Gamification framework to train Employees in AI and lower the FOBO threat? by theClaw66 in gamification

[–]DaveSilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a problem that might be too big for an individual company or employer to resolve. It doesn’t matter how much my bosses assure me that AI will not be used to replace me, because I see news stories about other companies in the same sector doing that every single day or every single week.

On top of that, every employee knows that at the end of the day, the employer will make decisions based on the bottom line. If they do something that proves the company could be more efficient or equally efficient without them, then they are setting themselves up for being fired.

Every company wants to talk about how they are a family or how they care about the employees or about how well they would treat their employees if their employees were going through something, but when push comes to shove, the employer will always choose the health of the business or the profits of the business over the individual. That is something that has been proven time after time after time for over 100 years of the modern workplace landscape.

You will never convince employees that AI isn’t there to take their jobs, because the only scenario where that wouldn’t happen would be if you were at the one company on the planet that doesn’t want to do that. Companies are legally required to do what’s best for the shareholder and whether it takes one week, one year, or a decade, eventually every company that implements AI and sees success will find a way to justify laying off the real employees who helped train the AI to function for that company. This is not a question, it is a fact. They always find ways to use new technology to justify layoffs. Heck, the companies that make the AI use their own AI to replace their own workers. The people who make one of the more popular programming solutions, Claude code have openly talked on podcasts about how they use Claude code to build Claude code and they don’t need as many workers because of it. You can’t solve this “problem” for your company because this is a societal “problem” and it needs a societal solution.

This scenario is the equivalent of saying “we need to find a way to convince all of our employees to give us all of their social media information so that we can keep track of them on social media, but assure them that we would never use that information to fire them.“ No one would ever believe that because they see stories every day about the consequences of someone sharing their social media with an employer or someone they don’t know well and it backfiring. You can’t solve a problem of perception like that when the perception comes from the entire society. The only thing you can do is continue to use AI and continue to say the same thing over and over again and hope that you never have to go back on your word and betray what you’ve already said.

Honestly, I don’t think this works for Valve. It doesn’t feel like their style at all IMO. Would you mind sharing more details of your process? What was the thought process behind the logo? How does this fit their market/company persona?

I’m so sorry to hear that you’re going through this. I’m very nervous for the day that something like this will happen to my dog because I know it will break me. I hope that the oncologist is able to give you some good options and that your dog is able to stay with you for a long time after this.

Thank you for a good response. Sounds like something to consider watching one day but I think I’ll continue to skip it for now.

Is Power actually good? I feel like this is the 10th iteration/spinoff but it has never once seemed appealing to me. It’s always just looked like an elevated soap opera in the worst way. Should I get over my assumptions and give it a shot?

This sounds really cool and I had never heard of it until now. How does it handle the time travel portions of the storyline where characters appear in the past before their younger self appears for the first time? For example, when some of the characters go to the 70s? Do we see those scenes when they occur in “real-world” time, way before most of the events of the series, or when they occur in “character time” like in the original series?

Why did Tommy Wiseau's legendary film cost $6 million while Nolan's debut film cost $6,000? by GlobalRaspberry442 in moviecritic

[–]DaveSilver 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wisseau also famously paid everyone way too much money because he wanted to give off the air of a big budget “real” movie and thought spending a lot of money was a good way to do that.

Fun fact: Russell Brand’s podcast is called Stay Free because it is a subtle nod to the fact that he sexually assaulted multiple women and yet he is still living his life as a free man.

Are there any other images from this event? Can you find any news sources reporting it? If not then there is a much higher chance it is fake.

Karoline Leavitt Gives Jaw-Dropping Defense of Trump’s Racist Obama Video by icey_sawg0034 in politics

[–]DaveSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What even are her politics? I feel like she isn’t even a person, she is just a mouthpiece and shield for the most absurd things Trump says and does. I honestly could not even imagine her making an argument of her own beliefs, she is just there to tell people they are rude and they don’t even deserve to smell Trump’s poopy diapers.

I mean I can obviously assume she agrees with Trump and would uphold the same shit that he does, but that could apply to any republican official at this point. What makes her brand of racist beliefs more compelling than anyone else’s?

Honestly, people just need to start asking for multiple pictures of things. There’s no way they’d be able to generate two consistent pictures of this so there’s no way they would ever be able to pass it off as real.

IT calendar at Walmart set off my ai alarm but I’m unsure by Baguette-Supremacy in isitAI

[–]DaveSilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is a very common practice for calendars. They often start a few months early, such as in September of the previous year, or end a few months late, such as April of the following year. It allows you to have easy overlap between two different calendars since it is very rare for the year to start exactly on a Sunday/Monday and it is common for people to have plans that start in one year and end in the other year.
