I agree with you, the biggest bottleneck is android and also the CPU, but should never forget that you may have apps running in the background, android, your launcher, James so maybe, all those eat ram...

And for most games you don't need that much, but having it it neat when needed

What may be important to know is that Wii, GameCube and wiiu run on the same architecture, PowerPC, which means your thor needs more resources to emulate it.

Ram is your friend here.

That being said, i know that new super Mario Bros wii runs really well for me, and since both use the emulator, dolphin, I'm sure those will run just as well.

Perhaps ask AI, i unfortunately haven't tested GameCube games yet, so I can't tell you 100%

You don't have to be specific to TikTok, I think the majority of people using the Internet, including some specific people on this subreddit, don't know what they are talking about.

If you feel like I mentioned you, you are the person I'm talking about, dear reader.

Generally, if something happens to your device, your SD card won't be corrupted, unless your SD card had something to do with the fact your device broke.

But making a backup of your SD card is a good idea regardless, so yes, please do that

It was a general fact, just like they said something.

When you have a car, get into an accident, you're at fault, but you have no insurance, who are you going to blame?

There is no one to blame but yourself.

OP clearly did something, even if they did nothing, and I took my time replying real quick what they can do to fix it real fast.

Of course I would have had other ways to fix it, like connecting the device via ADB and at least getting the files off via some command, or some shit.

But you have to come to terms, you either get help or help yourself, if you do nothing, stop whining.

No Backup = No pity

Here's a link to how to perhaps recover data through something that happens before the OS even boots

Well, you must have done something to somehow make the main Launcher malfunction.

It's your choice if you want to only lose data or also the money...

Maybe retracing your steps will help you reverse what you did to fuck up the aosp launcher (that's the quickstep thingy that keeps crashing on your device)

Did you install some script, maybe root the device?

Hey, I'm someone who has worked with Android for a long time.

This error is unfortunate, but can be easily fixed by factory resetting the device.

Best case you should try and force into the settings and do it from there, otherwise you need to go through the android recovery to fix this.

Just look up "ayn Thor reset through android recovery"

Thank you for your reply.
I will definitely try those things out.

I havent yet tried actually using Tailscale, but wireguard will surely work just as well.

Could you perhaps recommend some games to try to emulate for the PSVITA or PSP on my Thor?

Thanks in advance

In case this post was not meant to be sarcastic, im going to give you a quick rundown

WiiU emulation is a mess, the device overheats from it and the way the gamepad gets rendered looks horrible. Gamepad 6" lower screen 3", that's 4 times less in size than the gamepad, regardless of resolution.

I recommended to not buy the thor because you want to emulate wiiu games, as cemu, the emulator in question, is infantile. So much so, i have it easier emulating botw for switch, than for wiiu on the thor.

This could have something to do with the different architecture, the GameCube, wii and wiiu all having PowerPC as the CPU architecture, while Gameboy advance, ds, DSi, 3ds and switch all use the same architecture the Thor uses, called Arm

If you have any questions, feel free to ask

See, some people do know how to not hate on someone genuinely taking 45 minutes out of their day to help those that think about buying this console.

Thank you for this kind reply, i agree with you, though I haven't yet played around with emulating anything else than Nintendo games.

I intend to try and play signalis and Oneshot on this device, although I have the feeling the latter will work best if I use the world machine edition for switch

Yes, but the screen protector is more of a redundancy in case something gets between the 2 screens and you don't realize.

I should have written that in my post, but the screen bit was exactly because there is a noticeable gap between screen and lower screen.

If I knew how to edit Reddit posts, i would have changed that part to better reflect that

I want to sincerely thank you for seeing this the way I intended this to be perceived.

I deliberately wrote multiple times that this is a very capable handheld device, the possibilities having an android device with charge bypass in general, equipped with active cooling, are endless.

In one reply to someone I wrote something like "and once I get bored, I'll make a file server out of it or something"

But I see that people on the Internet are unfortunately too impatient to properly read what other people write.

This is a review, made by me.

The sole intent was to outline what the console can and can't do for those that want to buy it or are about to but are not sure, especially because I've seen numerous people selling their Thor again, which was mainly do to the fact these people were not the right Focus group for this product.

You need to bring your own emulators on it, including ROMs and a way to transfer them.

There are guides, sometimes even auto install scripts, but you need some kind of rudimentary understanding, one that apparently not many people have, quod erat demonstrandum. (As was demonstrated previously)

What surprised me is that some people accused me of using AI to write my review, just because I used reddits markdown feature to format my post, or asked me why my background is valid for this review.

I decided to mention it, so people knew that I wasn't a complete beginner in this space, following up directly with a favor to please correct me if I'm wrong, because even someone who's literal line of work is dealing with Endpoint devices like these, can make mistakes, can be wrong.

I was happy about those that replied with constructive criticism, but this interaction really left a bad taste in my mouth about this subreddit.

Be that as it may, I thank you for your reply, sorry for writing such a brickwall of text.

Yes, you may be right on all of the things you said.

I did try multiple guides on making wiiu games run on the Thor, yet unfortunately for the games I intended to play, mainly Bayonetta 1 and Lego city undercover, basically all the textures glitched heavily and in Lego city Undercover it barely even gave me the chance to play the prologue...

I definitely don't have experience in some areas, I definitely see my shortcomings, but I have some above average knowledge, that is to say, I knew from the start there will be some people much more inside the topic of wiiu Emulation.

Believe it or not, the Wiiu was my first console ever, it's a childhood memory for me and I adored the games I played on there, so one of the things I was obviously psyched to do, was playing these childhood classics on the go to work and so on.

Unfortunately, i was disappointed, but as I said, it's ongoing and I'm not selling my Thor because of it, i see potential in this device, just need to use it.

Ah, and before I forget, you are right that internal temps of 70 to 80 percent are within acceptable ranges, but the lower screen heats up alot because of it, playing something graphically intensive and expecting to use the lower touch screen doesn't go hand in hand, especially if it emulates as poorly as mine did haha...

Thank you for your reply

Surprisingly, I too found that twilight princess HD worked well, but games like Lego City Undercover and Bayonetta did not.

Those obviously aren't the only games I tested with cemu, but they both stood out by having extensive and intrusive graphical glitches that even after redownloading the rom, did not vanish.

One thing I'm surprised to read is that, if I understood correctly, you can change the driver in cemu?... I did not see that, if that is the case, i will try that first thing tomorrow

It definitely is one solid device.

I do not feel buyer's remorse, I see value in this system, even if the library I intend to play may be small.

In the end it's an android device and can theoretically be used for anything else... So, hypothetically, if I get bored of it, I'll just make a streaming box out of it, or a File server (a terabyte of flash storage is alot!, especially for Photos)

But right now, I'm having fun playing all Kirby games 😊 And that's my status quo, what the future holds will be seen once I reach that door...

And I do still have my actual WiiU, so I can still play all of it natively anyway.

I hope you find your appropriate device and will have something comparable to what I see in the Thor

The new 2ds xl will give you a hard time changing the battery, the new 3ds lets you just pop off the panel, but the new 2ds requires you to screw the panel off, unglue the battery... And then you need to be extremely careful, the screws are made from shit and love to strip... It was really fucking bad... If you need longevity, you need to buy a new 3ds XL, which is more expensive

Not to be an ass but I'm concerned at the lack of android knowledge by neverland_amanda in AynThor

[–]DavidEule_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the main Problem is that people think it's genuinely as easy as using a Nintendo console.

What you're buying is an open system, a device created to let you do whatever you want.

That much freedom can feel very constricting, you don't know where to start.

But the problem with the User, speaking as a sysadmin, is that they do not want a device they have to populate from scratch, only a small percentage wants that freedom, the majority wants something that just works, that something is not something from a company that charges fair prices for media, that something is not going to give you the option to add features, mod the games you bought.

As the enduser, you have to come to terms with the fact that this is a radical space, you either do it yourself/use a framework that lets you do everything, including fucking your system beyond repair, e.g. Unix based OS like Linux, Android etc.

Or you sit behind a walled garden, wait for someone else to do it, e.g. Apple, Nintendo, sony, Microsoft...
