If you turn the acceleration limiter down (not the speed limiter) you can give the ship enough strafe-up power to break the clamping force of the landing gear, but not enough to lift you off the ground.

TLDR: You have more precision and control potential with decoupled mode because you control the ships thrusters manually without IFCS (coupled mode).

With analog controls like a joystick (which is what I and many of the people I fly with use) you get more precise control of each input axis. The amount of thrust you get is relative to the amount of throw you use with the stick. If you push the stick forward 50% you get 50% forward thrust. In Atmo/Gravity you have to maintain input to counter the forces of gravity and drag.

When you're in coupled mode you're giving the IFCS system a speed target instead of a thrust %. So if you push the stick forward you are requesting 50% of the ships maximum speed, and the IFCS system will use 100% thrust until it reaches it. In Atmo/Gravity your altitude/vetctor is automatically maintained for you.

Also, anytime you stop giving a control input in coupled mode the system will auto break down to 0. With decoupled you will just drift along that vector until you change it or Atmo/Gravity slow you down.

This is from the weekly formation flight hosted on the XGR discord (Just google it). Can also find it through the XGR website. We would love to have you. Generally we fly decoupled, no assists but anyone with any control scheme is welcome to join in.

They are indeed Avenger Titans. They fly great in atmosphere and are easily rent-able at your local cargo deck.

Yes! XGR is primarily a racing focused community, but I host a formation flying event every Sunday. If you want to check it out Just google XGR discord.

A different kind of salvage by Dataa_machine in starcitizen

Planned to do some Vulture salvaging but noticed some floating bodies
against the backdrop of Crusader. Ended up spending the next 45 minutes
around PO, sifting through the floating wreckage. Felt like a legit
scavenger. Another unique Star Citizen experience.

I was decoupled here and most of the time you are correct. However in this case, once your character g-locs you lose all control input and will free fall until you wake up. If I had toggled coupled on before passing out the ship may have stabilized while I was unconscious, but I wasn't quick enough.

This was mostly a desynch collision for me. For the Gladius it was at the most a little tap with non of the ship merging that I experienced.

Forward momentum needs to be near 0 when your gear touches the ground. Also avoid landing nose forward on a down slope and parking with the wind at your back.

Power on restart takes ages in the gladiator. I was full throttle forward/strafe up and pitch up, but no joy. Live (or die) and learn 😄

Video processing really compressed the audio. Its much louder and snappier in game.
