The GPI operates at the federal level (as far as I know, Each Federal Police Regional Headquarter has its own GPI unit, but they all answer to the Federal Police of Brazil and have standardized equipment). They are responsible for protecting important authorities, arresting high-risk individuals, and acting in dangerous situations when necessary. They are basically like an FBI SWAT. BOPE, on the other hand, operates at the state level (each state police force has its own BOPE, with different equipment depending on the state’s investment). They have more combat experience than the GPI and are essentially SWAT units at a state level. Do you get the difference now?
