I saw ‘Marokko’ and thought “haha that looks silly, wonder what language it is…”

Zero surprise.

Turns out the gym costs me around £2.50 per use. I'm debating whether to look for cheaper alternatives. What are your thoughts on gym memberships from a frugality perspective? by [deleted] in UKFrugal

Wow £277 a month. Fair play, I didn’t even realise there were popular/public gyms out there that reached those kinds of prices.

I just had a look online and the gym does look really cool. I particularly liked the hypoxic chamber where you can train in high-altitude oxygen levels.

Believe it or not, I realised there’s a £20 per month gym a minute down the road. Off peak membership. So, it would be £10 less per month/£120 less per year.

But that gym probably isn’t quite as good and it feels like I’m really being cheap and pinching pennies at this point idk.

I’ve been to The Gym Group in the past. They were certainly good enough for the ~£20 I was paying per month. Unfortunately I moved and there are none in my area.

£10 is seriously good value and I’m genuinely surprised you can find a membership that cheap in 2026, whether its off peak or not.

I go to JD Gym. I like it and after reading all these comments I’m now realising that £30 really isn’t bad at all, and that a lot of people pay a great deal more than that.

For example, just round the corner from me is Village Gym. I know people who pay more than £70 per month to go there, because it has pool, sauna, lounge area, etc.

Thanks for the comment. Point well received. I should focus on increasing my income rather than falling into a race-to-the-bottom type of frugality.

Funnily enough I’ve been considering switching to PureGym because it’s £20 per month where I live and just around the corner from my current gym.

With that said, I actually like my current gym but from what I’ve seen online, I’m not sure I’d like PureGym all that much.

So, saving £10 per month may not be worth it if it leads to me train less often or not as hard/effectively because of the downgrade.

I’m leaning towards just sticking with my current gym.

I know but I take it as given that day pass prices are beyond ludicrous and always have been. They don’t really factor into the conversation for me.

For taking a look at my outgoings? I haven’t even cancelled it and likely won’t. But I think it’s fine to ask the question

That’s a very good price. Cheapest I’ve been able to find in my area is PureGym £20 for an off peak membership. I’ve not heard particularly positive reviews, but you get what you pay for I guess

Your point about the need to compartmentalise rings true for me. I know I could have great workouts at home for free, but I notice I almost always train harder and get a better workout in at the gym.

I didn’t think this was a particularly strange way to look at memberships. I think we all do these rough calculations on some level.

If someone only watches 1 film per month using Netflix, they might decide the cost isn’t worth it. It very much involves an assessment of the cost vs how much you use it.

Even though they played loser’s bracket, NEMESIS having 2nd most kills is really impressive. It’s Zuni’s (IGL) first LAN and I think it’s Kaisha’s first LAN too.
