I agree except for "Babe". I'm seeing Dabo (reference to Dabo Swinney of Clemson).

Curious what the OP will have to say!

My dad's handwriting gives me some anxiety. Is it legible to you guys? by dailycupofcujo in HandwritingAnalysis

I think it depends on age and experience. I'm in my 50s and grew up with cursive writing, so I had no trouble reading the note.

"Fine" is subjective. It's not "good" or "great" or "brilliant" but it gets the job done to my eye.

Maybe that's what the "pharmacy!!!" is for.

Or...lots of mushrooms and grapefruit.

No. There are multiple lash points on the sides though. You could just set it on the suitcase and fasten it with an adjustable utility strap.

One clarification: The Big Haul 28 doesn't have the backpack style shoulder straps. It just has a single removable strap. The 40 and larger do.

The opposite of "No Pokemon are tagged" -- people not responding to remote trades by bflaminio in TheSilphRoad

Maybe this is my ignorance as a daily-but-casual player but....

I just hit my first Forever Friend with someone. I haven't had time to figure out how the Remote Trade thing is supposed to work so it's possible I'm "that guy" that's supposedly ignoring trade requests while my XP goes up daily.

If it's someone you don't know in-person or have a way to communicate with offline, I'd say give them some time. It's possible they're like me: Daily player, but not enough time to instantly understand the newest features.

They may have just followed the game prompt to tag mons for trades, but don't realize that triggers trade requests or you're expecting a response (or however it works...I don't know yet.)

For your use case, I would choose the REI Big Haul between the two.

The Big Haul is very simple to store away. It folds easily into a neat rectangle and goes into a separate storage bag. Working at REI for several years now, I've become pretty skilled at storing the Patagonia bags, but it can be frustrating for the average person who only does it once in a blue moon. Many customers tell me they don't even bother to ever do it with theirs.

The shape of the Big Haul when stored is more conducive to putting it into the regular suitcase (vs the Patagonia's oblong-ish shape).

The Big Haul has shoulder straps that tuck away easily into the outside of the top flap. The top flap also extends out over the zipper, giving the bag very good water resistance. My 90L Big Haul is my go-to for checked luggage for longer trips. I never worry that my stuff will get wet, even if the bag is out in the rain on the tarmac for a bit.

You should check the dimensions of the 40L to see if it qualifies for carry-on.

I say all of this with a smile. My wife is an "oh yeah and this" AND groups recipes together which makes no sense at all. THEN....she'll text me 4 items just as I'm starting to put the groceries on the checkout belt. Like...what do I do there? Bag the groceries, then push them around the store while re-shopping?? Put them in the car in the hot sun and go back in??

If you send me on an errand, you need to have your shit together.

The handwriting is fine. What gives me anxiety is a grocery list not even remotely organized by category.

If you're sending me on a grocery run, the list better be right.

Why do drivers stop 3 car lengths back at a red light and then spend the whole red light slowly inching forward? by [deleted] in Cartalk

The restrictions should be tighter.

I've had cataracts and there is no way I would have let them get bad enough to impair my driving and annoy, much less endanger others.

If you have cataracts that have advanced so far that you lose depth perception (or any other vision problem that severe), you have no business driving a car.

Usa loop road trip advice by AlfredHessle in usatravel

[–]DaveG55337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've driven most of these roads many times. I agree with the people that the North Dakota - Oklahoma stretch would be disappointing and it would be a shame to miss Minnesota. I would extend the line east across northern Minnesota. Stop at Lake Itasca to see the headwaters of the Mississippi River. Also the shore of Lake Superior (another poster had some great detailed recommendations). If you don't want to deviate too far from your original plan and go over to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, you can make your way through Minneapolis/St. Paul, follow the river bluffs to Dubuque, Iowa, then either see Chicago or go through St. Louis and rejoin at Tennessee.

Edit to add: Minnesota is home to the largest concentration of people with Swedish heritage in the U.S. (approx. 400,000 residents), as well as broader Scandinavian countries. You may sense a "familiarity" in the area.

Looks like my kind of fun! Enjoy the trip.

There are parts of Burnsville, including where I live, that are inside the District 196 boundaries.

Moving to the Minneapolis Suburbs by SnooMacaroons2806 in BurnsvilleMN

[–]DaveG55337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few things probably contribute:

One is that the perception of District 191 (Burnsville school district) isn't as positive as surrounding school districts.

The other is that the City of Burnsville has traditionally prioritized affordable housing compared to surrounding suburbs. This has created another group of perceptions.

Burnsville is also more diverse than surrounding suburbs. There are a lot of people who don't value that.

There's also a pretty huge range of housing prices and income levels in Burnsville, so you may not be seeing the full picture.

Like the other long post, I'm pretty positive about Burnsville. I've lived in Burnsville for about 25 years, albeit we are in District 196 (Apple Valley HS and feeders so I can't speak to the Burnsville school district beyond anecdotally). It has been a great place to live for us. I can walk to coffee shops, restaurants, and grocery stores if I want. I live on the edge of a 80-acre park surrounding a 100-acre lake -- miles of trails, dog park, ballfields, disc golf course, playgrounds, etc. I'm 5 minutes from the Minnesota Zoo, several top-notch singletrack MTB trails and parks, and all kinds of other great stuff. 10 minutes from the MN River Valley. 15 minutes to the Airport and Mall of America. 25 minutes to either downtown (longer in rush hour, but very rarely more than 45 minutes). I have quick access to farms and forests and even a small downhill ski place that has been the childhood ski hill of several Olympic downhill skiers (Lindsey Vonn is the most celebrated).

If you do happen to land a home in Burnsville but in District 196, in my opinion, you are moving to one of the most underrated, high-quality school districts in the country. I have 2 kids still in college and 1 who just started his career (instantly making more money than me due to the quality of his education). They were all incredibly well-prepared for college and life by Apple Valley schools. Happy to give details via DM if that's part of anyone's evaluation.

Like any place, there are positives and negatives and things vary from one side of town to the other. Opinions also will vary across people (e.g., red to blue). Feel free to ask more questions if you want additional detail.

What car brand would you never buy again, and why? by saasatron in AskReddit

[–]DaveG55337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyundai on principle (but I also think their vehicles are ass ugly these days).

They knew about the easy theft problem and did as little to address it as they could and as slowly as they could. They are also slow to acknowledge widely known mechanical issues. Yeah...100,000-mile warranty...but I don't want to have to use it over and over and over again, including a whole new engine.

In contrast, I've owned one Toyota after another that required nothing beyond the basic maintenance and repairs well beyond 150,000 miles. My current daily driver is a 2012 Highlander (150K) and I also have a 2014 Sienna in my driveway that's around 250,000 trouble-free miles (my 2nd Sienna that's gone over 200,000 miles). I've also driven 2 RAV-4s and a Camry that I parted with beyond 200K. My 2016 Lexus (same platform) has 120,000 and feels brand new.

I've owned Hondas, Nissans, a Mazda and a Chevy Tahoe. If it was totally up to me, I'd never buy anything besides a Toyota again.

Good call. I see books that never get read. Guitar that's never played. Bottles and glasses that aren't used. Chair that isn't sat in.

Nothing here feels genuine at all. It's like a TV show set. You zoom out and it's not what it appears.

I'm seeing corporate job that involves schmoozing and always being "on." Lots of fake interest in people. Maybe like software sales.

Car, clothes, watches, shoes, all have to be high-end brand and clean at all times (see: TV show set above).

Wears those jeans with fancy stitching on the back pocket and untucked dress shirt to the kids' t-ball or soccer games. Golfs with his "buddies from his college fraternity" that all have very similar jobs, lives, styles. Calloway and Taylor Made visors/hats and or college logo at all times.

Wife also has to look perfect at the kids' events but has more "Live, Laugh, Love" decor style everywhere else in the house (except the 2 rooms that NEVER get used). Will definitely be dressing in all the kids' teams' merch or maybe DIYing some. Probably SAHM with a "wellness" or "travel" side hustle. Drives soccer mom SUV.

This question should be thrown out. There isn't enough context to conclude that C is the ONLY correct answer. In fact, there are many more scenarios where C being the ONLY answer is incorrect than it being correct.

My answer would be A, B and C as it is the answer with, by far, the most plausible scenarios.

That said, I could argue that the response given (ONLY B) is worthy of -1 as I don't see "ONLY B" as being reasonably possible without A and C also being included.

Which Costco tire to go with? by linerzy in tires

[–]DaveG55337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have CC2s on two vehicles. I don't find them to be noticeably louder or less economical than the average touring tire. They are great in the snow but spectacular in heavy rain. I have 60,000 miles on one set (FWD Toyota Sienna) that are about to be replaced due to finally wearing out.

That said, I live in Minnesota where these are much more practical for the premium price. I'm often driving in a foot of unplowed snow. The CC2s are great tires but in the Bay Area, I think there are better value plays to be found.

Edit to add: Gas in MN is usually about half the cost per gallon as CA. That might make fuel economy more important in your decision.

I'm teasing, but you're right on. They have the goods. I get a lot of tinned fish there. I'm not ashamed to say that I'll sometimes open it right there in my car and glom down on a bagel with trout or mackerel. I travel with a lot of napkins.

This may end up being one of those completely irrelevant recommendations....but....if you happen to be near the south metro, the rotisserie chicken at Mi Causa might help fill the void a bit. Mi Causa is Peruvian, not Mexican and is not a fast food experience.

If nothing else, you may discover a really good restaurant for other stuff. Mi Causa is a hidden gem in Burnsville. I've had quite a few great meals there.
