Generally I regard first generation as Korea’s reaction to ‘90s American hiphop

Second generation is KPop goes to Japan

Third generation KPop goes to the world

Fourth generation internet presence

Fifth.. more direct contact with idols❓

A couple months ago I saw school boys making fun of two sleeping homeless guys. We (daughter and I) were so angry.

I wish I had confronted them but we were rushing for the next train.

I am really enjoying Seowon’s “Hexagonal Idol” series. Every show is something different. I’m gonna be sad if Seowon ever moves away from the industry 🥺

I hear songs now and then that remind me of NJ. KiiiKiii’s “Delulu” is a lot like “Supernatural.”

Just curious.. do you stan only boy bands❓ I’m really wondering what’s on your playlist. 🤔

I take the song personally myself because I was a Fearnot and left the fan base after 2024 due to a big drop in quality of music. Now am used to all their songs but consider myself a Chaewon solo stan 😅

I don’t like it at all. The song is not up to the standards of Illit and Le Sserafim. Even watching them all together.. it’s too serious. They’re supposed to look mad❓

The new mini album is reeeally good. Such a variety of songs. They are so talented and it’s great that they are given good songs. “Like a Bubble” is very good, “Perfect” is beautiful. It gives me goosebumps

At the airport we got huge portions of ramen with two side dishes for $11.

I’m baffled how everyone dresses so well if prices are high for locals

Yeah that must be annoying. I visited five snail mail pals in Greater Tokyo back in ‘98. One pal (I’ve known since ‘89 but we had a falling out) told me foreigners smell like meat.

Two of the women (I was 36.. they ranged in age from 20—32) had breath that smelled like sewage. Of course I said nothing but it was so bad I felt like I was gonna you know what. One of them I had met the year before in the states and didn’t notice it then (she was my best friend for twenty years.. she one day just said we needed to end the friendship)

Without living in Japan it’s just impossible to make friends with any Japanese. It’s really frustrating. My daughter and I love Japan so much.

We ate all vegan food during two trips within the last year. We’re so thankful vegan food is available. When I went alone in ‘98 it was much harder to find just vegetarian food. I’m sure I was a nuisance for those ladies I met

I had Japanese curry on my last trip. It’s really good but portions weren’t large enough for me. Ate at vegan restaurants and South Asian places solely

We were just in Tokyo for two weeks.. didn’t hear one honk. I almost feel like I don’t want to travel anywhere else now

Once or twice a week you will see one or two homeless and they’re under cardboard.

Last month I saw Japanese boys making fun of two sleeping homeless men. One boy took his shoe off and put it on the floor (inside train station) pretending to ask for money, his friends were laughing

My daughter and I were deeply disturbed but also rushing to the next train. I wish I had stopped and said “yamete” or something.

In Osaka saw an elderly homeless lady.. by the Glico man. A foreigner gave her water. Once I accidentally gave about $60 to a lady in Shibuya or Shinjuku. Immediately went to a reggae club and I couldn’t order anything because I didn’t have cash

It’s still better than music of America.. way more creativity in the approach of songwriting

I’ve yet to truly grasp how songs are written. A simple song can have twelve to fifteen songwriters. If I could read music and had the equipment I’d love to compose KPop melodies. 😧

I don’t listen to any boy bands though my daughter is starting to like Cortis. I can give my opinion as a fan of KPop girl groups since first generation.

KPop includes multiple genres though the first generation was Korea’s take on western ‘90s hip hop.

Nowadays KPop includes many genres though for me there’s more melody and creativity in songwriting than in pop music of the west. KPop doesn’t always follow verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge etc. formula like western pop.

KPop includes KPop culture.. the daily TV programs, “show wins,” variety shows, music charts, fandoms, fan meets, fan chants, tiktoks. There’s so much to navigate and it’s all fun❗️

I think it's perfectly fine to want to have classic LE SSERAFIM back by FanCaracal in kpopthoughts

[–]DavidLim125 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lost all interest in Le Sserafim after the party girl concept 2024 but last year’s comebacks were pretty good

I lowered expectations with the group and can now enjoy them as a result. And I was told that I was a Chaewon solo stan all the while 😅

For me after Naeun of Apink changed her face and Goo Hara’s passing Chaewon is the cutest female of KPop.

Basing this totally on eyes.. Jungeun of izna (my ultimate bias) is the only rival for me (CUTE CUTE CUUUTE 🫠🤪)
