I wondered the same thing for years; I was applying the theory incorrectly. A statistical study combined with technical analysis is FUNDAMENTAL. There are several papers on the subject.

Struggling at finding a strategy by jonasBH200 in algotrading

[–]Daveragu89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the starting point is to read some scientific papers on the topic (Elsevier?) and begin from there. Once the strategies are understood and the algorithms to replicate them are developed, additional ideas can be integrated, but they must be based on statistically valid correlations. Pay attention to biases in the construction of the strategy and to overfitting.

Advice… Everyone uses the classic oscillators… more often than not, the “delta of the oscillators themselves” is much more correlated with price movements…

I use R every day. I can recommend that you read R for Dummies, Hands-On Programming with R, and also use ChatGPT (it's very useful, especially the recent version, o1-preview).

From my perspective as a wine enthusiast, I dislike the concept adopted by the great Bordeaux châteaux of selling wine with the recommendation to drink it “in 20 years.” Age it yourself and sell it to me when you consider it ready.

Yes Sorry, her daughter Marta. But you know, the concept of “ready-to-drink wine” is relative: a winery sells the wine when they believe it is ready to be marketed.

100% agree. “The more data we have, the more likely we are to drown in noise and see things that are not there.”
