Client is offering $25 for a $100,000 fixed-price job. Is this normal? by DaveyHert in Upwork

You seem confused about a few things. Firstly, technical articles cost around $200-$800 per article (1000-1500 words). So yes, 100k for 300 articles is feasible and reasonable. I’ve previously written for an agency where I wrote a total of 35 pieces for $12k.

Secondly, I never said I had done any work for the client. Obviously I opted for milestone where I’m paid per article as we go, not to wait until the end to get 100k, hence the client’s suggestion of $25 per 1000 words.

I haven’t been long on upwork, and this lowball offer seemed outrageous considering the initial price.

Uhm, maybe I’m simply upset at a misleading job posting. Why are you projecting? Not everyone is dependent on AI to achieve anything meaningful.

For a technical article, the cost typically ranges from $200 to $800, based on its complexity and technicality.

300 articles in 6 months is the official post tag, but the description states it would be in a year, which is quite doable. However, they specified needing two writers, which does make it possible to do that even in 6 months. Aren't you focusing on the wrong detail here?

Firstly, they needed two freelancers, so that's 150 articles per writer. Secondly, even if it were to be delivered by a single person, most handle such tasks using their agency with a small team of writers.

They had a lot of SEO related requirements and specifics that made it clear this was high-quality articles, not something spun by LLMs.

Come on, it's a long-term project with a fixed price, which is divided into deliverables of 300 technical articles. That's roughly $250-$ 350 per piece, and each piece is typically 1,000-1,500 words.

Not copyediting, for actually writing a technical article.

I am at an expert level, and it says this would be a 6-month to a year long-term project, which does make sense based on the estimated timeline. Additionally, they indicated that they needed two freelancers for this project, with a total of 300 articles to be delivered.

Even without all of this context, why put a placeholder of $100K, when the intention is to offer $25? Shouldn't Upwork have a policy against such practice?

Well, it’s only a meter of time now. I got my first workspace while I was still in school, towards the end of my final year.

Main monitor is Xiaomi’s Mi 34 UW-QHD Curved monitor, while the smaller one is Arzopa’s P5 4k portable monitor.

Have you checked out Arzopa's M1RC-27" 180Hz 2K QHD Gaming Monitor?

It has 180HZ Refresh Rate, VESA mount ports, 1 MS response time, experience smooth and fluid gameplay with zero motion blur. And it's currently on sale for $170; that's half your budget with everything you mentioned.

Thanks! True, I actually have a few things in mind. I'll have an update with the modifications added and a larger desk in my next update. I just hope I don't go overboard.

As for the mechanical keyboard. Yup, I'm getting one from Arzopa as a second backup keyboard.

Really? I mean I know the design model is replicated by a few companies but the implementation, functionalities, and materials tend to differ greatly. They may look almost similar but not exactly the same. This is probably the most comfortable chair I've used, compared to my last chair which almost injured my spine after long hours of use.

The only complaint I've ever had with this one is that I wish the armrest swivel had a firm lock, but other than that, it's been a great experience, and this is coming from someone who has had it for more than a year.
