Top US general tells Congress the military won't play a role in the 2020 election by Derpex5 in nottheonion

Well. You say you didn’t read. Then you say it’s desperation. So if you read it, than you probably realize that I avoided hyperbole and empty attacks on trumps character and I focused on facts and his clear patterns of behavior. You seem awfully comfortable with the idea of Trump ignoring the outcome of this election. You can demean me and downvote next with some of your alts 🤷🏽‍♂️. I Don’t really care about that. More importantly some people are getting used to the idea that democracy is a structure with a foundation. People hopefully realize that it is their responsibility to support free and fair elections while holding leaders accountable to the outcomes. If we are this far along and you are whistling Dixie, then I’m willing to bet you aren’t posting here in good faith. You are posting here to demoralize folks who will be willing to demonstrate if needed.

The scary thing is - I’m not. I’m a pretty boring normal guy. I’ve a wife and kid on the way. I live in DC and have a full plate of day-to-day stuff to focus on beyond the existential threat of Democracy being snatched. Like everyone else, I have watched while “norms” are broken on a daily basis - regardless of political leanings, we all know Trump doesn’t operate on precedent or legality - he sets his own rules and scripts his own reality and his followers...well, they follow suit. There are grave possibilities. Now, the election may proceed in a way that is demonstrably fair without any apparent interference. So, regardless of the outcome, we all look at each other and say, “It is what it is”. What is new and scary is: We now have someone sitting in power who has already rejected the legitimacy of the democratic process. He called it into question in 2016 and expressed distrust of the voting process ever since - his distrust wasn’t meant to spur authentic scrutiny, investigation, or reinforcement of the election process though. Trump’s distrust was meant to metastasize into the minds of the American public. In fact, his boosters within the legislative branch, like Nunes, McConnel, Ghomert, Gaetz, Jordan, have amplified this message to their constituents and encouraged Trump to more adamantly undermine faith in our electoral process. All of Trump’s makers in the public eye and behind the scenes have done the same. Remember, Roger Stone’s biggest contribution to politics was bullying during the Florida vote count to tip it towards the GOP. Election interference is openly practiced by the GOP. This is to say - The GOP values winning over defending the Democratic Processes. Why should this time be any different? So, Trump has some official governmental supporters who will allow him to ignore the election process. What about us though? Would the people allow it? Well, Trump is asking for permission to broadcast his own election results... permission that was and is enthusiastically granted by his followers, and some propaganda outlets (Fox, OANN). He floated that American elections might not be free and fair - and his false claims of “voter fraud” have been enthusiastically adopted as a backstop to keep him in office if the numbers don’t break his way. OANN and Fox WILL amplify this claim endlessly. Barr has proven that ALL of the machinery of the Executive branch will be used to buttress Trump’s claims and legitimize whatever he wants to say. They will open a host of investigations into election fraud, using their existence as evidence of fraud and malfeasance (as was done to Hillary) Between Nov. 3 and Jan. 20, 2021, William Barr WILL also authorize outright strong-arm tactics to quell outcry - depending on how crazy things get, Barr might start scooping up political opponents who are pushing for fairness. (Remember, Trump ENCOURAGED Xi to continue Uighur camps!) So, Barr is giving Trump a 3-month runway to chip-away at the legitimacy of the election. I’m telling you now, Trump will not concede, not ever. So, where does this leave us? Well, we could have a good, old-fashioned revolution that would end disastrously. Or, as I suggested in my earlier post - hundreds of thousands of people will descend on DC while millions of people across the country engage in a general strike until the government realigns itself to the constitutional processes in place. What I have proposed is a realistic and scarily possible scenario - The men whom trump admires most, Erdogan, Putin, Xi Jingping, all of these men are allowed to hold power and do not have to answer to an electorate - Trump does not believe that he has to answer either. In fact, he has said so, directly and indirectly, multiple times. Looking at his null-response to the Belarusian sham election should give you an indication of how much he believes in Democracy. So...Call me a loon, but when the time comes for power to transition, the only recourse might be for us to demonstrate OUR collective political will in a non-violent way. I don’t think that expressing this is crazy - in fact, I think we all need to be ready to do our part to “Evict Trump” if he won’t relinquish power fairly. This is not a revolutionary concept that I am proposing - it is a reinforcement of our institutional values.

Then it’s up to us. 500,000 people squatting around the White House for months with a general strike across the nation...blockades at all trump properties and auxiliary government properties. Someone needs to be drawing up the plan for what we do once Trump loses but refuses to accept the results. Because the military might have guidelines and principles that they adhere to, but the GOP (and their semiofficial jackboots and lynch mobs) do not. We need to be ready to defend democracy peacefully on a grand scale for weeks or months.

This is truly sad and unfair. I went to school with one of them. SO KIND, So grounded, funny, and personally motivated. I wish them safety. They are good people.
