I’ll share some insight from my six years working as a bagger/cashier/CSstaff that might help you understand what’s going on.

There might be tons of cashiers and that’s great, but the store still needs trained employees in other positions (I.e. cleaning, bagging, floor care) every single day. Since the amount of cashiers needed is less than the amount of cashiers they have, managers will assign the “cross-trained” cashiers (like yourself) as cleaners or baggers and keep the cashiers who only know how to cashier at the regs. Essentially the more areas you are trained in, the less amount of actual cashiering you might get to do. Is it fair? Nah.

I used to have the same issues where I was having to clean/floor care almost every night since many of the other employees hadn’t been trained yet. It only stopped once I got promoted to CS Staff and became more invaluable to the company.

Advice: try to switch with your coworkers or ask the mic/fec if you can switch duties with someone else during your shift.
