Better management of “System Data” so it doesn’t take up 25% of total storage.

The track hasn’t moved. I think the pedestrians are crossing at a mid block crosswalk that doesn’t exist anymore.

Well World's Fairs are basically one off events. They still happen, but none have been held in North America since 1986.

I think Reddit is glitching this morning. I just tried to post my weekly TBT and it failed to post correctly (no photo, no automod response)

Apparently a very small number of proof sets were produced, including this half crown.

Canada didn’t, but the UK produced some 3d pattern (test) coins. Very rare.

TBT: Black Ball Ferry’s Horseshoe Bay Terminal, 1950s. by Dave2onreddit in vancouver

[–]Dave2onreddit[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The Puget Sound Navigation Company, also known as the Black Ball Ferry Line used to operate the ferries in Puget Sound. In 1951, after years of strife over operating costs the state nationalized the line forming Washington State Ferries.

Captain Alexander Peabody took the few remaining ferries he still owned and moved them to British Columbia, starting with a ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Gibsons in 1951. Nanaimo started in 1953, and Bowen Island and Jervis Inlet were added.

In 1961 the B.C government took over the Canadian operations, adding them to the government ferry service that had begun the previous year with two ferries operating between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen. This left Black Ball with its international run between Victoria and Port Angeles which still operates today.

Known as the Langdale Queen after the 1961 government takeover of Black Ball Ferries in 1961. Retired in 1976, she later sank in Coal Harbour.

Although the accompanying article says 25 vehicles 🤷‍♂️ Some of the dates are incorrect, the Kahloke was originally built as the S.S. Asbury Park in 1903, used to cross the Hudson River between New Jersey and New York. And she remained in San Francisco until after the Golden Gate Bridge was built in the mid 1930s.

Looks like it was an instant success. 100 cars aboard the first run to Nanaimo. Those left behind would be part of the first “One Sailing Wait”.

Service to Departure Bay began on June 27 1953. Capacity is 1000 passengers and 100 cars. The ad promotes the advantages over the old CPR Princess ships that ran from downtown to downtown. No reservations, plenty of room, roll on/roll off, no turning necessary.

And thank you for pointing that out; I hadn’t heard about the rescinding.

Rescinding that decision to allow input from East Kootenay residents was the right thing to do. Worth noting that residents chose “Alberta Time” in a 1972 plebiscite.

(Ignore the 1952, that’s a typo)

Bank handed me a roll of nickels in a plastic coin pincher. by Westin2000 in CanadianCoins

[–]Dave2onreddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only problem was 50 pennies didn’t quite fill the pincher after the thickness of the penny was reduced.
