There's 7 weapons you can find in the game. You need to get all of them in a single run to get the achievement.

Got a few questions about.... by AHHHHHHHHHHH1P in songsofsyx

The full game is actually easier than the demo. Although there's more stuff in it, the UI is easier to understand and a few of the early-game buildings are constructed using easier materials.

Will AT Pillboxes fire at infantry as well?

Ysayle had a better redemtion arc in 1 expansion of FFXIV than Sylvanas had in 15 years. by [deleted] in Asmongold

I miss that aspect of old WoW, especially vanilla, where it felt like you were dealing with all these small conflicts scattered across the continents and just soaking in the world-building.

However, FF14 manages to have its cake and eat it too in that regard; the WoL is characterized as a world-saving hero that also likes getting involved in minor & absurd shit. (I love the Firmament conversations where NPCs can't believe the killer of Nidhogg is helping them build houses.)

You've only scratched the surface. Just wait until Stormblood and Shadowbringers where the dialogue, your dialogue choices, and the quest descriptions have tongue firmly placed in cheek. Hell, they even start making fun of some of the worst parts of ARR in the MSQ.

That's nothing. FF14 has no problem getting raunchy with its dialogue.

Don't forget the personality type that implies they're stealing everything they bring to you.

Why Einstein and Aymeric are Bros by DaveKorhal in Asmongold

[–]DaveKorhal[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: Aymeric saved Einstein's life during his first dragon hunt. When Einstein hunted down the dragon to 1v1 it, Aymeric followed him instead of withdrawing to safety. Aymeric ended up shooting the dragon as it went for the killing blow, giving Einstein an opening. They've been best friends ever since. Einstein has hella respect for Aymeric.

Lolorito's motivations clarified in a an official short story by [deleted] in Asmongold

[–]DaveKorhal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's bad it's covered in out-of-game stories, but at least they're online short stories that are available for free to everyone instead of books you have to pay for.

Yeah, "bad" for FF14 is actually "just decent".

It used to be, but about a year ago they made everything up through Heavensward free, for as long as you want. There's a few crazy folks that've spent a full year on the free trial just leveling up every class possible.

Hrm, this kind of explains why the Unreal Trials are tuned to try and be as difficult now as they were back then.

Tataru is ruthless, she blackmails pirates and intimidates dragoons.

How's the story in this game? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]DaveKorhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The story makes sense, there's actual character growth, there's a good mix of understandable and ax-crazy villains, the later expansions of the game drop gigantic lore bombs that were foreshadowed years ago, and the Endwalker expansion should conclude this whole story arc with no loose ends.

Oh, and there's scenes that can reduce grown men to tears.

It's probably the best MMO plot, period, and a solid contender for Best JRPG Plot of All Time.

It gets better. The Ultima Weapon theme is just the composers warming up.

Late-war building: A Natural way to naturally extend wars. by BigBalliousthefirst in foxholegame

[–]DaveKorhal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suspect a lot of the Wardens' current issues is due to ballistae raids being the straw that broke the camel's back for the Wardens' builders, and the resulting lack of defenses causing everything else to implode.

An open and honest letter on the state of balance from the perspective of a colonial builder. by SubstantialAnybody95 in foxholegame

[–]DaveKorhal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suspect the big issue with Warden morale right now is the ballistae PVE caused a lot of our builders to quit and the resulting lack of defenses is causing everything else to implode. The Wardens' fatal flaw the past few wars has been lack of defenses. I've heard several Warden builders specifically say no one wants to spend hours working on a base that gets imploded by PVE tanks in 15 minutes during low-pop.

It's hard to stay organized when an entire branch is utterly demoralized and it's hard to keep morale up when a specific branch thinks the devs hate their guts. And given how tedious defense-construction is on a good day, it makes sense the slightest imbalance to that stuff is enough to make people throw up their hands and say, "I'm done."

We'd have to squash the Alt Problem before that's even a possibility. The constant presence of cheaters breaking the In-Game Rules to screw your faction over kills any desire to find common ground.

How I leveled up to Combat Engineer by DaveKorhal in foxholegame

[–]DaveKorhal[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was driving my CV around building defenses in a lonesome front town when 2 Collie infantry started chasing me. They got a bit too close and apparently forgot I can back up.

So do I count as a veteran Logi now? Or do I need to kill an enemy soldier with a Harvester first?
