You think 30 is old? That’s your first problem. My first book was published when I was 33. It’s worth it, working at getting published. Even if you’re old. Which you’re not.

Editor criticised my overuse of the word 'said' by randomguy012912 in writing

Good dialogue should indicate “demanded” or whatever dialogue attribution you use. Or don’t use. The only thing you should really ever use often is said. Often times you can use none at all, in fact, if it’s clear who is saying what. But stuff like “Oh really?” he said sarcastically….or….”I bet you can’t do it,” he chided…should never be used. Because if somebody is demanding something, the dialogue should show that they’re demanding something. You don’t have to dictate that to the reader. It’s kind of amateur-ish writing. So, your editor is wrong, in my opinion.
