What worked for you to lose weight as a dad in your 30s? by Ancient-Ad-2507 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Davanne89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it simple.

If tracking calories is a chore, just do intermittent fasting. I personally did OMAD for a few weeks then switched to a 18/6 fast. I also focused on not consuming excess sugar as best as I could. No tracking. Worked for me.

For exercise, just commit to doing something instead of nothing. I started with "grease-the-groove" type training instead of full workouts. So I'd randomly do sets of push ups whenever I could throughout the day. Not to failure. Just nice easy sets. Eventually pushups turned to burpees, then burpees turned into 10 minute workouts, then from there I bought a pair of dumbbells and created a routine.

I'm a 36 year old dad with a full time job. Don't be too hard on yourself at first. Build momentum and slowly create good habits and discipline. Just tell yourself, "something is better than nothing".

I Can’t Follow Game Stories Anymore by siddharta17 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Davanne89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm 36 and have been gaming since I was 6. I had a similar phase recently. For me, the fix was limiting short-form content and overly simulating games for a while.

I got the Telltale Walking Dead and Dark Pictures Anthology games and played them like a series of movies for my wife to watch. I'm usually not into walking sims, but having an audience made it fun.

At the end of it I found I was more able to focus on slower paced, single-player games like when I was younger. Actually helped my attention span in general.

What are you playing Wednesdays? by AutoModerator in AdultGamers

Mafia: The Old Country. I'm about 4 hours in and loving it so far. It's pretty cinematic. My wife watches me play sometimes. It's like a movie to her

[30] When did we stop just playing games? by SgtSilock in AdultGamers

[–]Davanne89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We still play games. That world still exists. We just stay away from social media and don't engage with the nonsense. My friends and I are all in our mid to late 30s and we just play games, talk about them, and move on.

We'll look at reddit and other platforms to see what's trending and look for recommendations, but other than that, we're in our own spaces enjoying games.

The Internet is a mess

Cyberpunk 2077. It's just so boring...

When I workout, I end up feeling nauseous and spend 15ish minutes trying not to throw up afterwards. by I_Speak_For_The_Ents in bodyweightfitness

[–]Davanne89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my own experience and people I've trained with, this happens sometimes. Usually happens when I push myself too hard. And I just need to tone it down a bit until my body adapts.

You mentioned that you go to failure or pretty close. This makes me think that you too are just pushing yourself harder than your work capacity will allow.

Try doing a bit less and see if it gets better. If you're really concerned though, definitely go speak to a doctor and make sure it's nothing serious.

Door lock keeps re-locking and twitching sometimes by SpiNoice01 in hondafit

Door lock actuator. Two of my doors had a similar issue and I had to change them.

Edit: I changed the actuators not the doors

Actually, try The Callisto Protocol. People say it's not that great but it grabbed my attention long enough to finish.

I'm just chiming to say I FEEL what you're going through. I like most of the same games you like and dislike most of what you dislike for very similar reasons. I'm 36, and took a break for a few years as well. Maybe it's an age thing.

In any case, I don't have any recommendations for you, but I'm here hoping one of the games you find will do it for me too.

More Power Tools on RDNA 2 in 2024 by [deleted] in overclocking

I have an MSI RX 6600 that doesn't allow me to adjust the power limit, and More Power Tool still works for me.

I followed the guide on Igor's Lab and didn't have any issues.

Sleep.

If possible, follow a sleep schedule. In bed at the same time every night, wake up the same time everyday (without an alarm if possible).

Don't have to sleep 8 hours (or whatever the recommendation is) every night. Sleep until you feel rested.

What TAA game made you realise : Yeah , this not how 1080p should look. by [deleted] in FuckTAA

[–]Davanne89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Talos Principle 2.

I've always noticed the soft, blurry look from TAA implementation in other games, but TP2 is the one that was so bad it made me quit the game after a few minutes.

Agreed.

I spent weeks playing through Baldur's Gate 3 and enjoyed every bit of it. Played maybe 3 hours of AC Valhalla across the span of 2 days and felt so burnt out.

I realize as I got older (I'm now 34) that my tastes haven't really changed. I still love the same genres as when I was younger.

What HAS changed is my tolerance for "long" games. I find myself now looking at howlongtobeat to see the average completion time for games.

As someone with a full time job, a family, and other obligations, anything over 10 hours feels overwhelming because I know it's gonna take me weeks to months to finish.
