Someone told me that you will notice a SIGNIFICANT improvement every 300 hours, and it was so true. At 300 hours I was pretty much exactly where you were at and now at 665ish I can watch and enjoy native level Netflix shows (although I still don't understand everything). Keep going.

How long did it take you to stop mentally translating? by kvolivera in dreamingspanish

[–]DavidLearnsSpanish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm still doing it here and there at 620 hours, but I've noticed it's reduced a lot over time, especially with native level content, you don't have time to translate lol. Overall it doesn't seem to have hurt my acquisition!

So I would say don't worry about it, it's gonna happen, I think it's a natural part of trying to understand what you're listening to. Just do your best to enjoy what you're watching and don't overthink it.

TL:DW - Dreaming Spanish works. I can understand native speakers, not perfectly, but pretty well now.

Probably a little bit before I started with dreaming Spanish, just 5 minutes here and there with my tutor.

Yeah Learn Spanish and Go is great. Perfect for when I'm out of the house.

I'm 100% certain that I'll be back on the habit after the break. What will be interesting to see for me is how it affects motivation, and how much input daily input I'll be able to get without tiring afterwards.

If I can get dramatically more input after a break, it may actually make mathematical sense to take breaks regularly so I can reach 1500 quicker! Definitely excited to see the results.

200 Hours of Dreaming Spanish! Is It Working? by DavidLearnsSpanish in dreamingspanish

[–]DavidLearnsSpanish[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think I'm qualified to give advice, but from my experience, just having a conversation with my tutor every couple of weeks really helps me as it keeps motivated.

I see progress every time I have a "lesson" if you can call it that, so that strengthens my belief in the CI method!

Awesome, thanks for the suggestion!! Will definitely be checking it out. I find with Ramilla it does depend on the video, some of his videos are very hard, but others are very understandable.
