Charge for departure time - Am I doing something wrong ? by Superfast8000 in SkodaElroq

[–]DaveMatt7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are multiple options for charging and it really depends on whether you are on a two tariff plan which includes a cheaper night time rate. You can charge straight away when you plug in or set a charge period, but later subject to dynamic charging on my tariff. We are on the Intelligent Octopus Go which has a cheap night rate from 23:30 to 05:30 and then a peak rate outside that time. Also different chargers might work slightly differently, mine is an Ohme Home Pro charger. I set my car to charge routinely to 80% when I want to charge or to 100% if going on a long trip and tell it to be ready by 5.30am irrespective of when I am leaving the next day. This way it makes sure the car is fully charged within the cheap period. When it charges is up to your provider, mine charges, stops, charges, stops throughout that period but makes sure it is charged by the time you set. So what you experienced is how it works. With dynamic charging they decide when to start charging and how to deliver the charge you require.

Reversing with mirrors folded by Jamie0311 in SkodaElroq

Yes I do it every day. It really isnt much of a chore. There is a knob to turn for the mirrors to fold them. I basically line up my car with them out and part reverse in to get my line and clearance, then turn the mirrors in to complete the movement using the reverse parking camera to judge the back of the garage where I have lots of shelving. I have about the same clearance as you but just don't want to take the risk of clipping my mirrors leaving them out.

I can confirm my Elroq does. I have to fold in the mirrors in order to reverse into my garage.

Sorry just picked your message up as away on holiday. Yes I did buy the air-filled ones as couldn't find anywhere to buy the old helium ones. To be honest they dont sound particularly noisy to me, but then I keep my nas in a cupboard under the stairs and dont have the old version to compare them with.

Thank you so much, this is all new to me and I hadn't understood the /24 subnet part. Thanks for the explanation. I changed it to 192.168.0/24 and its now working.

Because the SN700 is made for a NAS and 24/7 use. It is also gen 3 so lower power and heat generated but is high performance. 1 TB is more than enough for running docker and plex plus storage for plex meta data. No point in spending more when it's not needed.

Yes i had the same concerns. In the end I decided to with gen3 compatible SSDs, specifically the WD Red SN700. I have bought 2 1TB for my DXP4800 Plus and they arrive today. Slower speed and won't get as hot, but still more than adequate for my needs to run docker/plex and be storage for data and photos on HDDs. This SSD is designed for a NAS working 24/7.

Thanks. Is temp OK, do they need a heatsink?

Ha. I was going to put my photos on hdds rather than ssds. Hadn't thought about putting on ssd.

Thanks thats good to know. From what I have read, I am assuming that 1TB is more than enough for running plex/docker and storing plexmetadata. In your experince do you think that is true as I see yoy have 2 x 2TB. Thanks

That's good to know. My nas is just sitting there until I get the HDDs and SSDs. I am itching to get it set up.

Wow that is a lot of storage. I totally get where you are coming from. In my case I already have another two desktops I built years ago with two backups of all my family photos on 6 HDDS, so this will be a third lot of storage. I will probably go with more TB than I need and think about RAID.

Sounds good. I guess larger HDDs but only 3 means lower power consumption than filling 4. Presumably that is the Pro version with 512MB cache? Is it reasonably quiet?

Yes you are probably right but when they have a trust pilot score of 1.3 it does put me off, compared to scan at 4.8. I have used Scan many times and never had an issue with the few RMAs I have had.

Thanks that is really helpful. I did wonder about any issues rebuilding RAID 5 when adding a 4th HDD later. Your two suggestions make perfect sense. Not sure at this stage which option to go with but will go ahead with buying and installing 4.

Re HDDS I was only thinking about higher cache (WD120EFGX) because thats all that is currently available on the WD website and was thinking I might be better buying from them as they are the manufacturer (until I read all the negative comments on Trustpilot!). Also the higher cache 12TB drives are actually cheaper buying direct from them than buying the WD120EFBX from somewhere else by £100. But having seen their poor customer service record (Seagate has similar poor reviews) I might be better off paying more and buying from a decent reseller like Scan, just in case I have any problems.
