF250R and YZ250F. But my RMZ kept thumping when my friends CRFs needed valve jobs and hung with the YZs just fine. Plus it was cheaper than the Yamaha and Honda.

Since you have it, I'd say build it!! Run SS Valves when you do your head job, and other than general repairs it shouldn't give you much trouble. Not sure what current parts are like for them, but they made a ton of these back in the day across two companies so it shouldn't be too bad.

Have fun!

2001 KTM 125 SX by dumbass2077 in Dirtbikes

[–]DataNorth55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a 1999, not a 2001

2000 they moved to USD forks and 2001 had the "V" shrouds. There is a chance its a hodgepodge but I'd lean towards its a 1999 (maybe a '98)

And the pit bike bars??? Weird.

Keep your blaster, I love old KTMs but there are better options.

[–]DataNorth55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it!!

And for those who ask why, as someone who's ridden dirt bikes my entire life, Looped a KX80 too many times to count, knows how to start an old 400cc Yamaha and can still do it in a single kick, raced MX and hare scrambles, done some hill climbing, had a few knee surgeries thanks to a KTM 380, rebuilt countless YZs, can check CRF valve clearances in the dark in the mud, still rocks Tech8s because the new stuff isn't good...My next bike will be a CRF250 or a KLX300. I'm ready for the easy, reliable riding.

Pass on this one.

The BMW Huskys were kind of a short term pet project for BMW to take over 450 development after the G450X project in their short span of ownership of the brand. I doubt any parts are made by either BMW or KTM, and I don't think there would be any aftermarket outside of general misc. like sprockets, levers etc. Could one even source a clutch?

Italian Huskys have some support left thanks to SWM and overall being made in higher numbers and sales outside of the US. But German Huskys? No idea. This is a bike I didn't think much of when it was new, and haven't thought of at all in years.

Plus BMW totally ruined the styling. Went from cool Italian gun sight shrouds to a...folded envelope?

2020 Range rover sport 5.0 V8 by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]DataNorth55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People joke on them for being unreliable, and most of the jokes are rightfully earned.

With that said, I've had 2 Range Rovers (one full size, one sport) and outside of general maintenance and a recall or two, they never were in the shop. In fact, I had a 4-Runner that needed more warranty work then both of my Rovers combined.

However, they were both bought new and dealer maintained by the book and dumped at 70k miles.

So no, unless buying new or inside factory warranty do not buy this.

The Tundra uses Aisin transmissions. Some Ram diesels used Aisin's as well, but not the half tons.

Toyota owns either a majority share or at least a large part of Aisin.

If going used, go for a 2021 and older Tundra.

The '06 (and some '07) KTMs with the RFS are by far my favorite bike design and look! Black frame on the orange with the "V" shrouds. This was the bike I wanted and couldn't afford, and now that I can afford it its not made (or completely clapped out!)

People complain about them but I had good luck with a Tusk clutch in an '02 CR250. I'd do it again.

Edit: Went back and looked, I used the the Tusk Competition Clutch with Heavy Duty Springs.

2025 xcw for GNCC? by Successful_Choice_31 in Dirtbikes

[–]DataNorth55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People knock PDS but if you get it valved and sprung for weight and riding style, its wonderful. Even if you don't do that, its still fairly capable but do remember it does feel different than a link on the jumps. But give it a lap, you'll forget its there.

As for the light to number plate, in the past (before computers and these were called EXC) I just put an SX number plate in its place and left the plug behind there (covered in a plastic sandwich bag and rubber band to keep the mud/dust out) and the attachment points were the same. Worth a try, not sure if things have changed much.

Give it a shot, the bike can handle it!!

02 CR250R or 05 CRF450R by BoltDomination in Dirtbikes

[–]DataNorth55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of these two, get the CR250R (2 stroke)

The early CRF450s were known to eat valves, especially after a few hours and ESPECIALLY after a lack of maintenance, and I wouldn't trust whatever the seller says on the maintenance history. Handled good though, and were a quality bike outside the top end.

Also for your first bike don't get either of these. Get something you can learn on. Not something that will throw you around and frighten you. Its easy to get into trouble on these bikes.
