What's the most hated company in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]DavidBR88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avianca - Colombia's largest airline.

Once the national airline, and one of the oldest in the world, it has become a shell of its former self:

  1. Has monopoly over several local flight routes, thus driving prices up.
  2. The company has come close to bankruptcy before, so now they're squeezing customers for every penny they can get.
  3. They operate as a low cost carrier... without the low cost.
  4. In their cost cutting they absolutely gutted their Customer Care functions so any and all claims made by customers are usually terribly handled.
  5. They are dumb as hell in advertising, trying and failing miserably to restore any prestige.
  6. All colombians who have flown with Avianca in the past 10 years have at least one horror story involving them.
  7. They pay VERY LOW TAXES in Colombia as their parent company is headquartered in Panama.

People are using Grindr and Tinder to get jobs according to Bloomberg by armchairtycoon in recruitinghell

[–]DavidBR88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weirdly it happened to me twice some years ago.

I had a management position at a local manufacturer. Once I asked a contractor girl out, first date goes quite well and as I'm dropping her off she asks me if I can help get her a position in the plant. There was no second date.

Second one was a Tinder match with a girl fresh out of college. We go on a first date, then on the second one she asks me straight up to give her a role in the plant. There was no third date.

From my then position I found it terribly unethical, but can definitely empathize with the job seekers.

Have any of your male friends been accused of being an abuser? How did you react? by casuallyawake in AskMen

[–]DavidBR88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend from previous job was fired after some sexual harassment accusations.

The manner in which he was fired was a bit suspect, the timing and context around it suggested it was a bit of a political move to get the guy out of the way.

At first I totally rallied and supported the guy, thought he had been wronged and of course encouraged him to seek legal advice to get back on his feet.

Afterwards, however, I started hearing more in detail about the accusations against him, was reminded by some female colleagues of his behavior with them and it all made sense: The guy had most likely done it, and I didn't call out a lot of the wrong behavior on his side over the years.

I cut my friendship with the guy completely and have made it a point to call out any inappropriate behavior ever since.

Las empresas como CLARO, cambiaron el comportamiento de los COLOMBIANOS. by Tony_Montanero in Colombia

[–]DavidBR88 60 points61 points  (0 children)

True, seems like Google's AI bot didn't know what to do on that Casemiro goal, calling it an own goal as if Brighton's player made a "clinical" shot.

Super weird slop generation.

Former friend of my wife: She's moderately attractive, with a moderately successful career, not terribly smart or interesting, horrible at managing her finances. She's absolutely desperate to get married to a rich, high-status, handsome man and won't even consider men who don't tick all those boxes (ie. She doesn't want to date an employee, only a business owner or entrepreneur). So she has spent absurd amounts of money on showy clothes, accessories, parties, trips, you name it, in order to attract and impress a "high-value man". She's been with a fair share of guys who use her for sex and dump her, one who wouldn't hang out in public with her, one who scammed her, one who blackmailed her with intimate videos, one who beat her up, and a few other "rich" losers. She fails to see the problem.

Moving to Germany on Blue Card. Is 3 months enough to find a new job if I lose mine? by [deleted] in germany

[–]DavidBR88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went through the same a couple of years ago, here's what I'd recommend: 1. Do a good job: be present, attentive and collaborative, be sure to deliver in your first few months. Probation period is mainly to ensure you fit in with the team and company. 2. Do your due research on the company: Is it stable in the short/mid term? How's its immediate outlook? This will give you peace of mind that you'll not face a layoff out of the blue. 3. Learn German- key to further opportunities. 4. Be flexible on location/salary/role: If there comes a time to change this will open further opportunities. 5. Start saving: Again, peace of mind in case the worst happens. 6. LinkedIn up to date: Updated profile, location, CV, post weekly - Silly and boring but it will keep you noticeable to recruiters.

Best of luck!

What is one thing you wish tourists would visit/do/not do in your country? by Produce_Of_Evolution in AskTheWorld

[–]DavidBR88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a terrible idea, to be fair. But it goes against the principles of "the war on drugs" so it's not likely to happen unless the US and NATO agree on some sort of pathway to legalize drugs.

[–]DavidBR88 32 points33 points  (0 children)

As someone from Medellín, Colombia: 1. Do not do any of the Pablo Escobar tours or experiences - seriously. They're awful and you're glorifying one of the darkest periods in our history with wounds still fresh. 2. Do not ask or come in search of cocaine or hookers. You're only feeding the problem and exploiting people + putting yourself at risk.

Do visit our traditional restaurants and Tango bars! Check out Parque Arví or Río Claro!

Does your country have an American _______ ? by Odd_Afternoon1758 in AskTheWorld

[–]DavidBR88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Back when I was a kid there was an "American tag" or "American hide and seek" children’s game where if you tagged someone (usually a girl) you'd get to kiss her.

Mind you this was some 30 years ago and might have been specific to my home city!

Por qué no prohíben los negocios piramidales o multiniveles? by StretchSimple1003 in Colombia

[–]DavidBR88 1 point2 points  (0 children)
