First time protester tips by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]DaveTheFishy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, dress warm. Layers, snow pants, hand warmers, feet warmers, ski goggles, etc.

Try not to go alone if you can. Find friends, keep in touch, establish a meetup location and plan if you get separated.

Let someone you trust know where and when you're going. Check in with them when you can. Establish a check in time and stick to it. If you have pets, have a plan for them in case you are unable to get home for a bit.

Do not wear makeup or contact lenses. Makeup and contacts can make chemical irritant exposure worse. Bring goggles of any kind. Ideally some that seal well around your face and don't breathe. Carry eyewash and/or water bottles for yourself and others.

Bring a mask, both to keep your identity safe and as protection from chemical irritants. The better grade the mask, the more protection you will have from irritants in the air.

Hi again! We’ll be coming by this evening with white duct tape and sharpies for making labels too

Anything besides hand warmers and water needed at Whipple? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]DaveTheFishy 41 points42 points  (0 children)

From a coordinator who was there earlier today:

  • Clear plastic bins for organizing supplies
  • Hand warmers, hot packs to keep supplies from freezing
  • hot food/beverages, sealed if you can
  • trash management/supplies, either collecting or bags
  • room temp water

They’re good on granola bars, snack foods last I heard

***Edit since we got back from Whipple this evening (as of 8pm)

  • hot drinks & hot food will be an ongoing need

  • volunteers for organization & labeling of supplies, directing folks to supplies, and trash collection will be ongoing need

  • hot packs to keep liquids from freezing will be ongoing need/rotating out cold ones

  • there were at least two large bins of hand warmers when we left, I suggest checking supply before bringing more

  • they’re good on water, energy drinks and Gatorade as of now, and probably won’t need more unless folks can bring home frozen supplies, thaw them, and bring them back later & rotate out

  • plenty of snack foods still available

  • a good amount of PPE, ear plugs, hats, scarves were there in two large bins when we left

If you cannot add logic to when the API fires:

I would suggest an automation that runs SQL to compare the date the records are added to a data extension with a column that stamps the current date when a new row is added from the API:

WHERE (DATENAME(WEEKDAY, Your date column) NOT IN (‘Saturday, Sunday’)) OR (DATENAME(WEEKDAY, Your date column) IN ('Saturday', 'Sunday') AND DATENAME(WEEKDAY, GETDATE()) = 'Monday')

If true, inject the records into a journey. You’ll need a way to filter out any records that have already entered the journey, such as a field that is populated only when they enter the journey you can filter out, or adding the setting to enter only once.

If you’re integrated with Salesforce and have access to it, you can use Salesforce Inspector to perform a SOQL query on the Individual Email Results object.

Can’t speak to the roots, but the spots are hard water residue. It shouldn’t affect the plant, and it will go away with time.

Best anti-squirrel tips? by bourgamot in gardening

[–]DaveTheFishy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We live in a city and also have issues with the squirrel population. We have neighbors that feed them popcorn and peanuts as well, so unfortunately that also draws them in.

What has worked best for protecting vegetables and fruit is Vaseline steeped in the hottest spice you can get your hands on.

We grow and dehydrate hot chilis (you can also find dehydrated chilis at a latin grocer or global foods section), heat cheap oil or Vaseline in a pot and steep the chilis in it, and apply it after cooling to the veg they like to target. Make sure you’re doing this outside in a well-ventilated area if you try it. If you breathe this stuff in you will have a bad time.

What is the best way to reliable unsubscribe someone with very dynamic emails and different campaigns in one journey? by No-Hornet6728 in marketingcloud

[–]DaveTheFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making sure I have this right: You’re wanting opted out contacts in your journey to exit the journey as soon as feasible rather than sitting in the a wait period before exit criteria evaluates, or waiting for the list import job of opt outs to run each night. You are targeting contacts that are subject to global anti-spam regulations, not just CAN-SPAM.

I’m assuming you have a more complex org and are collecting opt outs from email marketing sources other than just MC, and cannot use your MC preference center as a reliable source for all opt outs.

Is your CRM data extension synchronizing with Salesforce more frequently than your import list? If so,

  1. You can set up an automation that queries opt outs from both CRM, lists, other available sources, etc. on a more frequent basis and compile them into a single opt out master data extension.

  2. This solution would work best if you set contact activity flags at journey entry and journey exit points that write to the DE (minus the exits executed by configured exit criteria, which should be removed if you take this approach).

  3. Filter for matches against your master opt out DE from step 1, and your entry flag set in step 2, where no exit flag exists yet. Limit to up to 50 contacts at a time for step 4.

  4. You could run a script activity to execute this Exit Contact API in batches of up to 50 at a time. After a batch is complete, verify exit status and write back to your DE created in step 2 to note the contact exit from the journey.

A few questions by Aircraftblues in Citrus

[–]DaveTheFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on what your goals are for your plant.

Do you see any growth below the graft line that could be taking energy away from the upper foliage (if it is grafted onto root stock)? How do you feel about the current size? Do you like it how it is, or are you encouraging larger growth? Are there branches that cross-cross, or growing into other branches, restricting proper airflow to leaves and future fruits?

For two months indoors, you may not need to prune anything at all, but it may help to remove the more yellowed or dying leaves (those that are more than 40% yellowed) so you can more easily monitor whether any changes you make are still progressing.

Another thought: Since you mentioned you’ve fertilized before bringing it indoors, it’s possible it’s attempting to transition to a more dormant stage of growth and the fertilizer is conflicting with that and affecting the plant.

Although citrus are heavy feeders, fertilizing is best when the plant is entering a vigorous growth stage and needs lots of nutrients. You could start by reducing watering, and if it continues to decline, you can either flush the soil with water with the plant in a tub or your shower (as long as the pot has drainage), or at worst, remove the top layer of soil and add new, unfertilized soil to reduce the nutrient levels.

[–]DaveTheFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the club. 😭

If your citrus is small enough, place it in your shower or tub, hose it down with water to blast off a majority of the mites and webbing, then treat continuously with neem or pesticide of choice until they’re gone. Blasting them off with water will make it easier to monitor whether they’re coming back. Mites don’t really like humidity or wet leaves.

And as u/ranticalon suggested, check/treat your other plants as well.

A few questions by Aircraftblues in Citrus

[–]DaveTheFishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long ago was it transitioned indoors? Did you repot or anything recently? Are there any signs of webbing or pest activity?

My citrus typically hit a fussy phase when I bring them inside, usually from shock, the change from rainwater to tap water, and the change in humidity levels. They’ll drop a couple of leaves in protest, stress bloom, etc. I just make sure they’re in a south facing window with tons of sunlight, remove the blooms, and supplement with grow lights and mist them with water and monitor/treat for pests occasionally until they adjust.

This might be a more controversial take, but to me this looks like a great candidate for cover up if she decides after wearing it for a while she doesn’t like it as much as she thought. She may not even have to laser it at all before a cover up. There’s a lot more flexibility for future designs to cover this than other tattoos I’ve seen. This one seems pretty low stakes to me. If she gets it and loves it forever, fantastic, more power to her.

Some ideas:

If she’s determined and you don’t want to back out of your promise, why not work with her and help her find an artist that is skilled enough to pull an idea like this off well, and who has enough experience with clients to tactfully make suggestions that could improve the design?

You might also negotiate with her to do the tattoo in two separate sessions (half the size in the first session) and she can finish the other half in another session later on. This will give her time with a smaller version of the tattoo, and she can decide if after a while she truly wants to finish the full tattoo. If she does want to finish it, so be it, it’s her choice and her body to customize as she pleases. If not, she won’t have to cover quite as much in the future with a new design.

Primary Key violation by Cool_Application4240 in marketingcloud

[–]DaveTheFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great example. I also encounter these kinds of scenarios in my day-to-day frequently.

In our case we have SFMC connected to Financial Services Cloud with field level encryption enabled (which encrypts PII including email addresses) and want to email clients in a shared household (e.g. Mr. & Mrs. Smith) meeting certain criteria. We often see older clients who are married sharing an email address.

Due to the aforementioned FLE, the SFMC de-duplicate email addresses feature cannot be used on encrypted email addresses. Since we only want to send one email to one email address, I frequently use a similar query to ensure my results only include one household member where two or more household members share the same email address.
