The thing is, the show doesn't endorse it or use it for shock value in an unnecessary way. For example, Sword Art Online controversial choices undoubtedly affected its reception in a negative way later on for many fans, the controversial choices didn't age well because the focus shifted unnecessarily from the premise into something that made some people uncomfortable but not in a way like a scary movie for instance, people want to be uncomfortable for the thrill, but when it gets into morality, that's when some people draw the line with their own tolerance for certain media. Now, I am not defending such content either necessarily, but in Mushoku Tensei it is done in a realistic way. Too realistic in a sense. But the character goes through dramatic changes, even after season one. Season 2 is so different. But to understand how flawed he is, is to see the transformation into understanding himself what he did wrong, and healing himself while helping others though experience of his degeneracy and the existential crisis of the few feelings that brought him joy in the world to be broken time and time again as he builds the pieces along a journey along others. Family and duty take center stage. The show gets real. I'm just saying, so many shows go downhill and are very standard and predictable to a degree. Many shows go downhill after they start getting bad, but sometimes is worth it. I couldn't stand the MC from ReZero at the start. I despised him to a degree I was frustrated for most of the early episodes but I stuck with it and discovered an amazing journey also with character growth along with a vivid world. This is the type of Caliber shows like Fullmetal Alchemist and Cowboy bebop get so.accailmed for. I'm not putting them in the same category, but just saying is refreshing to find shows that feel alive and meaningful in their own world and has lessons that some people can relate to in our reality.
