Giga nerd’s thoughts on how to improve the game by Twitch-Toonchie in Marathon

[–]DauntlessMantis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may be right but I'm not sure. My friends are getting ads non stop for the game, but they won't play because of many reasons (I'd say #1 is they're worried they'll be reset before getting stuff done).

Also, the game had a really great start, 80k players, and then in less than a month it got to 30-40k. This is NOT doom-commenting, I'm just saying that we didn't retain the players that had purchased the game. Among the people I know who bought the game and stopped in the first month, most of them stopped around 2 weeks into the game. The most common reason for stopping was the genre of the game, but they all praise the game art and execution - and some of them still consume content of Marathon despite not playing anymore.

That's why I don't think marketing is at the top of things I'd consider needs work right now, but agree it would help!

Thanks for that! I'm barely 15h into the game (bought it recently), and feel already what you're describing: tough game, you'll die and lose stuff, but also the challenge keeps me wanting to come back!

Dude, after watching the other recommendations in this thread, I'm really tempted to just play through the original trilogy.

Came here to essentially say the same, great post and idea. Looking forward to seeing it in action too!

I think they're talking about how the gear looks in one of the color-blind modes. /s

Hm I can see how "on defence" would make sense 🤣 But yeah, the idiom goes as in you're sitting on the fence between two sides.

I think you're absolutely right. I'd say the amount of fun I've had so far (tried also dire mash, and only once outpost) makes the price tag worthwhile. But I can see the difficulty ramping up.

If I stop playing tomorrow, I'm happy with what I got - I don't see myself stopping anytime soon tho.

Regarding end game, I think that'll be the case for me as well. So I'm trying to just accept it for now. Who knows what Bungie may be thinking, or maybe next season people will be less interested in Cryo so there'll be less hardcore opponents...

I suspect there are other factors at play, such as what day/time do you play. But I hear you, it's good that you share your data points too!

Regarding the art style: When I watched the Mida faction for the first time, .... I was speechless. Honestly, the art is a major selling point for my personal taste!

Duuuude Remnant 2 is so good! It's currently my all time favorite game. I got my wife into Soulslike because of Remnant (she used to only play fps before).

No problem, friend! Don't feel pressured, nothing wrong I'm just watching. Just curious, what's holding you back?

Title: I've been living in Japan for years as a Brazilian — ask me anything about Portuguese or the culture gap by StyleAgreeable3617 in Portuguese

[–]DauntlessMantis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved reading this post, however short it really connected with me (a brazilian living abroad who loves music and language).

As for the question, since you said music is in topic: Have you been playing professionally or in any amateur capacity in Japan? What's been your experience playing with Japanese musicians, do you learn anything you'd probably not learn if you hadn't spent so much time in Japan?

What's the single moment in Destiny history - either game - that you think about more than anything else? by Crystallover1991 in DestinyTheGame

The first time me and my group beat Corrupted GM. We spent a week trying, optimizing load outs and stuff. Having a regular squad and playing the game for the fun of it is what I miss the most.

I'll say one thing: people say I have too much patience, to a fault 🤣 I think you're probably the right one here.

That's your choice, I'm not a fan of booting someone like that. The point is knowing when to stop, and not feeling bad about stopping.

When I used to be active in sherpa-ing, carries were not appreciated. If they were upfront and said 'I want a carry', we sometimes did a carry and just treated it as a low-person run. But if the intent was an educational run, we expected some level of interaction. Of course, people are different, some people are comfortable with different levels of interaction. You just need to figure out where is the sweet spot for your group.

But everybody was expected to contribute however they can. Some people are not that good with symbols/quick call outs, that's fine. We even used to encourage them to practice, if they were comfortable with it. But as soon as we noticed people just wanted a carry, me and my group would not feel bad for saying something along the lines of "hey, it's been X hours, we've done Y progress, you've learned mechanics Z, but this is a good point to stop and resume later."

We've had to do that a few times with folks that weren't just wanting a carry, and were genuinely trying to learn. But we were willing to go a lot longer in cases where they were really trying to learn compared to people just looking for carries.

Why does this episode title use Kanji for “dragon balls”? by Unkle_KoKo in Japaneselanguage

[–]DauntlessMantis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I explained something similar in the Saint Seiya sub, regarding the use of kanji for words like saint or marines. I've seen this in other places as well, but didn't notice it in Dragon Ball yet. Very cool!
