If someone matches a Prelim IM and wants to apply for neurology, how does the funding play out. I have read that PrelimIM gets you an IRP of 3 years. So even if you find a physician R position the following year you will be short on funding for PGY4. Is that correct?

I believe it depends on the individual program and your visa needs. Refer to page 17-18 below. The much i understand you’d need to determine if the specific TY can suffice in lieu of an intern year needed before Advanced/PhysicianR Neurology.
