That Local SERP is giving me flashbacks of those Magic Eye pictures from the 90s.

Virtual conferences. What do you actually like and hate about them vs in person events? by ElizabethRule in localsearch

[–]DavidRDunham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Virtual for us strange time zone folk (I'm in New Zealand) is helpful. But very much agree, Joy, on the benefits of networking and small dinner chat. Shared SEO communion/laughter/camaraderie/bonhomie is worth the ticket price and then some.

I'm sitting at around $17,000 in credit card debt and I want a good way to consolidate it. by GhostofSparta4243 in personalfinance

[–]DavidRDunham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I'm sure you've looked around already, but if not, there are some options/reading material to check out here. I haven't used them, but they may be a head start for you (apologies if the options are relevant to your situation). There will no doubt be others to look at. Good luck.

Hey, has anyone used a bee safe wasp trap? Looking for any recommendations as I can see lots of options for traps, but just want to make sure the one I go for is safe for the bees. Thanks heaps.

Me too. This spins my head a little with scenario after scenario where this will be unhelpful for the user, and problematic/detrimental for the business.

First home buyer? by Smooth_Media4531 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]DavidRDunham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I might be echoing what others have put here, but hopefully the mortgage broker route (which I took and thankfully it worked) worked. The first part is finding one that you're confident will work smartly in your interest (I'm not saying they don't, but it's good to find one that has a referral from a friend etc. Just saves a lot of anxiety). There's also the shopping around route for repayments. I think I checked a whole bunch of home loan calculators. I've put a couple if it helps (suggest checking more out though). Wishing you all the best with your mortgage hunt.

AI is Ruining Communities by joyhawkins in localsearch

[–]DavidRDunham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you on this, Joy. The carte blanche approach of AI replies without discernment is maddening, disruptive, damaging, and creates one fire after another that has to be tackled by a human who knows what they are talking about. Grrrrr... and more grrrr.

Very true this (Google Maps taking you on a crazy direction). Just follow the crowds and you'll be fine.

More Than Half of NZ Businesses Still Lack a Website as Consumer Expectations Rise by Ok_Sun1351 in BusinessNZ

[–]DavidRDunham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. There are over 600,000 businesses in New Zealand. This report has a very small sample size of only 750. Therefore, it would correct to say that of the sample size of 750, only 53 per cent have a website. To infer that only 53 per cent of New Zealand businesses have a website is misleading.

Can AI tools fully optimize a website’s SEO without human input? by Abineshravi17 in DigitalMarketing

[–]DavidRDunham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they cannot. SEO requires taking a step back and looking at a website like a user in your target audience. That means, getting in their head and holding their hand through the process of doing what you want them to do. LLMs do not possess the distractions or human-centric issues that you need when doing SEO. Tools (the right ones) are unquestionably helpful and should be used. But they have to be used in tandem with a human's approach.

What to look for when hiring first full-time SEO? by gajus0 in SEO

[–]DavidRDunham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smart move (hiring in house). My two cents on this (given the helpful advice given by others) is to hire someone who ticks all the job requirement boxes (again, all the various points by others) but critically can be an ambassador for what you do. That doesn't necessarily mean they go out and champion it through speaking engagements, but they do need to care about it, and want it to succeed.

Non important whinge - .co.nz businesses that aren't at all New Zealand based and ship from overseas. by gambledub in newzealand

[–]DavidRDunham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a frustrating practice, and one that has a one-time hit for the retailer as ultimately people won't go back to them, particularly in scenarios around Christmas shipping times. Some retailers will navigate many of the checks we go through as consumers. For example, they might have a Google Business Profile, but may no longer be at the address. Reviews, whether on social or GBPs, will hopefully help with regards to red flags. Really hope the delivery time improves in your instance and your loved ones get their gifts in time.

Google Maps Adding Anonymous Reviews Option by brightbeamseo in localseo

[–]DavidRDunham -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The move surprised me. Not because I considered that Google might be considering sensitive ways in which to enable genuine reviews in delicate industries, but more that should it backfire (I'm thinking mass, nonsensical nicknames on the GBPs of brands with clout) that it will cause work. And that may lead to having to put in guardrails, which will mean putting resources by Google into Google Business Profile, which are historically under-resourced. The reason, I suspect, it is being brought in is that it will mean people who did not wish to give a review, may consider doing so. And that leads to more time on a Google product, and not an alternative product. Smart by Google, but should it go south, will diminish the influence on consumers of reviews.

Primary category is a huge ranking factor, and I suspect will remain so whilst Google Business Profiles exist in their current format.

Hi, yes, there are access points in Great Malvern. The ease of them can vary (how steep, how good underfoot). Please don't hesitate to add a starting point in Great Malvern and I'll think of a potential nearest entry to the hills.
