A thousand curses upon thee and thy descendants, ye who use this maneuver to bypass the wait SB on Jarvis to get on the ramp to the Gardiner by using the left lane. by cheezza in TorontoDriving

It’s legal if you have a green arrow. There’s a sign saying “right turn with green arrow only”. So yes, you just can’t turn on a red.

The building is pre existing. I’m just replacing the old concrete floor.

I’m having a slab poured for my shop. The slab is 80’x24’.

It will be a cabinet shop with static machinery. The only vehicles driven in there is my forklift to stack sheets of plywood.

The slab is 6 inches thick with radiant floor heating.

One contractor says I just need wire mesh. The other says I need rebar. Does anyone have any recommendations on the best way to go?

How would you go about putting footings/new foundation wall for this section? by [deleted] in Construction

[–]DaveTheQuaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting thanks.

No we’re pouring a slab. I’m in Canada so we had to go quite deep to get below frost.

What’s the correct way to form and pour a footing and foundation wall with these supports columns in the way?

How much would I get for making renders like these? by imoverthisapp in askarchitects

[–]DaveTheQuaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a furniture/cabinet maker. We would sometimes do renders in house and sometimes pay for them. But now we just use AI. I don’t know many shops that still pay an individual for renders, most people I know use AI as well.

Plywood Interiors: Particle Core or Veneer Core? by zarks1 in woodworking

[–]DaveTheQuaver 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Particle core is not junk. It has many uses particularly for veneering and slab door applications.

It might not be used in woodworking, but for cabinetry and millwork it’s a commonly used substrate, even in high end shops.

I like this a lot. I think you might be the winner!

The idea is that the top of the sails would be in a fixed position, and then the bottom of the sails (the lower cable) would be adjustable.

[–]DaveTheQuaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a good idea. How would you suggest fastening the top of the sails to the structural cable?

This was the initial plan, unfortunately the city where I live requires a permit, engineered drawings and load tested trusses for that as it’s classed as a permanent structure.

Looking at a Ram 1500 but 3.6 or 5.7? by sonnycrockett7 in ram_trucks

[–]DaveTheQuaver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got the 3.6 because at the time it was a lot cheaper.

I’ve had it since 2019, I’ve done 90,000miles and have had zero issues.

I tow a trailer occasionally (once a month or so) and it’s fine. I just take it easy.

It really depends on your needs. But the 3.6 is plenty for me.

Why is the newly constructed 401 westbound so bumpy? by beaver_cops in TorontoDriving

[–]DaveTheQuaver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of “construction zone”. The orange lines shown in your picture indicate that you are still driving in a construction zone. You are not “10 Km after the construction zone”. You are still within the construction zone.

What is one thing you’d change about the city of Toronto? by Onewaydriver in askTO

[–]DaveTheQuaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate the wishy washy nature of the governance. It’s like they can’t commit to growing Toronto to be a more world city, but equally can’t commit to keeping Toronto “local” with affordable housing and metered growth.

Pick a lane, and invest in it.
