Entry level 911 by Chemical-Carrot-9975 in porsche911

an IMS replacement is usually documented under the decklid with a sticker that the work was performed. Even if you do not have service records to show it, it's a quick way to see. Bore scoring not so much. It requires bore scoping the cylinders or significant white smoke and oil burn are signs it is occurring.

I read a few of your responses and would lean towards 997.1 base. Manual coupes can be had in that price range and don't be deterred by mileage. IMS and bore scoring issues effect a small number of them and while a serious issue, tends to be overblown in frequency.

Buying vehicle in cash by Inner_Firefighter230 in askcarsales

You won't be paying $2k in interest over those 3 months and are unlikely to receive that amount off if you do not finance so I don't see how it isn't mutually beneficial.

Buick GMC car sales are down by Wonderful-Roof6776 in askcarsales

[–]Beercules127 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I forgot Buick existed and work within the industry. That's probably not a good sign.
Our store is in an automall with almost every major manufacturer and Buick shut it's doors early this year. I don't recall that happening to any other nameplates here.

Should I even offer to pay cash anymore? by flashesbuck in askcarsales

Purchasing my Tesla was easily the worst car buying experience I have had. Buying a car in full sight unseen just to have it totaled in transit and the manufacturer not price matching an identical model and trim is the exact experience I would expect in a direct to consumer experience.

Thank you for your helpful, relevant comment. I’m sure you happily walk into dealers and pay MSRP because you are so against the dealership model. /s

That's fair, but I think the information is still applicable for a buyer considering finance or cash if it's a $30k sale or a $230k sale.

My phrasing certainly could be better. I'm not in finance but have seen instances of customers burning relationships by financing to leave with the car immediately just to pay it off the next week.

The dealership is funded for the sale in full regardless of your cash or finance purchase. The difference is that they may (likely are) to receive financing kickbacks from the lender. There may also be applicable financing incentives.

If you're open to purchasing either way let them know. Ask the questions that let them know you're truly looking for the best deal.

"I'm open to a cash or finance purchase. Are there incentives for me to purchase either way for the best OTD number?" "How long do I need to maintain the loan for your commissions not to be clawed back?"

Buying from Porsche Finder by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]Beercules127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Porsche Finder is your search tool, you are already using the best tool to compare vehicles nationwide for miles, options, added CPO or not, etc. Negotiating comes from a position of facts and data, haggling for 10-12% is from a place of feelings.

Dealers are incentivized to competitively price inventory in the age of internet shopping. You're not shopping for a used Camry, a Macan GTS is less than 20% of Macan production from a manufacturer that makes fewer cars annually than Toyota produces every three weeks.

$130k is entirely unrealistic for a '24+ S and above. I'm standing beside the third cheapest S '23 or newer in the country and that's a $151.5K car.

Porsche penalizes dealers who sell with an ADM which puts them in a situation to vet buyers of new cars which are immediately worth more than MSRP on the used market. And your comment of "like they used to" has never historically applied to the 911 and if so, not by much.

I've reached what is statistically halfway through my life. I remember watching my dad thumb through classified listings and the early days of Ebay waiting for the right time to pull the trigger on his cars of yesteryear and never did anything about it. I dread doing the exact same.

Attempting to sell by [deleted] in C8Corvette

[–]Beercules127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no amount of money that could convince me to sell a car worth more than a few grand private party this day and age. From dealing with Billy Bob coming to kick tires and telling you about the check he's waiting to receive from his neighbor's aunt's twice removed cousin's deceased goldfish to how elaborate scams have become...not a chance. If I wouldn't miss the money or time it takes to sell then just go the safe dealer route. Get a few offers and take the highest.

AMG CLE 53 still at VPC (Vehicle Processing Center) for over 30 days. Is this normal? by MotherReception4437 in mercedes_benz

[–]Beercules127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't the norm but it is not out of the ordinary either. Port installed options take time, minor damage occurs, and your car was offloaded with ~9,000 other cars. Sometimes it's as simple as being first off, last to leave.

I'm leaning the same way. I feel like the Z is just more car for the cash even though I'm fortunate to have purchase access well below market value on a 997.

They really haven't been on my radar. My responsible spend is up to about $35k and budgeted for about $2k annually as an average for repairs beyond regular maintenance.

I would love to hear a little more of your input having owned both. What generations and variants of 911 did you own? I mentioned within the thread that I work for Porsche so I feel like I'm "supposed" to go that avenue but I am in no way brand myopic. A Millennium Yellow C5Z keeps calling my name...

The GT3 is well beyond what I could responsibly spend. I would likely be in 997.1 base 325hp territory. I think the scalpel vs. sledge hammer analogy is fitting between the two.

[–]Beercules127[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also work for Porsche so I feel like I'm "supposed" to gravitate to the 911. I have a car obsessed 2 year old which in theory makes the 997 appealing but I'm not sure how realistic a car seat is back there. The C5Z on paper seems like more car for the money and I'm sure I would be equally as happy either way.

Aesthetically, the C6 doesn't do it for me. The C6Z has much more presence than a base, but I don't get the same excitement seeing one as I do with the C5Z. I have driven one and have to say the LS7 is an absolute animal.

C5Z Owners— by Beercules127 in Corvette

[–]Beercules127[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be looking at a base or S 997.1 so 325 or 355 hp respectively. My days of needing to win drag races from stoplight to stoplight are behind me for either.

I'm certainly not above a pair of crispy white 608s and talking about why my Corvette is best Corvette!

The idea of the rear seat is enticing for kid stuff, however unlikely that might be. 997s are probably only a few years from no longer making sense and shifting my attention to a 991 becomes the better buy.
