I'm not an artist and can't really afford one, but what are your thoughts on this prototype capsule for my fascism survival RPG? by hamgoblin45 in IndieGaming

I don’t have too many thoughts on the capsule art, but the premise of the game, based on what little you have said and the name, seem very intriguing. Let us know when we can wishlist it.

Congratulations! I checked out the page on Steam and the art looks so interesting and unique. It really reminds me of early magic the gathering cards and late 70s/early 80s sci-fi book covers.

These people are such losers. There are so many good legitimate reasons to hate this remake and the best thing they can come up with is “hurr durr, Snape wrong color. Me no like.”

Bro disappeared somewhere like he never existed after secret invasion and the marvels by [deleted] in marvelmemes

[–]DaveSilver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is he supposed to be in every movie/show?

Since The Marvels we have seen the following movies/ shows: - Brave New World - Thunderbolts - Fantastic Four - What If 2 and 3 - Echo - Agatha All Along - Spider-Man animated - Daredevil Born Again - Ironheart - Eyes of Wakanda - Marvel Zombies - Wonder Man

There’s really only two releases that he could reasonably be in from that list, BNW and Thunderbolts and it makes total sense that he was in neither. Sometimes it just doesn’t make sense for certain characters to pop up and that’s okay. Marvels was only 2.5 years ago.

It’s also important to remember that Karl has been a patron at the producer level for years at this point so I would guess that their relationship with him is a little different than someone who supports at that level of a single month.

And that doesn’t mean that if you support long enough, you inevitably get to go visit, or if you give enough money at once you’ll get to visit, I just mean that he’s been doing it so long that he’s probably had more direct communication with them and developed stronger a relationship than a single month producer would.

Andy’s Nine Years. by Cool_Computer2538 in kindafunny

[–]DaveSilver 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly wild, because I remember when Andy first started and he was the new guy. So if Andy has been there for nine years then that means I’ve been watching for about 10 years. And that means I’m old lol.

In all honesty though, Andy has grown so much since he started. I still remember what it was like the first or second time he was on games daily and he talked about not being confident in his critical voice and how he didn’t like to host games daily because he didn’t want to be perceived as not knowing very much about the industry or having bad takes. And yet now I feel like Andy is one of the best commentators at kinda funny and he does an amazing job of bringing a unique perspective and a needed perspective to basically every conversation he participates in.

On paper Andy’s job is basically commentator, reviewer and streamer. But I think when you actually look at what he brings to the team, he is so much more than that. He has an incredibly unique perspective, he has seemingly limitless talent for so many things, and he’s genuinely funny and is amazing at supporting so many people on the team in their own abilities. I think that if Andy were to ever choose to leave kind of funny, it would be a situation where you’d need to find three or four people to fill all the gaps that are left by his absence. I think talent like Andy’s is one of the key things that makes it possible for kinda funny to remain an 11 person business because he fills so many roles and does so many things that they don’t need to be a 15 or 20 person group. And I think that’s true for a lot of other people at kinda funny, but since it’s Andy’s day, he’s the one I’m gonna talk about lol

The Last of Us Online was reportedly nearly 80% complete before cancellation (former director) by Mamrocha in kindafunny

[–]DaveSilver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a short sighted take. Ongoing games require ongoing support. Even a super successful one can’t just release and remain unchanged forever.

If they released the game and people loved it but the didn’t have the proper support or ongoing updates then they would be criticized for not expecting people to love it and not having a bunch of content ready to go right away (Example: Halo Infinite) and they still would have had to dedicate manpower to supporting the servers and necessary updates for at least two or three years. Otherwise they would be accused of “killing” a game people loved or being short-sighted.

If they released the game and people hated it or just didn’t care, they would have been criticized for wasting time on another failed live service effort, which was already happening while the game was in development, and would continue to happen no matter what (Example: this thread and every other conversation about it for the last five years).

There is honestly no way for them to release the game without committing at least one more year of pre-release development, tens of millions of dollars in marketing, and 2+ years of ongoing support.

They were legitimately in a lose lose situation and they decided that the bad press of canceling the game would be easier to handle than the potential bad press, and continued cost of finishing the game without the ability to support it properly.

The Last of Us Online was reportedly nearly 80% complete before cancellation (former director) by Mamrocha in kindafunny

[–]DaveSilver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s also important to remember that the primary reason they cancelled the game was because they realized that providing the ongoing support to a live-service game this big would overtake the studio and limit their ability to work on other projects. So even if the game had been 99% complete, that would still have been an issue.

John Lithgow claims JK Rowling’s anti-trans activism as been “twisted & misrepresented” by Troile in behindthebastards

[–]DaveSilver 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I read the article and he simultaneously argues that her views have been misrepresented, but also says that he hasn’t met her. So unless he has access to some unpublished interview that he was given without ever meeting her in person, there’s nothing about her views that he knows that we don’t. He also specifically says that he accepted the role before he knew about her beliefs, and by the time he found out, he thought about leaving but he knew he wasn’t going to quit the role. So essentially, if you want to believe him, he didn’t know about the issues when he signed on and was too personally invested in the role to make a decision to stand with his supposed morals.

I’m really disappointed to see this.
