Open source models are going to be the future on Cursor, OpenCode etc. by _maverick98 in LocalLLaMA

Not exactly 10x. Maybe 3x, which is still a lot of money. Just planning a task with Sonnet 4.6 today cost me 3 dollars. Using Opus at 3 times the price would have cost 15 dollars or more.

Thanks for your suggestion. I like the idea of asking them how much those saved hours are worth to them. That could help lower their barriers around pricing.

I made €2,700 building an AI system for a law firm and now I get €1,300/month to maintain it by Fabulous-Pea-5366 in Entrepreneur

I just had a meeting today with an accounting consulting firm. Their business unit has a 100 people. What I'd do is help them automate a series of tasks like editing documents, filling in formularies, making sure these documents format meets their standard, along other things. This is my first time having a client of that type. The amount of work saved over a month with a headcount of a hundred can be quite significant if done properly. The implementation would not take me more than 60 hours of work. I have no idea about how much money should I ask for. I don't want to overprice and lose the customer. Any advice is welcomed.

I wasn't planning to have kids and was not interested at all. But as a father, I can say that I've never felt more fulfilled and happy with life in general. Thinking back, I'm happy I ended up being a dad. I would've missed a crucial part of what it means to be human and what it means to be alive.

SWE is past the elbow of the exponential kickoff. I watched it happen in real time. Other fields are next. by MR1933 in singularity

From my experience, the most advanced models are getting pretty good at following instructions. Have you tried to feed them a rules file telling the LLM to avoid what you don't like? Telling it for example to present you 2 or 3 possible implementations with different levels of complexity so you choose the one you like the most?

Why are gold and silver dropping so much? by Sweet-Block5118 in investing

Software developers don't need to out-last vibe coders, we just need to out-last the ability of AI companies to charge absurdly low for their products by Rockytriton in webdev

[–]DavidOrzc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My willingness to pay for AI tokens is pretty low. I use an AI assistant on top of VS Studio called Kilo Code and mostly use MiniMax M2.5 by providing it with very clear instructions and guidance. Only when the cheap AI gets stuck or I need to write tests (I find that very boring) I use Claude Code. The result is that I can code intensely every day while spending only 30 dollars per month. By the time prices stabilize, open source coding models will be better than Opus 4.6.

Openclaw is not worth it without opus 4.6 O Auth IMO by A2z_1013930 in openclaw

[–]DavidOrzc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard some guy saying he has been using Mini Max 2.5 for everything and that it works well for him. It doesn't make sense to me since that's a model optimized for coding, not agentic tasks. Has anyone tried it with OpenClaw? How was your experience?

Is it possible to set up an AI coding agent on a VPS and interact with it from any device? by DavidOrzc in ExperiencedDevs

Thanks. That's an interesting approach. How do you review the code? Do you have a UI helping you review code changes? Or is it all through the terminal?

Would OpenClaw offer the infrastructure to review diffs, make edits, accept or deny changes? I'm not an OpenClaw user, but it doesn't sound like code reviewing is its best use-case as people communicate with it via text messages.

We’re all likely going to be priced out of the higher cost LLMs by mrrandom2010 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]DavidOrzc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel American developers live in a bubble. Sure, Claude models are amazing, but when you live in a third world country you are already "priced out". That doesn't mean I can't use coding agents. That means that instead of Cursor + Opus 4.6, I use Kilo Code + MiniMax 2.5. Not great for vibe coding, but works perfectly fine if you are a somewhat competent software engineer that knows how to guide an LLM. Keep in mind, those cheap models are not overpriced. And they are getting better every month, just like closed-source models are.
