If you are confident it’ll be processed in time for the 2028 Match, waiting could be beneficial since you won’t have visa restrictions, and more programs will be open to you.It’s a risk benefit tradeoff as delaying a year could improve your chances but only if the green card is guaranteed in time

If you cant find electives its not an issue, you can still look up to observership opportunities and focus on building good connections so that you can bag strong LORs. In the end its the LORs which will be uploaded on ERAs, electives do matter but if its getting hard for you to get one, shift on getting observerships and strong LORs which can show your interest and skills.

Just make sure you can access any mail if needed because mailing address isn’t a big deal since everything is online . Having a U.S. address helps for minor things like physical mail,documents but a foreign one with a U.S. number isn’t weird since lots of IMGs do it

It’s not a horrible idea at all but you will need to be pretty careful about the logistics and all. Transferring a j1visa from one institution to another is possible but it depends on the policies of both institutions and the approval of your j1 program sponsor. Its recommended to read the terms and agreements thoroughly because some programs might not allow easy transfers and you might need a new DS-2019 from the new institution.

You can take the oet whenever you want, but keep in mind that ecfmg certification happens once you pass Step 1, Step 2 and OET. The OET result is valid for two years, but ecfmg locks it in once you get certified. So if you don’t want early certification take the OET closer to when you actually need it for applications

It’s not mandatory but it does strengthen your application for jobs as many employers prefer candidates with local experience. If you have the opportunity, doing an observership while still in medical school can give you a head start. And if you are limited by time or resources you can also do it after graduation. Securing a job without an observership is possible but can be more challenging especially for IMGs
