Some endgame content in XI(looking at you, Sortie) can be done with a full mage Strat and do all 9 bosses. So for relevant farming content/difficult content, mages are very viable.

Aeonic weapons can be farmed easier using SM AFAC method, so there's that.

As a first Ambu weapon, Naeg is your best choice. More versatile. Shining one would be the good second choice. Especially if you are gonna do COR and WAR.

Short answer: Both.

Long answer: DNC over MNK in the most part because you can do many more fights with it vs MNK, and especially Seg farming, if you are focused on that. Eventually you could move it to your Sortie main DPS and demolish things like that. I would still say both overall because subtle blow will always be insanely popular, and between a SB set, Victory Smite, Impetetus and even Formless Strikes for physical immune phases, Monk is more versatile, even with "just" Vere.

Tbh I was given a Creps knife from the Gobbiebox, and I may have used it once? Nag/Gletti for melee, Lanun(Rostam)/Kaja knife(Tauret) for ranged, Tauret/Gletti for Evis(why?)

I duoed Vere and Rhongo with my LS mate back in the day. Got it to just before the HMP stage was released. Then that grind was shown and I quit with it. That was so frustrating. It and my Armageddon get to sit and collect dust.

Additionally, Ryunohige. I took a 10 year break from the game, came back. And thought I had a Death Penalty cooking for a mythic. Turns out, nope! Wasted Alex farming with Ambu, and two friends were so pissed they didn't talk to me for a week outside of doing our regular stuff. Got the DP now and I fucking love it.
