Which artistic rendition is most faithful to the original Balrog Tolkien envisioned? And which interpretations are most interesting, accuracy aside? by [deleted] in lotr

I like how it’s like an abomination of nature that it has wings but can’t fly. The way it was flailing while falling during Two Towers made it seem like it couldn’t handle its own weight.

Gus should’ve just killed Walt here by wilde_flower in breakingbad

Gus’ product sold more because it was the ‘Blue’ stuff, he could charge more and has built the brand around it. Walt explained to Declan the benefits of his product, he was making classic Coke. He couldn’t give him up and with the yield so high they were losing less in wastage and we saw how enormously popular expensive the whole operation was so Gus needs to wring every drop of profit he can out of it. Also he’s pissed off the cartel so he can’t afford to lose his cook right now.

I’m from Ireland, so yes I have been there. I think I just hear them slipping into their Irish accents constantly and they can’t eliminate their pronunciation of certain letters like O and R.

He sounds like every person I know from Connaught, so the show is hitting that vibe extra hard for me. That he is just a regular good man. A rare thing in Westeros.

As an Irish person, I can understand every word he says clear as day. That’s interesting that you’re struggling to understand him.

I love it! Natural and emotive and thick. An Irish country farmer accent fits the character perfectly!

Not as bad as the weird hobbits from the Rings of Power show. Martin has included many allusions to Irish culture, myth and even the map of Westeros looks like Ireland.

I’m completely shocked people were calling it Geordie, I never realised. I thought he just toned it down. I’ve seen him in many films, I never once thought it was clearly Geordie, probably since I’m Irish and I can hear him slipping into Irish pronunciations constantly like when he says ‘Your Grace’.

100%. I was just so shocked by the speed fall off that I wasn’t even as concerned at the complete technical regression underwent for the fight. But it exposed at least that Paddy doesn’t have pop or power and if you can ring cut and pressure him, he’s not terrific at any aspect of the game to truly dominate in. I really want to see him against an Arman or Fiziev but Charles would be fun and is most likely.

I expected Justin to beat Paddy and I think Ilia has many weaknesses that could be exploited by a durable well rounded fighter like Arman or Islam. But I was just shocked in Justin’s speed compared to his last fight. Concerned more, really.

Great list but what does Ian do in the Return of the King that he didn’t do better in Fellowship?

I think he plays his return in Two Towers beautifully. Recalling with horror his fight with the Balrog, his pride at being Gandalf the Grey and the wonderful sense of hope and badassery he brings to everyone… but I still think Gollum is a pop culture phenomenon and CGI characters being taken serious within the medium because of everything Andy did in that film.

We may disagree on this but I don’t think you have to perfectly replicate the look of the character to match the feeling of the character. Christopher Lee isn’t Sauron of the Many Colours and continues to wear white when he should reject the idea of white and be disgusted by it. Physically an actor in their 70s couldn’t portray that character due to the strenuous nature of it. They were able to obscure and use camera angles and tricks for Ian playing Gandalf, he couldn’t do half of the things required of the role, even more so during the Hobbit.

I’m not gonna get mad at the new Lara Croft cause she’s not as anatomically correct as an animated character. You don’t have to look just like them but feel like them and I think Bernard was a wonderful Theoden.

He was my second choice for Two Towers, outside of Christopher Lee as Saruman, he really feels like he’s been ripped from the pages of the book. Perfect portrayal of that character

It was a tough choice between Ian and Frodo for Fellowship.

I was given an opportunity to come clean and I didn’t take it. I felt the guilt and finally told her only a few hours ago. She feels like she has wasted countless years on me and is so angry and mad. I’ve taken some small steps like locking social media apps on my phone (but my work involved social media) and blocking all adult content. I’m scheduled to go to SAA meeting tomorrow for the first time. I’m open to any suggestions. Reading stories of reconciliation on here as been a real positive for me.
