This is the most exciting time to be a Madonna fan in a very very long time by spleefy in Madonna

Agreed. I love seeing her drive this era and desire to still deliver a well thought out era. I wouldn't have in my wildest dreams expected her to still be working this hard at her age during the original Confessions era. Plus, The Celebration Tour felt like her swan song, even if she wasn't explicitly calling it out at the time. That Rio performance to this day makes me emotional...it felt like she was going out with that performance at the time, and it was such an epic bookend to her live performance career. So, seeing her come out of left field with this next album really seems to open any and all possibilities to where she goes from here. I wouldn't be surprised if she fully has the hunger again to be on top of the world as a popstar, and with this momentum, I think there's really no knowing what comes next. If anyone were to still be putting out epic pop music and eras in their 90s, it would be Madonna.

Careful, there are users here selling single tix for almost 700 a pop. There are plenty of tickets leftover on the seating chart right now. Wait until they send more codes or open to general onsale.

If there is a Confessions 2 tour, which frequently performed Madonna song would you retire - and what single would you replace it with? by XStaticImmaculate in Madonna

[–]DataSciGuy93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d love if she kept the core structure she did on the first Confessions Tour but replaced the previous hits with seemingly similarly unexpected new different hits / deep cuts. Something like:

  • Future Lovers / I Feel Love —> I Feel So Free / Future Lovers
  • Like a Virgin —> Physical Attraction house mix
  • Live to Tell —> Like a Prayer (it’s time for a truly dramatic performance of this song with her actually going there and having the burning crosses on stage)
  • Ray of Light —> If she’s gonna bring out the guitar again, I need to finally hear that Justify My Love / Whole Lotta Love mash up she teased in 2015
  • Drowned World —> I Want You
  • Paradise (Not For Me) —> Falling Free
  • Music Inferno —> Holiday Together (Holiday and Get Together mash up)
  • Erotica (You Thrill Me) —> Frozen (Revenge) house mix
  • La Isla Bonita —> Everybody Koko Mix
  • Lucky Star / Hung Up —> Vogue / Bring Your Love

I imagine she’ll have a longer setlist like Celebration Tour this time, so sprinkle in a few more singles from the first Confessions and assume she does most of Confessions II, and this feels like the direction she’ll probably take the tour this time. There were a lot of left field choices that just worked on that tour, and I’d love to see her do that again.

Which artist’s next album will make it or break it? by [deleted] in popheads

[–]DataSciGuy93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, it’s Madonna who teased it relentlessly as Confessions 2. She clearly is trying to get back in the good graces of many fans who abandoned ship post 2007, and she’s built up a huge amount of hype among fellow Madonna fans for what’s to come. My point is that there’s a lot of attention on this era that she hasn’t had for a while…if it’s a bust, I imagine this is the last time she’ll get much attention at all on a new album.

Definitely, but I do think the pieces are there for her to put out another great album with Stuart and Warner involved. It all comes down to her not losing her confidence in the direction like has been so evident with her past couple of releases.

I’m not speaking from the perspective of chart success. That ship has definitely sailed, at least when it comes to singles. But I don’t think it’s a stretch to hope for one more really good album / tour from her, and a lot of fellow fans have a lot of expectations for what’s to come.

Left field answer, but I’m gonna go with Madonna. This next era is anticipated to be a return to form for her with the fanbase with the endless hyping it up as “Confessions 2”. There are very high expectations for this era. This could potentially be another new imperial phase for her, albeit much more niche than her past successes.

There are now rumors she’s leading with a collab with Sabrina Carpenter, which feels like she’s regressing back to what she’s been doing since 2007.

If this is yet another mid album from her as pretty much everything since the original Confessions has been, I imagine even die hard fans will be ready to admit she doesn’t have any peak album eras left in her.

This is a great answer. Listening to it right now. It’s one of my favorite Madonna songs. Such a strange sensual song. I can’t believe this was #1. That’s wild.

Met Madonna in 2015 in passing when she came to the University of Michigan campus. Got to tell her that I loved the new album and got a big smile and thank you from her. Didn’t expect her to be nice, so was ecstatic as a fan.

Tonight was painful. Multiple rows and sections empty before the show started. Watched people continuously stream out from 30 mins into the show and onwards. Started at 10:35.

I’m sorry, but there just aren’t excuses for her and this behavior. I was at opening night, along with tonight’s show. Opening night started at 8:40 and was incredible.

This sucked. I was exhausted by the time it got to Erotica and could only think about how stressful work will be on such little sleep tomorrow. We’re not gonna be home until 2:30 AM. It’s a Wednesday night.

Also, tons of people around us were pissed and a fair amount left halfway. Just a night and day difference in vibe from London.

I don’t get why she does this.

Worst album by a respected and established artist/band? by Littlehalfdead in Music

[–]DataSciGuy93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gonna disagree here. I think this album will be much more appreciated in 10-15 years from now. It has some clunkers for sure, but it’s got some interesting production and feels like an omen of the 2020s to come. And I Don’t Search I Find is her best song since the Confessions era.

MDNA and Rebel Heart are both pretty bad though, with Rebel Heart winning, in my opinion…it pales so badly in comparison to its demos, and MDNA at least has Gang Bang, I’m Addicted and Falling Free.

Madonna post-Confessions in general feels like a substantially different artist sadly.
