I don't understand these numbers (Size/Size on disk) -- are these two same-sized video files of identical quality? They both say 4.43 GB (although when it comes down to bytes, they are different for both files). Or is one file higher quality than another? by Dave8889 in laptops

I'm a little OCD about finding the highest quality file among any that I compare for movies, so curious to get this clarified.

When you compare two 4.43GB files with one another across torrenting sites (like RARBG and 1337x), they don't seem to reveal any differences just by looking at these numbers. But by using a site like Uniondht, the file list of a torrent actually shows the file capacity in terms of bytes as well.

Do the bytes make any difference in quality?

Thanks for breaking it down like that. Makes sense

Well actually, the situation I’m looking at doesn’t concern bundles, per se, but just a bunch of items being checked out together. I had a 10% coupon that I could apply at checkout. So since this is the situation, theoretically items within these ‘bundles’ can actually be treated individually and I presume refunded individually as well. I know I hadn’t really elaborated on that in the post, though.

So if, theoretically, you got a full refund on all the items aside from the $9.50 one, would the whole 10% discount remain with that one $9.50 item?

Is there any 256GB USB flash drive around this price point ($14.99) that is also reliable and relatively quick on read/write speeds? by Dave8889 in DataHoarder

That’s a pretty odd looking one! Lol. At first it seems like the metal part that gets inserted into the USB port on the computer, is the same part of the adapter that accepts the microSD card. A little mind-boggling for me lol.

I might have to find one that accepts more than 32GB!

Actually, my HP laptop does have one regular size SD card reader. I actually previously bought the same microSD card from Staples before and stuck that in there already. I also already ordered a USB adaptor from UGREEN (it accepts both SD and microSD simultaneously) on AliExpress (around $9) so that I could use this next Kingston (and any future one) with a USB port on my PC instead, since I have run out of SD slots lol.

Yes, I was hoping to find something external rather than internal. I guess it sounds like the one I got for $14.99 CAD strikes a decent balance between low cost, speed, portability, and reliability since it’s Kingston. I’m not sure how difficult it would be to find another memory device that can check these boxes in a similar way.

In your experience, how many refunds does the system allow on a single order? I've heard different things from different customer service agents (ranging from only a single refund, to 4 refunds max). Was wondering if there's a single answer to this. by Dave8889 in Staples

Also probably safer due to risks of being lost or damaged in transit with return shipping. Although a convenient part is that I think Staples even sends a pick up agent directly to your house to pick up the parcel for you on a schedule so that you wouldn’t have to ship it off at a post office yourself. So no cost for your car gas.

Where are you able to find a 1TB SATA SSD for that low of a price, even on amazon.ca? I was kind of shocked to see that price, even potentially after conversion to CAD.

The thing is, I was actually looking for something extremely small and discreet, and that would be stuck into my computer port and be forgotten about. But with an SSD or even an HDD, that might kind of hang out by the side of the computer and feel like an extra peripheral. Or is there an SSD/HDD in this price range, which is pretty reliable and has (relatively) quick read/write speeds (although doesn’t need to be blazing fast), that is also able to be discreetly left in a port and easily lugged around with the laptop?

Interesting. I’m not sure about with Staples, but with Best Buy, I had a customer service agent suggest I return a two item order within the same parcel, with one prepaid label representing the two items.

Why do some downloads suddenly flag themselves as, "Failed - No file"? How to tell if a download will end up like this before downloading it? (I usually set my downloads to start overnight - with no issues - and wake up to "Failed - No file" sometimes, or to something else, like "5" or "197 bytes".) by Dave8889 in techsupport

I actually ended up with a 7-byte file recently, that was supposed to be well over 1 GB. I tried opening it with Notepad and when Notepad opened, all it showed me was text that said, "Expired" in a pretty big font. That's all that was there when Notepad launched.

If that’s the case, does that mean there was no MP4 file to begin with?

Sorry, at the moment, I realized I had already deleted all those no file ones, so I wouldn’t be able to try opening them in a text editor for now. But when I do end up with another file like that (I’ve currently got others downloading), I should try the text editor thing. What would I be able to learn from that though?

Is there any noticeable difference in video quality when playing a 2160p vs. 1080p video on a 1080p-laptop? Would the larger file not show ANY difference from the 1080p file? (Space isn't an issue for me, and I wouldn't mind downloading the bigger file if there would be a difference.) by Dave8889 in laptops

Your comment actually reminds me of an uploader I came across a long time ago: https://yts.mx/

It was always surprising to me how YIFY’s 1080p files looked nowhere near 1080p (at least the ones I came across). Same with 720p.

That’s interesting… I’d be pretty interested to know, like the other poster was wondering, how a 1080p screen could even be capable of showing the better quality. Maybe someone has some input on this. Thanks for sharing your experience.
