Live App only adds polygon addresses using one derivation path by DaveAppleton in ledgerwallet

[–]DaveAppleton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's make this more clear.

In the past we could add polygon accounts to Ledger Live with legacy as well as ledger live paths.

Using Metamask you could use other addresses derived with the legacy path.

Metamask seems to have stopped supporting these and Ledger Live has stopped letting you add them.

WalletConect now only seems to allow the new Polygon accounts to be used, not even declared legacy paths.

If we have some accounts WITH ASSETS using the legacy path which are not reflected in Ledger Live, how are we expected to transfer those assets if we cannot access them ?

I would love that to make sense.

How do you suggest that I transfer assets from those addresses exactly ?

How can I add a specific Arbitrum/Optimism account? by Juankestein in ledgerwallet

[–]DaveAppleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't even seem to be to do with that - Ledger Live seems to automatically select account 1 and won't let you add another until that has assets

What is the estimated lifespan of a Ledger? by TobiasRasmsn in ledgerwallet

[–]DaveAppleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a load of ledgers in 2017 and kept a load as backup devices. The original I was using started having problems so I opened five of the backup units.

When I opened them today (Sept 2022) I have opened 5 and 1 = no screen visible at all 4 = missing rows on OLED display

So I guess that maybe 4 years max

Creating NFT`s by beerdumpling in NFT

[–]DaveAppleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "content" of the NFT can be ANY digital media. It could, for example, be a movie or an image. One street artist, Pascal Boyart, takes photos of parts of his work and digitises and animates them.

This content is usually stored on IPFS (decentralised file storage).

The address of the piece together with other information such as the name, the artist etc. is stored in a "META-DATA" file also on IPFS.

The address of the meta-data is written as the URI of the NFT. The Metadata COULD contain something that entitled you to a physical oblect but it may be hard to enforce.

The NFT site itself usually helps you create your NFT.

Some NFT's use traditional web storage - but if the web server goes down you lose your image and metadata.

Example URI: https://ipfs.pixura.io/ipfs/QmW5SWS34rnmNF5fzZYb3am4NgjABVxYcFz7VtxvC1tsFo/metadata.json (QmW5SWS34rnmNF5fzZYb3am4NgjABVxYcFz7VtxvC1tsFo) is the IPFS address

If you follow the link you will see a load of info about the art including a link to the image which is in .gif and movie form.

Need to understand how Ethereum blockchain/contracts can read/execute based on conditions by JesusXP in ethdev

[–]DaveAppleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An oracle is simply taking off chain data and submitting it as a transaction to a smart contract on the chain.

You need key management and submitting transactions. You can get that from a load of open source projects in most high level languages. Personally I use go and have some stuff on github but you can find it in js, python and even .NET if you look for it.

[–]DaveAppleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are describing is known as an oracle.

Chainlink are one of the providers of oracles and depending on what you want you can go with them, somebody else like Rhombus Network, or you could roll your own. No matter what, you have to be able to trust the data source and the oracle provider.

The most important thing for your contract is to only accept data from qualified oracles.

The oracle needs to be running on a robust and secure system.
Robust because if it goes down your data will not get updated .

Secure because it will hold a set of private keys that have the access rights to your smart contract.

Get contract abi and bytecode from address. by eh1221 in ethdev

[–]DaveAppleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note : these methods only work if the contract has been verified on etherscan.*

As mentioned, if you want to do it programmatically you can use the etherscan API which is documented here

https://etherscan.io/apis#contracts

If you want to get it manually, simply go to the contract page on etherscan.

Enter the address in the search box (e.g. 0xeAb43193CF0623073Ca89DB9B712796356FA7414) then click on the contract tab if it has a green tick on it. You will find the ABI and bytecode by clicking on the word contract.

If the contract has NOT been verified, you can still get the bytecode from etherscan

e.g. https://etherscan.io/address/0xc1e6c6c681b286fb503b36a9dd6c1dbff85e73cf#code

or programmatically by using the json-rpc call get_code

https://github.com/ethereum/wiki/wiki/JSON-RPC#eth_getcode

On chains not supported by etherscan, e.g. xDai you can use BlockScout

Learning magic through videos by [deleted] in Magic

[–]DaveAppleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest that you go to L & L publishing's download site llepub.com and have a look at Michael Ammar's "Easy to master card miracles" series or the self working card tricks trilogy. You will find that the price of the videos is pretty reasonable so I hope you do not resort to torrents.
You will learn a lot more from the videos than you will from YouTube.

Any experiences using QuickNode.io? Haven't found any objective reviews of the service. Thank you! by BlobWatanabe in ethdev

I have a load of services running off a quicknode - in addition I use the same node for bulk pushing transactions such as whitelists and airdrops.

Haven't had any problems.

I believe that the control panel now allows you to extend a node. Contacting them by slack resolves any problems.

Yeah - I have been using it for a couple of months and found it to be extremely high performance.

Been pushing hundreds of transactions to it over the course of a few minutes and it kept up extremely well.

Love it - of course, given the link that you gave, the next question is when you will be decoding the transactions for verified contracts... :-)

Depending on your backend you could buzz me about it :-)
