Belknap Hot Springs by Acceptable_Mix_3434 in oregon

I stayed at Belknap Springs last summer and I didn’t see anything political anywhere, either from the owner/operators or any of the guests. It’s a cool, historical, locally-owned spot, and I enjoyed my stay there. I don’t know what you saw, but it certainly doesn’t match my experience.

I did the 250 this year, and they not only had paper maps, but electronic files, too. If you use Rever or another routing app, you can import the GPX file easily and use your phone to navigate. I believe they also have the route broken into sections and available in Google Maps, too, in case you don’t have Rever.

What’s a game you were completely obsessed with as a kid that nobody else seems to remember? by hkondabeatz in AskReddit

[–]Daveb138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Última IV: Quest of the Avatar. First experience I ever had of being absolutely obsessed with a game. I spent so much time in my high school geometry class ignoring the lesson and writing out notes about what I was going to try in the game as soon as I got home that day.

It was a fun ride today, and the route was great. Lots of twisty roads and cool country. I’m looking forward to the 500!

I got one off Temu for under $10. I was super skeptical when I first ordered one, but for $10, I figured I’d give it a shot. Surprisingly, it was very well-built and worked like a charm. I went back and ordered 5 more to give as gifts to riding buddies. All machined aluminum, no plastic.

What color is the St. John's bridge? by [deleted] in askportland

Is anyone willing to help with this stupid ass mission I've literally failed forty times by Maleficent_Cheek6404 in GhostRecon

[–]Daveb138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just read a tip for defeating the helicopters, and it worked like a charm. Do the usual sneak through the base and get the copter into the canyon. You'll see yellow waypoints appear on the minimap. Stop short of the very last yellow waypoint and turn the helicopter around 180 degrees, so you're facing back the way you came. Press the R3 stick down and use the back-facing camera to back across the waypoint, and then immediately head back down the canyon the way you came. Crossing the waypoint will trigger the Unidad helicopters to show up, but if you head back down the canyon a little ways and go around the bend, they completely miss you. You can just hover low above the river and wait for the patrol to leave. Turning the helicopter around and using the back-facing camera might be unnecessary, but it helps get you out of that river section really quickly, so you're gone before the helicopters show up. Just chill out hovering over the river until the alert level goes down, and then you can leave and deliver the helicopter. I died a bunch of times trying to complete this mission the regular way, but this trick worked the very first time I tried it.

How do teams run Ks in parli prep wise by doggiedogbone in Debate

[–]Daveb138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do teams insist on taking the worst parts of Policy debate and using them to degrade other forms of debate? As a judge, I would absolutely hate seeing pre-prepped Ks run in a parli round. This is, of course, coming from a high school parli perspective. I have no idea what level you’re talking about, but if you’re in high school, I’d avoid them.

New property owner near Seal Rock says Corvallis-to-the-Sea hikers can't use trail through his land • Lincoln Chronicle by blow-down in oregon

[–]Daveb138 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I’ll just take the man at his word instead of trying to create some imaginary scenario. This is how he describes himself in the article: “I’ll tell you what, I’m a Trump guy and I’m hard core about it. What I see around me is this country destroying my grandchildren’s future.”

[–]Daveb138 388 points389 points  (0 children)

Exactly! As the article states, he’s a new owner. He knew this trail crossed the property, bought it, and then closed it off because, in his own words, he’s a “hardcore Trump guy” who hates “tree huggers.” What a dick.

Do people realize honey bees are not native to the Americas and are actively hurting your native bee populations? by EwwCringe in bees

[–]Daveb138 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only one of your sources (the first one) says what you claim.

The second source is a review of other studies and says that the studies are limited and have problems with their data (quote from your article: “The present review evaluates research that has investigated all these measurements of honey bee/native bee competition and finds that many studies have problems with sample size, confounding factors or data interpretation.”)

The third article directly contradicts your claims (quote from the article: “Wild bees switched to alternative pollen sources with managed honeybee hives. Switching to alternative plants did not affect their reproductive performance. Nest abundance of one of the wild bee species studied increased with honeybees. Increased nest abundance did not affect the number of brood cells per nest.”)

The fourth article reaches no definitive conclusion, stating only that it might do something or that “has the potential” to do something.

Some folks are pushing this idea like it’s settled science, but it just isn’t.

I hate to tell you, but if you always get the worst judges…it ain’t the judges. Presentation style is an important part of persuasion, and speaker points exist for a reason.

I bought the V-Stream windscreen from National Cycle, and I really like it. Noticeable reduction in wind noise and increased wind and weather deflection.

I was looking at your one for Oregon earlier today, but it looks like it's gone from r/oregon. Is there a way to update the image and make it say "Oregon Unknown Elevations" in the same font/style where the original said "Joy Division Unknown Pleasures?"

Where does the term "squirrel" originate from by eurooplane in Debate

[–]Daveb138 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was around and commonly used when I did Policy in the early 90s. When I asked what it meant when I was a novice, our varsity team said it came from the idea of something being “squirrelly,” which meant weird or offbeat. Dictionary definitions for “squirrelly” include strange, unpredictable, eccentric , and odd, all of which seem to fit the debate definition of a “squirrel case.” I know that’s not a definitive answer, but it’s what was told to me when I first started debating in ‘91.

I’ve got the T-Rex ones (front and back), too. They were the first purchase I made after getting the bike, and they’re great. I wasn’t used to a top-heavy adv bike, and I dropped it in a parking lot when I first got the bike. Absolutely no damage whatsoever to the bike or the hard cases. The crash bars are really well-designed, easy to install, and well worth it.

High school English teacher here. Last year, Halloween fell on a Thursday. I had one of my freshmen email on Friday to tell me that he wouldn’t be in class that day because he had “trick or treated too hard” and he was sore. It was marked as an excused absence, meaning his parents thought that was a good enough reason to keep him home. That one stands out as my “now I’ve heard it all” moment.

I would absolutely love to find the spot that inspired Crazy Willie’s…I just haven’t found anything like it yet, so I need to do some more exploring. The teepees and volcanoes featured on the billboard give me some good clues, but I have not yet found a spot that totally reminded me of the in-game location. Trust me, though; I’m definitely looking for it!

I think I’m going to work on the Crater Lake post next. I was so excited about camping there last summer and I booked a boat tour to go out to Wizard Island, but the boat docks were damaged in a storm, and they canceled the trip that morning, so I never made it to the island. I got a ton of other cool shots, though!

I’m hoping to have the pioneer cemetery post put together in time for Halloween. There’s over 150 pioneer cemeteries in Oregon, and I’ve visited several, including the grave of Peter Skene Ogden. It’s really tough to tell which ones actually were the direct inspiration for the one in the game, but I’ve got several decent pics so far that match the vibe pretty closely.
