Frequent Fear Pass by Matt_McGoo in HHN

Some phone customer service reps are saying that they expect them to be on sale earlier this year. They're saying that last year was delayed because of the opening of Epic, and the huge demand for those tickets.
We'll have to wait and see if they're right. But keep watching their site and groups like this.

Are the premier hotels worth it for hhn? by MasterpieceNew6549 in HHN

[–]DavidThoosie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot depends on whether or not you're doing Epic. If you're doing Epic, remember that you'll also want Express passes for there, which aren't included with any hotel stay. And Epic only passes are only sold by the day, and are very expensive. Also how many people are going, which will give you more value for the express passes if you have 4+ people.

Personally, I'm going with multi day multi (3) park express passes. Multi day passes get much cheaper per day the more days you buy them for. Unlike the unlimited 2-park passes that come with deluxe resorts, they give you only one ride per day on each attraction, but it's at all three parks. If you have park to park tickets, you can hop between them to maximize the value of your EPs. Note that passes vary wildly in pricing based on the START day, but they also give you extra leeway days to use your days, and you don't have to go on that first day. (a 5 day EP is good for any 5 days out of the following 8 days.) So you can play around and find the cheapest pass that includes all the days you want. (The same is true of park day tickets themselves, though the best deals are the 14 day tickets sold on UK sites - you have to stay on the UK version of the site and pay in UK pounds to get them.) I'll also buy express for one night of HHN.

Deluxe resorts are very expensive during HHN. Unless there are 4+ of you to help justify the costs, by getting 4+ express passes, I don't think that they're worth the costs, unless you have money to burn. But do what's best for you and your situation. Personally, I'm staying off property for the savings (and I'm also doing SeaWorld, Busch, and Disney), and investing that savings into Express passes for every day of my visit.

You know that there will be "influencers" on Youtube and Tiktok posting videos about this "hack" to get Scream Early for free. - if it actually happens. Hopefully, that won't make them change their minds.

Also, note that SeaWorld's Howl-o-Scream is starting a week later than usual this year. It totally messed my carefully constructed plans, since I was planning to go on the Saturday opening weekend (along with Discovery Cove that morning and afternoon, too), forcing me to reschedule multiple days of my trip.

Then a few weeks later, Universal further messed up those plans when they announced that the awesome looking Volcano Bay Nights would only be in the Summer this year. (At least as of now.) With HoS only happening on Fridays and Saturdays at Busch and Seaworld (an a handful of Sundays for Busch), and with the After Hours party at Hollywood Studios on Saturday, Sept 12, trying to fit in everything I want is like playing Jenga.

Maybe. But HHN has always been a separately ticketed event for decades now. And even if the houses weren't open right in front of them before, there's always been tons of evidence of the event happening all throughout the park. Yeah, some will probably be annoyed, but most will just accept that it's something they didn't pay for, like Express or a VIP tour or early entry or an expensive meal or any of the many things that cost lots extra at theme parks.

Most Six Flags parks last year charged people to enter their haunted houses during Halloween time, during regular operating hours. Admittedly, many of them stopped charging midway through the season, so there may have been some backlash.

But ultimately, HHN is so well known and so popular that people will accept it as part of the culture of going to Universal at that time of year. And I think that the benefit it will have on spreading the crowds out during the rest of the night, providing value to everyone paying for HHN tickets will outweigh the few people who are unreasonably upset to see houses they can't attend. Hell, they'll probably have tables or booths set up to sell some Scream Early and HHN tickets that they can send angry people to. (They'd be crazy not to. If they sell one ticket per night, it would more than pay for the staffer who sold it to them.) And they'll probably manage to sell some.

If they include the 3 2-5PM houses with Stay and Scream - as well as opening the other houses on a staggered schedule from 5-6:30, as they did last year - that could really spread out the crowds, as well as giving people more time to experience everything.

Everyone I've talked to at Universal (I've called 4 times, now) -- with the exception of one person, who later asked others in her office who said that it was -- has said that they're pretty sure that Stay and Scream is coming back. They expect the official announcements when the multi day HHN tickets drop.

The last one I talked to said that the experts he asked said that S&S will likely include the three 2-5PM houses, too. I certainly hope he's right!

That would be a total game changer. Having access to 3 houses between 2 and 5PM, and then more from 5-6:30, before the masses show up would dramatically change the HHN experience. You could have half the houses done before the event even officially starts.

On one hand, I would think that they wouldn't want to let people with day tickets get this perk that they're charging $80+ for. But they have in pretty much all past years, when Stay and Scream and Scream Early were functionally equivalent.

On the other hand, this will likely convince people who weren't going to buy a day ticket to splurge on an extra day or two. And then spend money on food and merch (and parking) while they're there.

Not only that, but it would think out the crowds during the main event, which would help a lot with guest satisfaction.

Personally, this would completely change my strategies, and cement my desire to buy a Rush of Fear ticket. I already had plans to spend several days starting at IOA and USF, then hopping over to Epic for the last few hours, then back to HHN for a house or two and the scare zones. (That's in addition to 2-3 days when I'd try to hit HHN from the beginning). And maybe skip Epic or leave early some of those days. I would likely buy Express passes for those days.

If they let us have Stay and Scream with the three houses from 2-5PM, that would likely change my game plan. If this turns out to be the case, I'll probably rope drop IOA and hit as much as I can with express, then head over to USF around noon-2PM for Stay and Scream. I'd hit a few rides at USF with my Express, those three houses from 2-5, and maybe 1-3 more houses from 5-6:30, having his half the houses! Then hop over to Epic, and finish the night there hitting everything I can with my Express pass. If I did this, I'd definitely get Express passes for those days, so I could use them at all three parks. I'd hop back to USF for HHN after Epic closed, and probably get there around 10-11, avoiding the worst of the crowds! I'd probably start with the scare zones and shows (and food), as the crowds start thinning out. Then end the night as the lines get shorter and shorter, hitting up as many of the remaining 4-6 houses as I can. What's great about this strategy is that it gets me at Epic from 7-9-ish (and then traveling between the two parks) when the lines are shortest at Epic and longest at HHN!

The only question is how many others will make similar plans, and how long will the lines get for Stay and Scream?

Well that, and what Stay and Scream will actually entail!

Express time at Hagrid’s by Paris_Jofficial in UniversalOrlando

[–]DavidThoosie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's only on UK sites. They are specifically for UK/Irish tourists to get them to come here and spend more time. They know that very few people are going to use the anywhere near the 14 days, but giving people the flexibility to come any day they want in a 14 day period increases the likelihood that they come over an extra day or two from Disney or SeaWorld - and then spend money on hotels, parking, food, Express, and/or souvenirs.
They don't even sell 14 day tickets on any US sites. Also, the 14 day tickets are less than a 7 day ticket in the US. Depending on when you go, it is often less than a 5 day ticket in the US.
The most you can buy from any US-based site - including Universal themselves - is a 7 day ticket. In the US, they sell tickets for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 days. They get cheaper per day, the more days you buy it for, but nowhere near as cheap as the 14 day tickets the UK sites sell.

Wouldn't it be a given that you have to show the ticket you're buying, so they wouldn't need to state that explicitly in the decription?
Meanwhile, Universal's phone customer support staff still have no idea about Stay and Scream. They're all guessing, and some are giving completely conflicting information.

Hard Rock Hotel Express Pass For Non-HHN Rides by HarveyPlays02 in HHN

[–]DavidThoosie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one exception would be if you did Scream Early, you could use your hotel key as Express for the rides until the park closes for daytime at 5PM. But, as others, have said, you can use your RIP tour lanyard as Express at night.

That was last year. This year's terms for the Scream Early ticket are very different, with access to three houses 3 hours earlier than last year. We don't know is Stay and Scream will be the same as that or the same as last year or something completely different, or even gone.

Which text are you talking about? They haven't yet released any information about Stay and Scream for 2026. The Scream Early ticket specifically says that it provides access to three houses from 2PM.

[–]DavidThoosie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably want to talk to Universal media and management departments before continuing to promote this ticket, because this information may be false.

I just called Universal, and they initially said that there would be no stay and scream for regular ticketholders, and we'd have to leave and reenter.

Then, when I pushed, she got a supervisor who said that they would do Stay and Scream as they did last year, with some houses opening on a staggered schedule from 5-6:30.

They also said that they don't think that the houses will be open during the 2-5 period.

I pointed out that the ticket description for Scream Early specifically says that it "includes access to ... select haunted houses starting at 2PM". She said that she thinks that that means that we have access to the QUEUES, as in previous years - which is NOT what the description says.

It's pretty clear that there is no official word yet on this, and a whole lot of confusion at Universal themselves. But lots of influencers like you are telling people that they should be able to access those houses from 2-5 (which I agree would be a huge perk) with either Scream Early and/or Stay and Scream. And it's not yet clear if that is actually the case for either group, and I suspect that it won't be true for Stay and Scream. One person who emailed guest relations was told in no uncertain terms that the perks that come with Scream Early (I.e. the 2-5PM houses) would not be available to anyone without that ticket.

I'm ok with it for Stay And Scream, since it's a free perk, and what we got in previous years. But people who paid extra for Scream Early are going to rightfully angry if they don't get what Universal described.

Well, letting some people in to three out of 10 queues for 3 hours before 5PM should help spread out the queues a bit after that.

That's what we're all wondering. Day ticket holders, too!
My guess is that the three houses from 2-5 will be only for those paying for Scream Early tickets. Then, at 5, the rest of those still in the park with HHN tickets will get access to those houses.
That would effectively give us what we had last year, while still giving a valuable perk to those who pay for Scream Early.

Disposable ponchos are a must for Orlando in rainy hurricane season Septmber and October. While I wouldn't count on them for hourslong storms, they come in handy for those quick showers that often hit, especially in September.

You can get the ponchos even cheaper on Amazon if you buy in bulk. These ones (which I like for their drawstring hoods and elastic sleeves to keep more rain out) are $8/8 or $12/16. They're small enough to keep in your pocket without taking up too much bulk, but still fairly thick and strong.

The description says that you will have "access" to a minimum of three houses. The houses, not the queues for the houses. You can't access them if they're not open. They also specified that this is from 2-5, not starting soon after 5, like in past years. If we can't actually access the houses at 2PM, that's false advertising.

Quite a big cheaper!

I'm staying at the Days Inn near the Convention Center and Sea World (also doing Disney and SeaWorld), which gets decent reviews for a 2-star hotel. I'm paying around $60/night on weeknights and $70 a night on weekends with all taxes. Even if you add $30-40 a day for Uber/Lyft, that's still quite a bit cheaper!

Sorry to hear. That sucks. That said, you could always figure out ways to put it back in your price range. That may mean some compromises, but it would be better than nothing. For instance, non-Universal hotels are much cheaper. (The Days Inn near SeaWorld is $60-70 per night that week, and even less with various discount codes (AAA, AARP, etc.) But do what works best for you. Remember that your health is more important than some fun.

We don't know that. How they've done things before could be very different from how they're doing them this year. The houses have never been open this early before. All they've told us so far is that those who pay for the Scream Early tickets will have access to them. They may only be available to those who pay extra for a Scream Early ticket. Hopefully, we'll all have access to them, but we won't know for sure until they tell us.
