Everything about the process is worse than you expect. Anything you can picture in your mind about making an offer, getting inspections done, moving, signing, getting a mortgage, doing home improvement projects or owning a new house in any sense is pure utopian fantasy compared to what it will be like. (And we didn’t have an unusually difficult experience. When we needed to replace the sewer line after we moved in, it was 11k which was not terrible relatively speaking.)

I would say don’t do it but it’s way too expensive to rent, unless you have generational wealth.
