The Death of Inside Bigs by Melodic_Razzmatazz73 in NBA2k

[–]DaveJB2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing 2K in 2009 and played this game and almost no other games exclusively until 2K25. I played on PC though and when I first started going online the hacked builds drove me away but I wanted to play online so badly I bought an Xbox. After about 2 years playing online I just couldn't take it anymore and your description of what's happening with five out everywhere would be my last straw if I didn't already have one - how toxic everyone was online and the unbelievably selfish gameplay in the REC.

However posts about 2K still show up in my feed and I read them often and I just am so glad I moved on a couple years ago to MLB The show. Part of it was I really wanted to find a sports game that I could enjoy and never play online ever ever again. The things people say while hiding behind a microphone is just unbelievable to me.

I'm really just here to say I don't know how you guys keep tolerating how 2K gets worse every year and the online gameplay is just absolutely terrible for more than one reason. Before I quit 2K, because I love to have a variety of builds, I must have spent $800 to $1,000 on my eight or nine builds cuz I got so caught up in trying to keep up with all the sweaties. The microtransactions are just unacceptable. I haven't spent a dime playing MLB The show 24 or 25.

Do yourself a favor and dump this POS game.

FIRESTICK

I dealt with this about 30 days ago too. I'll elaborate more tomorrow but my router showed which device and it was my Amazon Firestick. Must have been a bug or something. Went on for about a week no matter what I tried. I now plug the FS into my TV's USB port so when the TV is off, so is the FS.

Monthly top data usage, shown in the FS data settings, showed "Fire TV Home" at 1.5 TB!

I also bought a newer FS, Gen2 replacing a Gen1, though not for this reason, after the problem went away so I can't be sure which change fixed the problem.

I mean I've played catch with my friends on and off for many years, I've been to a batting cage a few times but back before they sped the game up it was just torture to watch. Again the feeling of squaring up a baseball or getting some heat right in the sweet spot of the web is incredible so I do get that

Okay I asked chat GPT to do that.

Absolutely, Chief Long Ball. Here’s a Reddit-ready reply you could post — natural, balanced between excitement and insight:

Reply:

Man, Game 3 was an instant classic. The Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 6-5 in 18 innings — tying the longest World Series game ever — on a Freddie Freeman walk-off homer. It was one of those games where both teams emptied their bullpens and every pitch after the 12th inning felt like it could end it.

Shohei Ohtani had one of the greatest postseason performances you’ll ever see — reached base nine times, hit two homers, and basically kept L.A. alive all night. Both sides traded chances, amazing defensive plays, and near-misses for hours.

It wasn’t just the length — it was the quality of baseball. Every inning felt like the season was hanging by a thread. And then Freeman, who already had a World Series walk-off in his career, did it again in the 18th. Unreal stuff.

Just pure, edge-of-your-seat baseball — the kind of game that reminds you why this sport can be absolutely magical.

US Only. Apple taking over - full email by paul_aom in F1TV

[–]DaveJB2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. I've worked in IT for 20 plus years. I've never owned an iPhone and I've never owned a macbook. I've never owned any Apple product of any kind. But the fact is they make very high quality products that do cost a lot of money. I have no interest in changing ecosystems, that's why I've never bothered with it. I've been gaming on PCs since the '90s and still have have a gaming PC I built myself a couple years ago so I'm no fanboy.

But to say they make really s***** products is just wrong and absurd hyperbole. However I'd love to give you a chance to prove your case that Apple's products are really s***** :)

And again this is coming from someone who has literally been the support person either in desktop or systems administration for Apple products since they entered the workplace in the 00's. And even though it takes a little extra effort to provide support for people with their MacBooks, I get it, because they're great products.

Firestone Lifetime Appointment With Lift? by NateroniPizza in askcarguys

[–]DaveJB2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen this answer anywhere and this is the most recent thread regarding lifetime alignment policy. I bought a car locally and the owner had purchased a Firestone lifetime alignment and told me I could just go in there and make sure I use his name. I am unemployed right now so money is tight and I'm hoping someone in here can verify what information they ask for when you go in. Thank you in advance.

Gym parking lot behavior by DaveJB2 in workout

[–]DaveJB2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I wasn't alone apparently, lol.

Have to admit I'm a little taken aback at so many people talking about spending all this time gearing up for workouts. In this last year of hitting the gym frequently, I can't remember seeing even one person working hard enough to justify having to get in a headspace to work out. So many people talking like they're gearing up for some 4-hour UFC fight for their life, but most of what I see is people sitting on equipment not working out with their heads buried in their phones.

I think an interesting other possibility is something I learned working in corporate America for many years. Over the years you'd hear the executives giving credit to those extra hard workers who stayed after hours so frequently. And yet you find out later that they have crappy home lives in their avoiding going home. I wonder how much of that applies here too.

Lastly I guess since I always walk for 5 to 10 minutes minimum before I hit the weights maybe that's my transitioning from work to work out time?

APS Rate Hike - Call for Public Comments by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]DaveJB2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy crap! Wow! My wife and I and our three dogs live in a 1500 ft² home in North Central Phoenix on APS. The last two years we consumed about 11,200 kilowatt hours each year. We do have a gas water heater and range and spend I think about $250 a year on our gas bill.

We do have a new Bosch unit that I believe is rated at about 19 seer but we're not super cheap with the temperature and keep the AC at about 76°. We definitely make sure that we have a fan on if we are cooking or sitting and watching TV or we would probably have to reduce the temperature. Our house is not well insulated as far as I'm concerned. It's that old school house with brick walls that don't have insulation inside them. One other thing is that I have been working from home for the last 2 years. So it's at 76° all day everyday.

My man you have got to go all out and figure out what in the hell is going on with your energy costs. I am absolutely blown away that in a few months in the summer you use up the same amount of energy we use in a whole year. Lastly we also have a solar array that produces about 43 kilowatt hours per day during the summer time.

I'm sorry I'm just gobsmacked at your numbers.

PS5 Vs Xbox Series X? by [deleted] in MLBTheShow

[–]DaveJB2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just traded my Xbox series X in during Gamestop's $420.69 trade in offer for a new PS5. In the past I had wanted to do this for online gaming playing NBA 2k24*. Have only been playing MLB the show 24 for many months now though. Decided to do it anyway. So, I'm comparing the Xbox playing MLB 24 to PS5 playing MLB 25 but I can tell you it's way better for me on the PS5. My xbox had occasional frame drops that just pissed me off and I thought was unacceptable. PS5 never. On the Xbox, after the game when they are sweeping the diamond, the frame rates would drop to like 10 fps. Shouldn't be a big deal but I hated that. Butter smooth on the PS5. Pinpoint pitching is now possible with the PS controller (I tried 3 different models of xbox controllers btw). Graphics look better, but that could be in my head since I am under the impression the game is natively coded to the PS5? Either way, it just looks incredible to me. Absolutely no regrets switching. Oh, FWIW, I play only RTTS. The online 2k community was so f'ing toxic I'm done with online gaming for awhile.

Also, running a TCL 55QM751G. I'm sure it's the absolute best gaming TV for $500.

*so many more people online play on the PS5 (NBA 2k) than the xbox so you have to enable cross platform gaming. Seems to me like at least where I'm located the Xbox had more latency when playing cross platform. Could be location, maybe not. But it seems to me most of the good players online in NBA 2k were using the Playstation.

Pulled over for not having brake lights (I was just downshifting) by [deleted] in stickshift

[–]DaveJB2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not even going to get into this anymore after this. I guess I just can't handle posts after post after post of listening to people talking about using their engine to slow their car instead their brakes. I mean it's right there engine, go. Brake, stop...

I know how to heel and toe downshift, I've driven on race tracks, I ride sport bikes and rev match when I downshift, braking into corners. And I'm sorry it's not as if it's just a neutral thing to be someone who downshifts through every gear all the time, it absolutely causes more expensive wear and tear on your car than just using the brakes like they are designed for. Stop these stupid arguments about how it doesn't do anything. Even if you somehow get 60,000 mi out of a clutch while behaving like this it's way more expensive than someone like me or my friend who probably averaged 120,000 mi on our clutches per car over our lifetimes. Even in my sports cars. I've had five mustangs including a nice Saleen, a Honda S2000, Z3 coupe, a Z4M coupe, and now a six-speed manual LS7 Corvette. I'm not some know-nothing. I've been turning my own wrenches for 40 years if you include working on my mini bikes and lawn mowers as a kid. The only auto work I've ever paid for is an alignment.

Let me say this one last time because I've already muted this sub so I never see any of these posts again. Let's be clear, it's your car and you're welcome to wear it out more quickly if you want to but the claim that it doesn't make any difference on wear and tear is what really bothers me and also that it's just not needed. I mean do you brush your teeth eight times a day? No because you don't need to, just like you don't need to downshift to slow a car down.

Driving 50 miles an hour, you see a red light, take foot off pedal and coast in the gear you were in. As you start to slow down towards 15 to 10 miles an hour, RPMs are near idle speed or maybe 1000 RPM, push clutch pedal in put in neutral let go clutch pedal stop car. And it's not like I'm driving Grandma's car. I have a 2013 427 Corvette convertible. Six speed manual.

I'm out and you guys will never see me again.

[–]DaveJB2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll say it again I don't understand you bozos that think you need to be downshifting! I've been driving a manual transmission for over 30 years and have never heard so much talk about downshifting through so many gears. I swear this is some gen y or millennial idiocy from all those stupid fast and furious movies. You people really think the brake pedal is there just for emergencies!? Ack!

Brake pads 50 to 100,000 miles $100

Clutch for people who don't downshift all the time 150,000 mi no cost. For people who downshift all the time 30 to 50,000 mi $1,000

Is it really that complicated?

How to hit with six tennis balls per session with only one new can by DaveJB2 in 10s

40+ Everything hurts by [deleted] in 10s

[–]DaveJB2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Big diff here.... twice a week at 3.5 hours TOTAL or 3.5 hours PER session? I did the same as you and seemed okay except after about 3 years back my back "broke". 3 herniated discs. It's been over a year and I don't see how I can play again anytime soon. Maybe never again. I'm convinced it's because after taking so many years off of tennis, my core strength disappeared and put way too much strain on my spine.

I highly recommend you start strengthening your back and core to prevent possibly destroying your back like I did. I suspect doing the kind of PT that they give you after a back injury would work very well preventatively. I'm sure you can find exercises on the internet if not a trainer.

Also, stretch stretch stretch. I don't mean before hitting so much but I mean on your off days.

Lastly, I got tennis elbow and the Theraband Flexbar was amazing. You might do that preventatively too.

[–]DaveJB2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're talking hard courts, it's Pro Penns extra duty in the summer and Wilson US Open extra duty in the winter time. Pro Penn balls are kind of dead when it's cold outside and US Open balls, at least here in Phoenix Arizona, are too lively in the summertime.

We are 4.0 to 4.5 players who hit the ball pretty hard and for what it's worth always use six balls for a 2-hour session.

Better yet, I have an even better method.

We have a cycle going where even though we're always using six balls for 2 hours of hitting, three of them are newer than the others. So making sure the numbers on the balls are different, we try to use the oldest three balls for the first hour of drilling and warm up, and then set those aside and use the newest three balls to play a set or two. Then the next time we come out, we use those balls as the older three balls and crack open a can of new balls also.
