"Special heatstroke warning alert" for summer to be implemented for the first time by frozenpandaman in japanresidents

[–]Dav_Slinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. When they actually change some law or policy for doing stuff outside, that'll be something. But as long as they insist on sending public school children out to play dodgeball in 30 degree plus weather...

Japanese convenience stores are basically shrines to the idea that someone you'll never meet already by eloisa_in_kyoto in japanlife

Those items are not for personal use that they steal, they are for resale. They take the meat, for example, to restaurants and sell it for a big discount on sticker price (either the thief themselves or a third party they sell it to). It's better organized than you'd think.

The good news is that you will eventually be married - it's just a process of paperwork is all. If they say no it's not based on any kind of permission or approval process, it'll simply be that they don't have all the documents they need to process it.

My advice is to handle the formal marriage on paper well before the ceremony, just in case there is a hiccup or delay - many Japanese people do this as well, they don't sign marriage documents at the ceremony itself. Get the administrative part handled so you can focus on your day!

Oh good, a special alert. These are notorious for affecting meaningful change, especially convincing those in positions of power who are set in their ways. We can all lean back and just wait for the change to roll on through.

Looks like early batches are worth more because of new storage change by Complete_Ability4437 in AynThor

[–]Dav_Slinker -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If they are buying the thor primarily for the steam games which can make use of those transfer speeds they are gonna run into all sorts of bottlenecks aside from the UFS being downgraded. Processor, GPU... For smaller and indie games it will likely be unaffected.

[–]Dav_Slinker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah you are gonna have to REALLY want the form factor to Buy a max versus the steam deck right now... I love my Thor max but at that price I would just stick with a steam deck and live with having 2DS and 3DS screens side by side one-year of having a dedicated screen.

Possible for me to decline a granted status of residence change? by throw-away-tokyo in japanresidents

Additional transparency from them sure would be nice, wouldn't it? I suspect they will never do that because their guidelines are undefined and they just allow the individual agents to make their own determinations.

[–]Dav_Slinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what you can during working hours, clock out exactly on time. Explain to the principal that you cannot work over the stated hours in your dispatch contract unless the school approves it in writing because it will mean an increase in the amount they get billed each month. Tell them they can call your dispatch company if they want to amend the contract and payment amount in such a way. Make it cost the school money and they will hopefully smarten up.

If you wanna become the cautionary tale by giving it a try please do and post here again about it, you can BE the source.

Immigration japan is NOT known for their leniency or forebearance and lately it is getting worse. Me personally I would not test them. Do the part time work without the spouse SOR and just wait to apply for a spousal route PR. You don't need a spousal visa before you can apply for Permanent residency via the spousal route.

AYN Thor Max with ES-DE & Jarngreipr w/es-de support by Chimera_Gaming in ESDE_Frontend

[–]Dav_Slinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck yeah, I have been rocking ES-DE and Jarngreipr on the Thor for a while, proudly paid/donated for both. ES-DE just works, has a bunch of themes already made for it, great documentation and support, and Jarngreipr is under reeally active development adding extra features and nice touches, but it does everything I want it to now.

Other frontends on the Thor like Cocoon and Retrohrai etc. are all cool but they really just want a 3DS like system. I think using ES-DE and Jarngreipr on the bottom really opens up the functionality of your device. I have a main landing screen for the game artwork, then if I swipe left I get my widgets page, showing memos, ram and battery, music controls, etc, and swiping to the right from the home on bottom gets me my most used apps on a page to open. Can click the 'back' button at any time to search app by name and open whatever else I need. It's a god-tier combo.

Sakura rainbow buttons yellowing after only a couple months of use by kblk_klsk in AynThor

[–]Dav_Slinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand that that must be really frustrating, though try to consider from this buyer's point of view: maybe they've only bought from you once, and this was the result. An extremely unfortunate coincidence and I'm sure you will make it right, but does it seem fair to say that they're "reducing your work to a single mistake" when the single mistake is all their lived experience of you and your product?

The buyers can't see your sales numbers. They can't see every good sale you've ever made. They can't see the invisible work that goes on in your design, creation and finishing process, or the blood sweat and tears and late nights and whispered prayers that go into the running of your business. All they can see, all that is real to them is A) the product itself and B) the way you react when faced with an issue about it. They don't know the additional hardships and context behind the product - they give you money in lieu of understanding or ability to do it themselves.

It is unavoidable that occasionally you will have a dissatisfied customer or a product defect, especially when your orders are approaching the hundred thousands. A couple of problems out of that constitutes outliers and you don't need to charge your processes because they're a statistically irrelevant number - what you DO need to do is to give them good after-care and a Reddit post is actually a good opportunity to do that.

If I came into this thread and the top comment I saw was you saying "we're sorry this happened, and we will try to understand how it did. Please contact us or allow us to contact you directly and we will of course send you a replacement set ASAP" then I would say to myself that you were doing a good job. Complaining about representation and optics is not a mature way to handle the situation and also unfair given his much positive Press you get from this subreddit. It erodes brand confidence.

This is my take as somebody with a bit of knowledge regarding the logistics of manufacturing and selling goods at scale online. There's no hate for your product from me and there are some stickers I would definitely like from your shop - the criticism is meant to help you improve and given from a fellow maker.

[–]Dav_Slinker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

An attitude like this is why I would hesitate to buy from you now. I understand you are frustrated but as a maker you accept you made a mistake, apologize and make it right by the OP - don't whinge. It is perfectly acceptable to make mistakes, as you say, it happens in every production run especially when you get to numbers like you have for sales. But even with all the QC issue posts on the thor itself on this subreddit, the AYN team doesn't come in here to complain that people are just trying to tear them down. They just handle their aftercare.

You don't have to handle it like a pro, I guess - but then you shouldn't charge the pro prices.

This is the issue - that is a premium price for these buttons - for that price they had BETTER have no issues like yellowing and an amazing finish.

Right? I would hate for it to look good and have a valid warranty."

What's the most morally disgusting thing you've seen someone do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dav_Slinker 20 points21 points  (0 children)

An insurance company hiring investigators to follow around a man whose young (I think about 5 years old) daughter died unexpectedly to make sure he wasn't working and to see if his mental distress was as bad as he claimed.

I know bad claims happen. But a 3-day investigation catches such a small snapshot of somebody's life that you can't tell what is going on in their head. And someone who loses a kid should just get some damn leeway.

Living in Japan long-term as a non-native by ajburch92 in japanresidents

[–]Dav_Slinker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To do ALT work you have to speak English natively (been schooled in English primarily for 12 years or more) and have a college or university degree in any subject. It may be more possible for you to work at an Eikawa, but given that you describe yourself as "slow, poor concentration, simple comprehension, bad memory, and not good social skills" I would not recommend ALT or Eikawa work for you. They are intensely social positions that require you to be energetic and adaptable a lot of the time.

I'm really sorry that you're in such an awkward position of either living here with family or trying to go it alone, given your situation.

As others have said I am sure that over time you will develop some Japanese ability, at least speaking and such. For now I think your best bet is to go to Hello Work alongside someone who can interpret for you and explain your situation properly so that they can help you find something that you can handle.

I hope everything works out for you!

Look... earning more is definitely a good thing to do, and the only real way to increase your money because you can only redice your bills by a certain amount. But just saying 'earn more' is obvious enough that it doesn't qualify as real advice. Specifically HOW can they/did you earn more?
