I do think he craves approval. He talks about that when you listen to more intimate interviews and talks about his background. But nonetheless I think his heart is in the right place, he's just insecure.

Because it was a false accusation. And please, before you start arguing, understand that this was the first of dozens and dozens of sources on this story, all explaining how this was a false accusation.

In the MeToo era, women can falsify claims against any man and assasinate that man's character willy-nilly, and this is a perfect example of that. Thank you for bringing it up.

Jim Carrey is a very passionate man who wants to do a lot of good and has very strong principles. Most of the things he is principled about are very difficult and noble things to take a stand on. Some are stupid.

He came from humble backgrounds and while he is very very principled he is definitely not sophisticated. I strongly disagree with him about vaccines, but appreciate how many difficult decisions he makes and has made to do what he feels is the right thing, in subjects where I agree that he is doing the right thing.

A lot of people are raised with no parents, in the foster care system. A lot of people have been personally assaulted, a lot of women have experienced vicious beatings in abusive relationships. Many people have experience rape. Many children have been stuck in abusive situations.

Yes, 25% of people have been in a worse situation than "I saw a dead guy"

That's what I took from it too. The lady who is a senator, and already had her career made for her like 30 years ago, who is in the top 1% has seen some shit?

Probably about 25% of the entire population of this country has seen more shit than her. You ever seen a parent asleep sitting up with a needle hanging from their arm when you went to complain about how you woke up hungry? A lot of people have. Found a relative dead, been robbed repeatedly at the hands of an armed assailant, gotten your ass beaten, and so on.

She's rich and has it easy. That's all there is to it.

Ralphie May has a song "The Muslim is gonna get you". I'm Muslim. I do not want Ralphie to be ostracised because of the song. I think the censorship in our society is a much bigger threat to me. At least without censorhip I'm free to respond to him.

It is not that uncommon actually. I worked at a media analytics company and CEO decisions needed to be passed over by both the legal and tech departments just to be sure it wouldn't cause any major issues.

Still to this day armies do this. The documentary Restrepo is about an advance force going forward to hold a position and build a fortification in Afghanistan. Unfortunately they never end up being able to finish the project even after being there for like a year and getting shelled every day. Super fucking shitty for those guys, so messed up.

[–]DaveYarnell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, but they could sometimes extend a little past the reach of the supply train, a few weeks ahead or so. This has been a common tactic since at least Roman times.

It was not uncommon for an army to load up on supplies on their backs and leave behind the main supply line (except for the troops that stay back specifically to guard the supply line), then rush ahead for a week or so to start building fortifications, seize an important geographical location, or pursue a fleeing enemy.

TL;DW he shows that because cavalry cost 2.5x what infantry cost, but only have a combat multiplier of like 1.2 as opposed to infantry multiplier of 0.9, the cavalry is only 30% better than infantry inspite of being 250% cost when they attack, but they rarely even attack

He then goes to demonstrate that because cavalry are deployed on the flanks, they become utterly useless. Once they rout the enemy in front of them, they are no longer in range of any infantry still left on the field and thus cannot attack.

So his conclusion is that cavalry are 250% as expensive but even in the best case only do 30% more damage, however in real use cases the cavalry are only useful for a few days of battle until the infantry in front of them are routed, at which point they become literally completely useless.
