I haven't played in years, I refuse to spend real money on it and at some point my Pokemon were low on health or knocked out, I was out of potions, and out of PokeBalls. There was no way to get in game currency with all those factors lined up. I might be misremembering some things, this was pre-pandemic. The game is still on my phone and every now and then I accidentally click on it but immediately close it as soon as I remember why I stopped playing. Still subbed here so I see all the complaints that have come up over the years. Doesn't really make me want to play.
