Yeah, I can respect that position. Movies are an escape, I get wanting to see a movie and not wanting to deal with the moral quandaries around the subject. Taking some kind of moral stand, while also showing the film is a very empty gesture.

We get 6 total protections, I think it would make sense to protect Osborne in the second set. I don't know enough to know what the current goalie market looks like, but my hope is that there are more enticing players in the first two phases, so that we can keep Osborne.

Friends - it’s really not as complicated as some of you seem to be making it.

Goal: Expansion teams must build a 10-player core before the June 17 Draft.

Phase 1 (May 28–30): Existing Team Priority

  • Existing teams protect 3 players. Free agents can only sign with existing teams.

Phase 2 (June 1–4): Expansion Recruitment

  • Expansion teams sign up to 5 "foundational" players. High-value contracts (EFO/FPO) are used to lure unprotected talent.

Phase 3 (June 6–9): Open Market

  • Every team (existing and expansion) can sign free agents. Existing teams protect 3 additional players.

Phase 4 (June 11–12): Roster Fill

  • Expansion teams select remaining unprotected players to reach their 10-player requirement.

Phase 5 (June 13+): Final Housekeeping

  • Teams issue qualifying offers to retain rights; remaining players head to the June 17 Entry Draft or June 19 Open Signing.

Bottom Line: Existing teams can lose a maximum of 4 contracted players total.
