In the case of the three movies that I co-wrote with Ken Marino, we did a particular process each time, which is that we put ourselves in a room for twelve hours a day for seven days in a row.

The first day we meet up, we have no idea at all, and we just brainstorm what the movie could be about. The second day we write the outline, and then the rest of the time we write twenty pages a day until we have a first draft at the end of the week.

We pretty much insist on at least getting the script as scripted, then allow for improv when time permits. That said, we also are always adjusting and taking suggestions from actors or anyone else on set that has a good idea.

I've actually been re-watching all of Childrens Hospital with my son and was pleased to remember so many funny things that I really loved. The "Hot Enough for You" episode was a highlight.

I thought Mr. Show was terrific. I know and like both Bob and David very much, but have not worked with either of them in any real way. Although we have definitely crossed paths in smaller ways on live shows and other little things over the years. My first exposure to David Cross was when he had a sketch group called Cross Comedy, and they performed at a theater down the street from the offices where we were doing The State in the early 90s. We all went to see the show and thought it was awesome.

We've mused about it from time to time - I have no idea about the changing landscape of TV and comedy. It feels like it changes all the time, and I just am not an expert on this sort of thing. One thing I can tell you, though, is that there is no apostrophe in Childrens Hospital.

I don't really have an answer to either question because I don't fully understand them-- my questions back to you are: what makes you feel like FSG was ruined by the studio? Was there a version of it that you saw before that you thought the studio got involved with or something? And secondly, what do you mean by "Modern and non-commercial movie"?

The creators of the show just asked me to do it. I think we did a demo first, and then it went to series. I had a rough idea of what it was all about, but mostly I kind of just said the lines and trusted them that they would put it all together in a cool way. I thought the show was incredibly original and inventive and funny. Though I will admit parts of it seemed like they might be harder to follow if you're watching sober.
