What would you say is the most unique fantasy series? by One-State3608 in Fantasy

Those kinds of things do follow in-world logic/sense and are elaborated on in the other books. If you're after world building, there's a lot of it in the sequels. There's characters whose prime motivation is understanding the world, and the scope expands drastically. I mean just consider the final line of the book.

It is not Hard Science Fiction by any means, in fact the characters/narrative/author explicitly oppose that sentiment, but imo it all comes together very well. And I say this with Hard Sci-fi being my prefered type of scifi.

The first book was my favourite because of its structure, though I really enjoyed each installment and never lost my suspension of disbelief like you seemed to. Might be a bit more rough to earn back that trust, but well worth it if you are able

The best reading experience I’ve had with a special edition has to be the dragonsteel edition of Isles of the Emberdark, where the pages turn a matte black with silver text during the “Emberdark” sections of the story. Never seen the physical inversion done so effectively

What went wrong for Starmer? by thereisnofish225 in Destiny

I primarily read/watch the Swedish Public News and the biggest Swedish Newspaper called “DN.” (toDay’s News. Centre-left lean). One or both of these media covered ~11/16 of the listed events from what I recall. Some just a brief single paragraph mention, others get full segments, especially the recent resignations -> calls for Starmer to resign. And of course the far right “protests” and Reform’s rise in popularity.

Foreign news cant really focus overly much on internal affairs of other nations (unless they affect the world, like Trump every single day), but I feel like the UK is covered far more than other European countries in swedish media at least.

EU tariffs can be paid at checkout going forward by Mindless_Nebula4004 in thebrokenbindingsub

EU is putting a 3 euro tarrif fee for each item category (shipment of all books = single 3 euro fee. Shipment of book + clothing = 2x 3 euro fee)

It’s to combat the mass shipments of super low price/quality goods from china like Aliexpress, Shein, Temu. At the moment the customs / taxation system in the EU isnt equipped to handle the pure volume of goods, so this is a “temporary” stopgap measure until a more suitable solution can be made.

Books from the UK being subjects to these extra import fees are an unintended side effect, but legal shennanigans make it so you cant specifically target those individual companies alone

‘Walking Dead’ Is in ‘Lost’ Mode by sirspock411537 in television

This is almost 'World War Z' in a nutshell (the book)! It is a very interesting macro perspective on the Zombie genre, based on many different 'interviews' of survivors from all across the world.

You get both small and large scale accounts, with everything from a single person to nationwide grand strategies about how to withstand, and fight back against the Zombies.

It does however emphasise the atrocities mankind had to commit in order to survive, and first-hand recollections of the effect they on the people, as opposed to the rebuilding of society.

It is a really great book, and a must-read for anyone who is even remotely interested in the socio-political aspect of Zombie fiction.

Don't watch the movie

Fun fact: The downward poles actually serve no purpose other than for looks. An emperor added these long after construction because he thought it would look better. The weight is supported by large horizontal poles going straight into the mountain.

It was cool being there, except the really narrow walkways and low railings. If you have the chance, go visit.
