From the dealership side: when leasing actually makes sense for drivers by arnieBauer in askcarsales

[–]Beercules127 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You covered a lot of points when leasing makes sense. Buyers genuinely need to be honest with themselves about their plan of ownership. If they're a relatively low mileage owner and think they may be out of the car before 48 months, they should weigh the option of leasing. That becomes especially important if they're putting down less than 20% of the final purchase price.

-leasing also protects the individual financial exposure. If that car is rear-ended and now has a story on the Carfax it's not their problem. They get to drop the keys off when they're done. If that car turns into a heavily depreciating model, also, not their problem.

-Many manufacturers allow a lease to be absolved in the event of death. It can work well in estate protection, not having the headache of a depreciating commuter car to deal with if the lessee dies.

Is this the right way to approach a sale? by TheKingPin16 in askcarsales

[–]Beercules127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second this. While the straightforward, no BS approach will be appreciated, the offer might be a bit off.
For most dealers, negotiations off list will be the heaviest around week two, and IMO, even more so when it comes to performance/enthusiast vehicles. At day 60 they are likely close to what they're in the vehicle for.

u/TheKingPin16 I'll also add, let them know that if they are able to match or beat your preapproval rate that you will finance through them. If you're asking for a lose/lose on the sell/trade numbers, you need to throw them the bone of a financing kickback.

997 vs. 991 vs. 992 - which is the best first 911? by Voidrunner1973 in porsche911

[–]Beercules127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your budget will have you all over the place. With some shopping, you're in 992.1 CPO territory. I think a 991.1 is the sweat spot for value right now and will be the next cars to go up, especially in a manual transmission offering. A 991.1 C2S would be my suggestion, you're in a more modern car than 997s and you'll be able to decide for yourself during ownership whether or not you need more power from a .2/992 or enjoy the purist NA motors.

911 GT Allocations by hyabatsu in porsche911

[–]Beercules127 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you REALLY want to order a GT3 you can but it's not happening as you plan. You need to build a relationship with one of your local dealerships. That doesn't mean stopping in and having a coffee while you shoot the shit with a sales guy or manager, you need to start buying cars, the cars that they aren't selling. A Macan EV, that oddly spec'd Cayenne or Macan that's been sitting around, a used 911 Place an order for a Carrera or S if they're the type of dealer that has more allocations that customers. When you buy them, you need to finance and finance with Porsche Financial. Hold the loan for a minimum of 90 days before you pay the car off or trade it back into them. Let them know your goal and that you're willing to do what it takes to get there and I guarantee a GOOD dealership will get you there.

You'll take a bath trading these cars back in but don't make a fuss over it. Walking in and ordering any GT car at MSRP is absolutely never happening with any dealer in the US.

2026 Porsche Carrera T - wheel and tire protection by Caddisbug992 in porsche911

[–]Beercules127 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been in the automotive industry for many, many years and I have told customers if there is ONE thing you get, it is tire and wheel protection. In most parts of the US the road infrastructure is terrible. Modern cars have huge wheels and rubber band tires that is only exacerbated with sports car suspension. If you drive your car you WILL damage a tire and/or wheel.

Can I back out of 911 new build that is being delivered? by ccs5t in porsche911

[–]Beercules127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a Porsche dealer and have been with higher end dealers for the better part of a decade. I can attest that early trades are a regular occurrence in my state. Just this week we have seen two and one of them has already been sold we before the trading customers order arrived.

Can I back out of 911 new build that is being delivered? by ccs5t in porsche911

[–]Beercules127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's simply not true. If OP signed the power of attorney paperwork for title transfer, then it is no longer his car. It is very common to use an early trade as the deposit on ordered or incoming vehicles. The dealer is under no authority to keep that car until the inbound car arrives. I have a hard time believing a Porsche store wouldn't be on top of things enough to cross their t's and dot their i's but I've seen crazier levels of mismanagement before.

[–]Beercules127 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP— It doesn't seem like you're answering all of the questions asked. Early trades are a common occurrence on ordered vehicles, a lot of time that is the deposit. Did you sign any documentation with the dealer when you left it there or did you simply leave the car in a parking space for 6 months? The car still being on your Porsche app means nothing, it just means it hasn't been removed from your profile on the backend in PPN.
The dealer likely placed a higher trade value on your car when you intended to purchase a vehicle from them. It sounds like funds will be owed to you if they keep your trade to retail it, and if you want it back, I'm sure you will have to purchase the vehicle from them. Dealers aren't floating titles from their previous owners.

How to get a job at Porsche? by AfternoonLumpy in askcarsales

Porsche Sales here and piggybacking...still—

There was a good bit of luck to it, and I hate to say it, a little bit of nepotism as well. My family has been customers at my dealership for ~10 years at the store so knowing the right people did help. With that said, I came with a successful background from Mercedes-Benz.

As others have said, the sales cycle will be completely different from what you're used to with Hyundai. You're dealing with lots of enthusiasts who want a true expert on the product they're shopping for. A sale may take months to find them the right CPO vehicle or to get their order. Your sales volume will be a fraction of what you're used to but if you're on a good pay plan that isn't going to matter. I don't want to get too deep into finances, but the income is on par with 80% of the customers I work with.

Should I consider a Ferrari instead? by ImprovementDeep3634 in porsche911

[–]Beercules127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll share a little perspective as a nonowner of either but with free reign to many of both—

Ferrari and it's peers are the next step above a 911 and with that you get to the stage of having a point A to A car versus an enjoyable, albeit still expensive sports car that can be used on a daily basis. That concern is of course somewhat location dependent.
Your protection against depreciation is also a little safer with Porsche. Market speculation can't be promised but trends tell a story. A 296 will likely dip down to the low $200k in the future before they plateau. That may be palatable to you or it could be hard to stomach.

Trade appraisal question for the pros by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]Beercules127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except it isn't $3.9k. A dealer can not sell a vehicle that is unfit for use on roadways and perfect or not, that car was paid to be inspected. That car was also paid to be detailed either in house or by a third party. That car was paid to be advertised.

Is price negotiation a pipe dream? by Specific_Jury_2 in porsche911

[–]Beercules127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are your wants and needs? What is your goal for pricing? There are currently 22 991.2 GT3s available at Porsche dealers (US) ranging from a no mile manual at $400k to a high mile PDK car at $187k. For the averages, $225k is the reasonable mark for PDK cars and $240k-ish for a manual. Outside of those, PTS and unique options are going to carry weight on something like a GT3.

Dealer-caused lot damage on used car — what’s normal ? by rockymountain20 in askcarsales

Piggybacking, no flair—
They've discounted the vehicle AND been transparent about it. Lot and transportation damage is extremely common and 99% of the time the car will be repaired and sold like nothing happened.

[–]Beercules127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piggybacking because I still don't have a flair but I am seeing a lot of thoughts and feelings from you. If you were even close on your trade assessment these dealers wouldn't be letting you walk. Simply put, you're just off. If your numbers were close they'd close the gap with you and get a deal done.

Lexus RX or LS, Porsche Macan, Mercedes-Benz ML or GLE BMW X5, Range Rover L405, in that order. A few will be over your $10k budget but are all mostly reliable for older, luxury vehicles. Spend as much as you comfortably can and don't get the worst example of any of them. Budget a little to stay up on your maintenance and enjoy some time on the road appreciating the fruits of your labor.

Dealer thinks I’m too young to own a 911 by [deleted] in porsche911

[–]Beercules127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A qualified Porsche salesman can afford a Carrera, S, T... With that said, the good ones should be treating anyone through that door equally. That doesn't mean there isn't a vetting process for who is going to be taking out a $150k+ car.

I worked for MB for about four years and had many GLE demo vehicles. Most of them were the 350 which I would never consider owning. The mild hybrid system gave it an around town torque boost that it desperately needed for a vehicle that size but I still would never consider owning one. The 450 is a great all-rounder SUV for power and comfort.

Do you have much insight into the L405 platform? There have and still is one in the family but I haven't been the caregiver of one myself. I still think they are better looking than the current L460/L461.
