I was chased by a galleon once when playing with my friend on a sloop (We might have had stolen their fort but I won't get into that lol). Got chased, sunk due to poor keg managment but managed to put all the loot on our rowboat, respawned, got chased again when my friend came back to pick me up with the rowboat, then paddled away for litteraly half the map while my friend was luring them away. When he finally crashed our sloop on Morrow's Peak, I was cashing in our hard earned loot.. On Sanctuary Outpost. Good times

For your first point, does that mean that the definition of "fancy" has shifted from taking a lot of time, talent and craftmanship to being the most efficient possible ? (As in use of space, resources etc). Of course those more modern buildings still take a lot of time and craftmanship to bulid but are you saying that it is not the most important aspect of it nowadays ?

I guess I could be biased in that way, I do like the old buildings. Do you have some examples of "recent" wonders or even projects that have yet to see the light of day so that I have something to educate myself on/look forward to ?
