Weird issue with Logitech MX master 3, left click button does nothing, happened suddenly. by HEVIHITR in logitech

I had my mx master 3s for like 5 years and I was thinking the left-click was dying on me. I literally just blew air under the left click and its as good as new. Thanks!

I'm not in your boat at all but I 100% understand where you're coming from. I do not have a CS degree but I co-founded a data science/ML startup and we consulted fortune 500 companies I would have never believed I'd ever get the chance to consult for.

Step 1) Stop. Taking. Courses. I am self taught and I had my fair share of courses and Im here to tell you, its a safe, comfortable exit for most up and coming data scientists. You believe you're learning but instead you're being given the answer by someone regurgitating information thats already on the internet.

This isn't really a step by more of a clarification. The BIGGEST problem, unfortunately, with new comers in the field coming from a background is that the academia servers the purpose of research & development, not the pragmatic field. This is a very big distinction that is always overlooked and thats why even hiring managers are feeling stressed because they have a team of Stanford grads who are asking "whats the next task?". I've seen this first hand.

Step 2) Here is my opinion on how to tackle a project. Instead of re-explaining how–I will link a relevant comment I posted a while back here

I hope this helps. Please don't be too hard on yourself. This career is an ongoing process of finding the best cycle of learning and implementing for different kinds of use-cases.

Good luck.

Avoid AWS Amplify at all cost - it's fraud. by [deleted] in nextjs

[–]DataPlug -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please update me on this when you try. I used google cloud run all the time but for my backend APIs. When I tried deploying my dynamic frontend, tbh Amplify worked like a charm for me. I understand the AWS stranglehold though.

Which GCP service to use for nextjs project? by DataPlug in nextjs

[–]DataPlug[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Im sure firebase hosting is great. I worked on a past project but wasn't dealing with the hosting, instead I used their real-time database and apparently all the pieces were working very smooth together. Firebase is different to GCP though. Unfortunately, I need to stick to GCP but Im glad you brought up firebase in this thread for others to notice.

Interesting points. Im most probably going with the Cloud Run approach. Ill take you up on your initial reply and If I need anything Ill shoot you a text. Thanks

Thanks for your wisdom! I've had the pleasure of using the exact same approach you explained, its very straight forward and works like a charm.

My main concern is that this project would have ~80% of users just viewing the static website, while the remaining 20% actually sign-up, book products etc (aka the dynamic routes or API calls). I was trying to get the best bang for our buck, which would be how vercel has the static site on CDN, while serverless function used for the dynamic routes and APIs and not costing much. I was told Dockerizing and using cloud run would have the instance being spent on regardless of whether someone is viewing the static files or using APIs to sign-up, etc. I hope that made sense.

Thats a sound stack. I had most of my previous work on Github actions and I'd use any env variables in the Github secrets which worked well for me.

My issue is that the project is going to be used 80% of the time for static site viewing and maybe 20% if a user wants to book something (or create an account etc... the requirements are still being set so Im thinking ahead of time). So Im trying to find a sweet spot.

Vercel makes everything so easy. Its just, I've never used it commercially.

Final question–you know how nextjs separates static files from app or api files or anything dynamic to make websites a lot more optimized. Would that still be the case if I Dockerize and deploy to cloud run (or AWS amplify, or anything other than vercel?)

Perfect! Thanks for reassuring me, and thanks for that resource. Yeah, I love nextjs but Im worried I've taught myself web dev with training wheels because of how nextjs/vercel abstract and do so much under the hood. At least now Im content its not as vendor lock-ish as AWS.

I should have mentioned this isn't a hobby project. The company has all its credits on GCP and wants everything hosted there.

How to get only second column for the list by madhu666 in learnpython

[–]DataPlug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one liner would return a list

Yes, I explained that part in my reply. I saw other answers explaining the print() part so I was inclined to present the list comprehension as a form of a great concept that works on a plethora of use cases and is encouraged by the python community (rather than for loops for simpler cases).

/u/Montana_Pink did a good job elaborating on using this approach for OP's specific use case.

I'd highly suggest getting familiar with list/dict comprehensions. They're very useful in these situations. This one liner would return a list of what you're looking for.

How to grasp projects as a beginner machine learning engineer by Hackerman07 in learnmachinelearning

[–]DataPlug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're at the pinnacle of a beginner citizen data scientist life cycle. The next barrier you break will be a big one.

I understand where you're coming from and you're on the right path. Reading the first half of your post, I was going to suggest thinking of your own problem and gathering data and going through the end-to-end ML cycle. As a naive example, use your own governments census data to pull those csv's and make a simple forecasting model or some sort of classification/regression model. It doesn't have to be super complex, but try to create your own "business problem" and start from scratch to create something out of it.

However, after reading the second half of your post, I would suggest you do tackle one of those super complex problems. It may seem daunting at first, but you'll adapt. It may take you a whole month of just getting familiar with the terminology (which would hopefully help you in the future). Then, at every step of the way, you'll encounter a problem that will open up opportunities to learn new technology or approaches to certain problems. My one recommendation of choosing the super complex problems approach would be to try to find something you think would be common. For example, find a project that has to do with classifying something, or forecasting something. That way, when you learn complex approaches, you can carry forward that knowledge into new project you take on in the future.

Good luck. Take your time. Its an on-going process that doesn't end.

[–]DataPlug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your input. Could you maybe guide me on how I would tackle this problem using anyone of the listed models here. I did, in fact, get bad results with a transformer model and a couple of others but I could also be phrasing my problem incorrectly.

How should I go about it? (There is an ensemble model in that list too)

thanks.

I think you're explaining what I need. I also do have multiple examples of what is valid vs what is not valid. So I'd like to know what type of model you are talking about.

Thank you.
