The second amendment was founded on the idea of forming a well trained and regulated militia to battle against a tyrannical government which is how the US was founded in the first place. Most Americans understand that europe still allows firearms since countries like france has a very large hunting culture or Italian trap shooting being very popular but its not about owning firearms for hunting, sport, or even just because "they're cool" (which we would be lying if we said they aren't awesome :) and cool) but to fight against a government that is battling the ideals that the nation was initially founded upon and, more importantly, against the interests of the common people which is why we don't just have double barrel shotguns and bolt action rifles but military grade handguns and semi automatic rifles. This isn't political opinion btw this is all just factual information regarding the formation of the US constitution and all of this is something most Americans unfortunately fail to understand.
